I listened to Ultraviolence in full, then Born to Die/Paradise. I timed it out so that Blue Jeans was the last song I heard and Video Games was the first of 2020, which couldn't have been a more perfect choice. NFR! was kinda the first album I listened to this year (I listened to Black Sabbath earlier but kept falling asleep partway through so doesn't count )

Cinnamon Girl versus Happiness is a Butterfly
Anthem replied to Rorman Nockwell's topic in Lana Thoughts
Lots of breakdown about how "Happiness" is inferior, but not as much breakdown of why "Cinnamon" is better. ALSO Why was this not a poll?? Let the people speak! -
Totally agree on this. I was surprised that someone said it didn't look like California because as someone who has lived in LA for several years now, that looks so LA. You are totally right though, its definitely a more day-in-the-life version of it rather than how its usually depicted. Some of the shots in HIAB look like they were taken near my neighborhood to be honest, and they may very well have been since I live on the westside.

Got my Spotify Wrapped! Marina was my #2 artist, and Handmade Heaven was my #1 song of 2019! It was my #3 song for the "decade" (really just mid-2017 onward).

@@HoneymoonDaddy Off the top of my head, beyond what's already been posted: Sunset & Vine - its a pretty normal looking intersection though Mel's Dine In on Sunset - her Honeymoon billboard was here Chateau Marmont - really close to Mel's drive in. not sure if you can go inside if you aren't staying there, but you can see it from the same angle as the photo in the UV booklet from Sunset Blvd Korean Friendship Bell - you'll need a car, its a little far away, but its a cool place in its own right and is where the scene with the boys in MTWBT was filmed AND you can see the cranes/industrial area of the Long Beach Harbor which is where Fuck It, I Love You was filmed Malibu house - from HBTB, you will drive right by it if you drive to Malibu on PCH, but honestly it doesn't look at all like it did in the video. plz don't break into her house Santa Monica Pier - you can see the Ferris wheel in the UV trailer. in general, Santa Monica/Venice Beach will feel like you are walking through the West Coast video Bel Air - you can drive by and see the sign/entrance to go in. its a neighborhood so there's not really much to see Larchmont blvd - where the cover of LFA was shot Neptune's Net - its in Malibu, the place she referenced in The Greatest as "Dennis' last stop" Wilshire/Pico Blvd - pretty basic roads but she does reference them 101 Freeway in Hollywood - this is where she steps over in Doin' Time Amoeba Records - she's done a few shows here Bonus: Cha cha matcha , Alfred's Coffee in West Hollywood (she was papped there once just hours after I was there rip), your local spin studio I'll have to dig up where the intersection she filmed that one scene in Shades of Cool is, someone posted it not too long ago. The ONE thing @@HoneymoonDaddy and I search for ages for was where Honeymoon was filmed with the scene on the hill. We thought we found it but it wasn't quite it unless the area changed a lot since 2015. So if anyone knows where this is please let us know

I’ve been in a really bad place lately and honestly I just *get* Love + Fear now. It feels like a baptism in fresh, cold water. Electra Heart was great when I was a teen that found refuge in simmering on my emotions, but adult me who is desperate to feel happy and loved gravitates to Love + Fear

I've been in denial over this since probably Honeymoon. I think NFR! has been the tipping point. Two months after its release and I'm listening to.. Born to Die/Paradise The idea that she might have never really been the person I looked up to during the Born to Die/Paradise era is pretty crushing. But there's just no one else that comes anywhere close for me to get into? Maybe that's why I stay in denial. -
I binged ep 2-8 yesterday after giving up on a friend I was supposed to watch the season with ugh I love the 80s so I am probably biased but I like this season a lot. I definitely acknowledge that it is flawed and honestly the ghost counselors are so pointless and so one-track minded that they are annoying. But the season overall is so fun - though I do think they need a little more horror after the first few episodes for this to really be American Horror Story. Emma Roberts has won me over this season though and in ep 8 she looked so much like "Ride" Lana they also better show this music festival they've been hyping up. Also a small nitpick, but its 2019 can we really stop equating pentacles to Satan. Also the Richard Ramirez character in general is so annoying at this point, I'm ready for him to die for good.

I was listening to Lover (I know, rip) and noticed that False God has some of the industrial noises that are in the Cinnamon Girl outtro -
"The Pretty Ones" and "Wasting Time" I really love "After the Moment" too. I listened to her so much last fall when The Loneliest Girl came out, I need to get her back on my rotation!
-
I saw her open for Marina in LA and she won me over! I tried to listen to "Bitch" a long time ago but just couldn't get through it. But going back and listening now - I don't know how I didn't like it? The first like 20 seconds are heaven. I didn't know at the show that she was performing a bunch of new songs, but I remember a few that I really liked that aren't apparently released (one being "Rings A Bell" which is out now obviously). So I am so happy that I found a new artist and have something to look forward to from her! There was another song that really caught my ear, the lyric that stood out was "all I have is the music" - I think that one is still unreleased. It is very obvious seeing her live that she is incredibly talented

I personally don't visit Love + Fear that much these days, but a few thoughts: 1. Handmade Heaven alone is worth the whole album, at least for me. 2. Seeing her perform these songs live, I just got the vibe that she wrote these songs to herself and that the concepts in them are really important reminders to herself about how to think about life. It felt very personal watching her perform specifically the Love + Fear songs and that somehow made me at least better understand why she made an album like this, even if it didn't make me enjoy the songs more. So while I don't really listen to them, I support her making those songs because I think she made the music she needed for herself. I'll wait until the next album before I decide if she's lost me or not in terms of a hardcore fan.

I put out a demo trailer of a mini album I'm going to put out in a few weeks https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5_YyBXnM8b4 Really excited! Its not perfect but I really love it and learned so much about myself when making it.

Ok as someone who is so late right now because it took 30 fucking minutes to make one left turn by the Bowl, I actually appreciate it lmao -
"Echoes" is now officially my favorite song of all time all 23 minutes of it
-
I see this on Genuis but don't think I've seen it on here but she definitely says: "playing games of levitation" which kinda goes with this witch thing she has going. I think the video clips of her and her friends meditating on the rock will go with this song.
-
Probably too late now, but I’m here! I’m in one of the VIP boxes with my boyfriend
-
Omg I am going to see her tonight and I am so so so excited! I'm probably just going to sob the whole time. I've been a fan since like really late 2012 but she paid Atlanta dust since then on her tours (until last month) so I have not seen her yet in all my years of being a fan. I live in LA now and am excited to be seeing her at the Greek theatre! The setlist looks so promising too (except wtf how is "Teen Idle" a Love song lmao)

Oh interesting. I do know what you mean, except I always love "this type" of song on her album! They end up being my favorites. They are like her ultra sexy songs. I call them her "red songs" because they just give me a red-lounge-late-at-night vibe. I'd be down for a whole album of songs like this. -

Yep, this drives me so crazy! Reading this article about "Lust for Life": https://www.soundonsound.com/techniques/inside-track-lana-del-rey-lust-life "But she’s in the room for much of the process, and incredibly meticulous about vocal levels, for example. A lot of the vocal rides are dictated by her. She hears 0.2dB differences in volume, and when we got the first mastered songs back, she was really dismayed by how they sounded, and it turned out to be the dithering down from 24- to 16-bit that was bothering her! She has great ears and an impeccable sense of aesthetic." That is not someone who would just give Jack a free pass and stand for sloppy production. Jack has proven himself with other artists. For better or worse, its all intentional (or intentionally uncorrected).
