    Candy Necklace is freaking brilliant! The chorus is hella addictive and the piano gives off major haunted vibes. It's like watching someone perform a ritual and conjure something up. Gives me "Picnic on Hanging Rock" visuals.

    Didn't like it the first time but it's growing on me. I feel like it'll be much better in HQ too. It's a very, very dark song though. One of her darkest ever, if not darkest?

    100%. Taco Truck is an epic melody serve from A to Z.. And it's got like 5 different melodies going for it, all of them great.

    Peppers does have a weaker melody (it's more like talking then singing) and Fingertips is just meandering. But I wouldn't say it's her most "unmelodic" album. Paris, Texas, Grandfather, Ocean Boulevard, Let the Light, Taco Truck and even Sweet have beautiful melodies. Blue Banisters had weaker melodies but still had good reviews.

    Although, Born to Die had Video Games as Best Track and they still slammed it. And Lust for Life's Love was Best Track and they still gave it a 7.6. 

     

    It really depends on who the reviewer is and how much they like the record as a whole.

    okay you don't have to like them but you do need to respect them. She put her heart and soul into those lyrics, and they're probably her most personal lyrics to date. I just find it very disrespectful and insensitive that you are discrediting lyrics about su*cide, childhood trauma, etc. It's not easy to talk openly about those subjects, and calling those "some of her worst lyrics" is just so insulting.

    I write for a living, so I'll reserve my right to criticize someone's lyrics, thanks. Also, lyrics about suicide, childhood drama, etc, can be bad. 

     

    And, frankly, I don't think she's "put her heart and soul into them." More like came up with them on the spot and sang into a voice note, which is exactly what they sound like.

    God, I hope that's not the case, and that people won't perceive me that way. I've been the biggest fan since Blue Jeans dropped in 2012.

     

    I just have very high expectations of her (especially after NFR), and it pisses me off when she puts out a song that's beneath her capabilities.

     

    I love this board (super fun to be part of during a release) and definitely want to stay and contribute. So, I'll try and focus more on the positives (which there are a lot of). I'm mega happy with Taco Truck and the title track, so Fingertips is basically forgiven hehe.

    Well, it's good to have a dialogue and, again, glad it has its fans. But couldn't it have been a bonus track or sth? Wedged in the middle of the record like that, damn. I liked how Ultraviolence had a sequence of weaker cuts that were just plopped in there as bonus tracks. I wish LDR would go back to that, instead of treating some songs like the crowning jewels of a record.

     

    Also glad to see I'm not the only one disliking it.

    I'm glad it's found its audience. I just don't understand how that's possible. :facepalm:

     

    Also, when the album drops on digital, I will literally delete the song and pretend it never existed. I will think of the album more fondly that way.

    You're being a little harsh. With tracks like Ocean Boulevard, Paris, Texas, Taco Truck and Grandfather, this album is miles better than Blue Banisters. The title track alone is one of the best songs she's ever written and Taco Truck is simply epic. 

     

    I do agree with you that it doesn't hit the consistency in quality that Norman has throughout. it' also definitely has super weak spots (the interludes and Fingertips). But if you're going to compare it to lesser albums, at least compare it to Chemtrails and Honeymoon, not BB.

    Side B is definitely the weakest. They're literally my bottom 5. Super boring. If all of them were wiped out, I would be just as happy with the record. The only one I'd keep would be Kingstugi, but so darn slow and long.

    Just wanted to share an amazing video of Lana's covers on The Voice. Some of them are soo good! And it's great to see that Hope and Milllion Dollar Man as some of the lesser known songs (compared to, like, Young and Beautiful) have a massive audience.

     

    To stay on topic, I wonder which of the songs from the new album will find their way to this kind of stage. Maybe the title track?

    Paris texas is definitely the closest track to bartender she's ever made and probably ever will. And i should know, look at my user name lol. Only bartender is a little bit sadder/gloomier. Pt is more like past the point of caring, going from one place to another and not sticking around anywhere. Its an ode to self-sufficiency or autonomy. At least that's how i understood it.

    Just NOT being a mega depressive song would have been suffice :( Lana's always been a tad depressing. But this is next level. 

     

    Also, my fav Lana songs are Ride, Venice Bitch, West Coast, Blue Jeans, etc. So, it's not about trap beats, it's just about good song writing and a bit of an edge/pulse. Candy Necklace makes me want to cut my wrists or overdose. I love Lana but I love me more.

    surprised how Kintsugi climbed to #3 and how disappointed i am by Candy Necklace :deadbanana: i really like the prechorus of CN, but the chorus and that piano are so godawfully annoying smh. It's like Bartender on steroids, and not in a good way

    Honestly, she needs to STOP working with Drew altogether. Two albums is enough.

     

    And, genuinely, I wish she'd go back to working with Emil Heyne, Rick Nowels, etc.
