Thankfully everyone seems to have forgotten such a thing as About Love exists.

Tea. Listening to Living Dead is a spiritual experience.

Why do you keep complaining about this and that? And y'all really think that once she comes back to Marina and the diamonds then suddenly her music is gonna change for the better? The truth is she adjusted her sound to her fanbase which now mostly consists of teenage girls and pop-lenient gays and doesn't really seem in expanding it further. FROOT was made mostly to please Electra Heart British haters. We can only see what's gonna happen now that she left Atlantic but I really doubt she goes Kate Bush route again. And if she actually goes rock the way she hinted she wanted I'd enjoy something in the style of If I Can't Have Love I Want Power.

Remember what she fucking looked like when she was in a relationship with the Jack guy?
-
Yeah does anyone remember her plan to release an album full of outtakes? Does she?
-
That's not true, Marina was responsible for how Electra came to existence and it was all her idea not the label's. The only thing her label didn't allow her to was to focus (= have their funds) on two different eras at the time. It was Marina who wanted to work with Dr. Luke at the end of the day, it was her wanting to abandon her indie goals and seek fame because that's what she secretly craved and was disappointed with what a failure TFJ had been in the US. Of course, to hide all that, she wanted to create EH the popstar version as a mystery project similar to iamamiwhoami and release Die Life as an official sophomore MATD album; we know how it ended. The only thing she did not touch was the sound production but it's obvious a well known hit-maker hiring whom costs unfathomable amount of money wouldn't let her change anything if she and her team wanted a successful single. Marina does like to minimise her control over Electra Heart project because she felt she *failed* (it was bashed by critics and did not top charts), same way she did with releasing Shampain as a single and then hating the song as well as the exact same way with saying "omg you don't like Love + Fear? oh well I don't know I was insecure I didn't know what to do ummm it was my label's fault" but personally thinking it's her best album anyway Remember that it was Marina who invented homoerotic How to Be a Heartbreaker music video, it was also her who rejected her manager's idea to scrap Teen Idle, it was her who spent months reading Greek mythology and browsing American and Hollywood popculture references, no one in the label was that passionate about it, and so on... When Electra Heart was being finalised, no one in the world knew what Born to Die is, let alone how to capitalise sad tumblr girl image. It was always a mixture of the likes of Britney Spears -- heartbreak, sadness, innocence, Katy Perry -- fun, camp, parody, and Madonna -- hidden messages, philosophy, industry rebellion.

I dunno honestly how people perceive FROOT to be her best work, for me it's more like a "alright i'mma chill now" kinda album, somewhat a laid-back closing chapter.

Except for the fact she actually released way more than one album during her career. Considering Grimes being her own producer, I don't mind a longer break tbh.

Paradise - Post-Release Discussion Thread + Poll
vrtvie replied to HeartshapedChevrolet's topic in Post-Release Threads
Paradise should've been its own album. The fact people forget about those songs is ridiculous. -
It's insane how she makes up 95% of the song lyrics on her own and all those white straight men get credit for one word change.
-
Oh an artist from California who has already posted things related to her and now claims doesn't know her in order to ruin her career, yeah, sure Jan
-
TFJ deluxe deserved better, so did EH, ugh stanning her is so frustrating sometimes. I wonder what she's up to now...
-
Does she have rights to the masters though now that she's indie?
-
How can you not get tired of her?
-
I've done some research now and it seems that the lyrics to the track were posted on her Twitter in August 2010, so although she already must have had two projects in mind, it was only in February next year when she accepted her commercial landscape aka Dr Luke ambition (probably that's when she had to scrap EH as a seperate identity to Marina because her manager refused that), wrote Fear & Loathing and then merged them both. Well if one wants to count the song made half a year earlier, to each their own.
-
But it was produced by Kurstin who also produced Power & Control, Sex Yeah and Living Dead, so?
-
I'm 99% certain Starring Role was meant for Die Life, and even if some songs were made after EH idea was conceived, it does not make them necessarily Electra Heartish, see Bump in the Night which even includes her own name. I wonder how demo of Hypocrates might have sounded, I would love to hear Die Life version of it, which even if does not exist, would make sense seeing it is about her father (I do know that one can interpret it as about a romantic partner, but Marina knew exactly what she was doing with the title).
-
It still would have been wise to release Die Life EP and then Electra Heart album even with some Die Life songs. Die Life was about Marina, Electra Heart was about the society that Marina was a part of, after all.

Doubt Your Love is such a nice surprise. I like the melody.
-
I love your botox bitch I curtsey for youuuuu
-
To be honest, I would not be surprised if she minimised her interest in Kate Bush back then just to prove her uniqueness with The Family Jewels, we know how salty Marina used to be at the time. Like, c'mon, you release tracks like Obsessions, Rootless and Mowgli's Road and then you say your biggest inspiration is Britney Spears and Madonna? Also Guilty screams Fiona Apple's Criminal.
-
It is, and it is not single material. Feels just like a random track from the aforesaid album, which is simultaneously good and bad. Besides, I expected more Night Time My Time (song) vibes on Masochism that she seemed to promise all those years before. At least she's releasing something lol.

Feels like NTMT filler, seriously.

I did actually joke with my friend about her adding Maoam to M6 I really wonder what she has in store...
