If “Lovespent” or “I’m Addicted” had been MDNA’s lead single—and she’d preformed it at the SuperBowl—she would’ve gotten a lot nicer reviews from the critics during that era and maybe Rebel Heart would’ve gotten the recognition it deserved. Living For Love was building up in the UK and Radio 1 flat out refused to put it on their playlist, even tho they’ve had Cher, Sia, David Guetta, Paul McCartney and other comparably aged singers on their playlists. I genuinely think Madonna shook something up behind scenes in the mid 2000s that pissed off a LOT of execs. Call me a conspiracy theorist, but it feels like someone has sabotaged every single one of her projects since. From the “Black Madonna” concept for Hard Candy to the Rebel Heart leaks to the early rumors of Madame X being a rap album to purposefully undermine her artistry.
