    MARINA (and The Diamonds)

Gold is probably one of the worst songs in Marina's catalogue, and it's not because of its rather strange but a grower material sound -- it's a story about a millionairess singing about how she doesn't want more money but keeps having it anyway and her privilege of "freedom" LOL.

After ADIAML was out I'm kinda embarrassed to think that I had used to enjoy Superstar, lol... Still it could've been an amazing song if not so polished.

    Kate Bush

Does anyone happen to know if there exists an edit of The Sensual World instrumental with the lyrics of Flower of the Mountain? I wonder how this would have sounded had Bush got permission to use the original words from Ulysses! Have a great day all

    MARINA (and The Diamonds)

The point is she no longer wants to be an *artist*. She gave up on it at the time everyone, like the British public and critics as well, put shit on Electra Heart, her biggest and most challenging project yet. At the time she started up, she was broke, lonely, depressed, without friends and with familly issues. This all has changed. She is now a millionaire, she has friends, she is happy, what could she write about? She's not the same type of person as Lana is, perhaps because Lana always looks for other men who inspire her (and often mistreat her too, probably). Marina tried to redeem herself with FROOT and critics did enjoy the album. And this was supposed to be the final record. I don't know honestly if her hiatus decision was made just before the tour ended or it was planned all along. We know the tour was exhausting and she had to perform despite her father's poor health et cetera. The breakthrough that was abandoning the Diamonds was letting her go of the persona she had in order to have a more casual, relaxed relationship with her profession -- yes, more of a profession instead of art. This is a little bit sad from our viewpoint because we're probably not getting anything daring from her catalogue anymore except for silly-written woke-feminist-anthems that could've been easily written on Twitter but whatever. Sex Yeah or Teen Idle lyrics touch hearts because they are spoken from her own viewpoint, these were her own problems. What she writes now seems flat at times because she tries to be universal too much. It's the same rhethoric as "we all cry the same tears at night, life is strange oh oh". I just don't think she's necessarily a good *universal* lyricist, you know what I mean? Like St. Vincent was able to write The Melting of the Sun, but Man's World or Purge the Poison -- lyrically, because sonically they're very, very good and I am really happy fo that -- seem sillier. I want her to explore something that she has not explored about herself. This is what she needs, to be an explorer, actually interested in what's to find instead of digging the same hole again and again. Maybe something about sensuality, sexuality, something peaceful yet dreamy & beautiful, she could draw inspiration from Lana's Music to Watch Boys to or Bush's The Sensual World. Or even the other way round, more like Lily Allen, the sexual rebelion. Who knows? This is just something completely random that came into mind, and, duh, she's got lots of time and money to think about her new project to make it interesting. Anyway Scab & Plaster is probably never coming again because I cannot imagine her releasing a song about her hating her dad after a decade. Will she even do that compilation album? Right now even Marinazine is abandoned lol.

Literally there was not any beef between her and Lana, and with Lily it was like 12 years ago. The song she made about Ellie was never confirmed to be about her, although we know it's 99% true, she never admitted that so I don't know how one can find it nasty of hers. To say that she's problematic is rather weak seeing how both Charli and Lily were asking her to collab. I would just say she is not really into the music industry and is rather reserved. She's been bitchy only to those stupid Twitter haters and they deserved that. What else feuds are you talking about? "Nicki MInaj is unbearable" was iconic though.

The interludes used on Lonely Hearts Club Tour are so underrated. Should've been released digitally, really. Love the Power & Control one soooo much.

So she cancelled Primadonna but left How to Be a Heartbreaker on a tour dedicated to an album about a heartbreak? LOL

Isn't it Are You Satisfied though? It is kinda becoming her hit now. As far as I remember she mentioned bringing Hermit the Frog back so...

You can say whatever you wanna say about Electra Heart but we must all agree it has the best bridges in the whole of Marina's discography. 100%. Starring Role, Power & Control, Living Dead, The State of Dreaming, Valley of the Dolls, Sex Yeah... these tracks are bitches. Kurstin rock-inspired songs + Bubblegum Bitch, Nowel's excellent ballads, Howe's delicacy, an ideal mix. I just listened to it and everything still sounds fresh and so many things are happening in the background instrumental it's insane. Shit, I love this album so much and I hate the fact that so many people flatten it to Dr Luke's Primadonna, How to Be a Heartbreaker and Lies, among which only the latter aged rather poorly. Even without any concept it would've been an incredible record and yet, we got a complete concept album with lots of visuals, her whole new persona, and so many cultural references. Marina poured her whole heart into it and she'll never top this.

    MARINA (and The Diamonds)

Does he? I barely remember him ever talk about her. But I'm sure he's happy with the recognition that Bubblegum Bitch got lately. They both should be proud of this banger. I could imagine the label telling her to work with him again because of that, but since Marina boasts so much about her *creative freedom* that she takes no advantage of, well...

    MARINA (and The Diamonds)

Still, it was rather a stupid reason. Yes, her last name might've sounded serious, but she should've acknowledged there's lots of artists named Marina, let alone Marina Abramović. When it comes to all this wishful thinking, right at the moment I still hope for Electra Heart 10th anniversary revival, and then something art pop, dream pop, you name it, coming back to Kate Bush and Fiona Apple roots. Unfortunately now that she lives in LA, it's probably never gonna happen and something similar to Honeymoon is the most I can wish for. Trip hop would be nice too but I'm not sure if she's fond of that sound tbh.

    MARINA (and The Diamonds)

Well, I think that she deems her last name "too serious" and she doesn't like it that much. I don't know if it's somewhat related to her family relationships or whatever, but I still remember how she used to sign autographs even during EH era with "Marina Diamonds" instead of "Diamandis". That's also how she was credited on some early TFJ work.

The original version was better I think. Anyway they ruined Marina so w/e.

    AURORA

I like the album. Some songs are exceptional, but some feel to pop, for instance Giving in to the Love. The tracklist is rather messy though. As soon as I listened to The Innocent, it reminded me of Cure for Me, and I can see it is right after it on the vinyl track listing. But that one isn't perfect either, because I think Everything Matters suits the intro much better than Cure for Me. I'm confused lol.
  20. Wow, what a cute song! So enjoyable from the first listen. Reminds me of Chemtrails Over the Country Club, in a very good way.

We love how Electra Heart mixes sadness with happy dance beats. Ideal for teen mood swings and depression. The cultural reset the world slept on.

    MARINA (and The Diamonds)

I'm not trying to compare. Yes, FROOT is indeed better. What I meant is that I just remember how many people didn't like FROOT lyrics and said that she lowered her standards, which can be seen in I'm a Ruin (yeaaah uhhh uuu hyeah), Blue, or Forget [the songs often pointed out; some people don't like Savages too]. FROOT the song is a masterpiece though, lyrically + sonically, I think we can all agree on that.

    MARINA (and The Diamonds)

Just saying to remind you that her lyricism was criticised with each era. Even FROOT felt too straightforward compared to TFJ or EH. I just wish she wrote something as symbolic and beautiful as Rootless. That's what Free Woman could've been, but she ended up singing the most basic things in her whole discography, and the production doesn't help either. But I still try to enjoy it because of its important message. The chorus just feels so infantile. At least Happy Loner and Pink Convertible are quite good. It is just funny how y'all seem to say that she stopped writing good songs *after* FROOT. At least one can say that she improved her writing after L+F because ADIAML both lyricism and production feels more like the original Marina we have known than previously, and at least that's a good sign. This would've been a wonderful era but for those breakup ballads about that ginger shithead, that's it. If she needed more inspiration, she could've worked with other musicians just like she initially planned. Imagine a Florence, Lana, Charli, Banks, Tove Lo, Allie, Paloma Faith, or Lily Allen collab about problems that they all face because they're women. Well, at least we got something from Tove Lo on that remix but couldn't they both make a song together? It makes no sense lol.
