Just now, evalionisameme said:Peppers, American & whore and taco track don’t have standard melodies- they feature loud talking over samples, odd transitions and gaps where nothing is sung but you’d expect it to be.
SpoilerPeppers does have a weaker melody (it's more like talking then singing) and Fingertips is just meandering. But I wouldn't say it's her most "unmelodic" album. Paris, Texas, Grandfather, Ocean Boulevard, Let the Light, Taco Truck and even Sweet have beautiful melodies. Blue Banisters had weaker melodies but still had good reviews.

Here's hoping!
SpoilerAlthough, Born to Die had Video Games as Best Track and they still slammed it. And Lust for Life's Love was Best Track and they still gave it a 7.6.
It really depends on who the reviewer is and how much they like the record as a whole.

3 minutes ago, Blossom said:okay you don't have to like them but you do need to respect them. She put her heart and soul into those lyrics, and they're probably her most personal lyrics to date. I just find it very disrespectful and insensitive that you are discrediting lyrics about su*cide, childhood trauma, etc. It's not easy to talk openly about those subjects, and calling those "some of her worst lyrics" is just so insulting.
SpoilerI write for a living, so I'll reserve my right to criticize someone's lyrics, thanks. Also, lyrics about suicide, childhood drama, etc, can be bad.
And, frankly, I don't think she's "put her heart and soul into them." More like came up with them on the spot and sang into a voice note, which is exactly what they sound like.

6 minutes ago, yourolllikethunder said:lol @ the pitchfork prediction being so sadly true. you know they’ll hit her with a 7 or it will be BNM, really no other option in their ‘let’s rate Lana’ playbook
I think Pitchfork will give her a 7.5 or something along those lines.

God, I hope that's not the case, and that people won't perceive me that way. I've been the biggest fan since Blue Jeans dropped in 2012.
I just have very high expectations of her (especially after NFR), and it pisses me off when she puts out a song that's beneath her capabilities.
I love this board (super fun to be part of during a release) and definitely want to stay and contribute. So, I'll try and focus more on the positives (which there are a lot of). I'm mega happy with Taco Truck and the title track, so Fingertips is basically forgiven hehe.

2 minutes ago, Blossom said:Here are the lyrics! Let me know if u need me to explain them to you <3
Fingertips
(Verse 1)
When I look back, tracing fingertips over plastic bags
Thinking I wish I could extrapolate some small intention
Or maybe just get your attention for a minute or two?
(Verse 2)
Will I die?
Or will I get to that ten year mark
Where I beat the extinction of telomeres?
And if I do, will you be there with me? Father, sister, brother?
(Verse 3)
Charlie, stop smoking
Caroline, will you be with me?
Will the baby be alright?
Will I have one of mine?
Can I handle it?
Even if I do
They said that my mind, it's not fit
Or so they said, to carry a child
I guess I’ll be fine
(Verse 4)
It wasn’t my idea, the cocktail of things that twist neurons inside
But without them I’d die
They say there’s irony in the music
It’s a tragedy, I see nothing Greek in it
Give me a mausoleum in Rhode Island with dad, grandma, grandpa, and Dave
Who hung himself real high in the National Park sky
It’s a shame, and I’m crying right now to get to you, save you
If I take my life, find your astral body
Put it into my arms, give you two seconds to cry
Take you home, I, I’ll give you a blanket
Your spirit can sit and watch TV by my side
(Verse 5)
Cause baby I went through a time when I felt you were doing it
I couldn’t handle it, I was in Monaco
I couldn’t hear what they said on the telephone
I had to sing for the prince in two hours
Sat in the shower, gave myself two seconds to cry
It’s a shame that we die
(Verse 6)
When I was fifteen, naked
Next door neighbors did a drive-by
Pulled me up by my waist, long hair to the beachside
I wanted to go out like you
Swim with the fishes that he caught on Rhode Island beaches
But sometimes it's just not your time
(Verse 7)
Caroline, what kind of mother was she to say I’d end up in institutions?
All I wanted to do was kiss Aaron Greene
And sit by the lake twisting lime into the drinks that they made
Have a babe at sixteen, the town I was wed in and die
(Verse 8)
Aaron ended up dead and not me
What the fuck’s wrong in your head
To send me away never to come back?
Exotic places and people don't take the place of being your child
I give myself two seconds to cry
Let it crash over me like the waves in the sea
Call me Aphrodite as they bow down to me
(Verse 9)
Sunbather, moon chaser, queen of empathy
I give myself two seconds to breathe
And go back to being a serene queen
I just needed two seconds to be me
SpoilerAny song that has the words "plastic" and "bag" in the lyrics is an instant skip in my book. Some of her worst lyrics.

Idk but there is one user called @Fingertips who won’t stop harassing people who dislike it and it’s pretty embarrassingSpoilerWell, it's good to have a dialogue and, again, glad it has its fans. But couldn't it have been a bonus track or sth? Wedged in the middle of the record like that, damn. I liked how Ultraviolence had a sequence of weaker cuts that were just plopped in there as bonus tracks. I wish LDR would go back to that, instead of treating some songs like the crowning jewels of a record.
Also glad to see I'm not the only one disliking it.

SpoilerI'm glad it's found its audience. I just don't understand how that's possible.
Also, when the album drops on digital, I will literally delete the song and pretend it never existed. I will think of the album more fondly that way.

1 minute ago, huxter said:In one of the songs she samples Venice Bitch and that brings lava of emotions from 2019. Proves how good Norman is and how hard is to reach that kind of quality.
This new album is just fusion of Chemtrails and Banisters... though three new singles are quite good, I expected much more!SpoilerYou're being a little harsh. With tracks like Ocean Boulevard, Paris, Texas, Taco Truck and Grandfather, this album is miles better than Blue Banisters. The title track alone is one of the best songs she's ever written and Taco Truck is simply epic.
I do agree with you that it doesn't hit the consistency in quality that Norman has throughout. it' also definitely has super weak spots (the interludes and Fingertips). But if you're going to compare it to lesser albums, at least compare it to Chemtrails and Honeymoon, not BB.

SpoilerThank you. It's literally a chore to listen to. Her worst since Coachella. Why is everyone raving about it?

Just wanted to share an amazing video of Lana's covers on The Voice. Some of them are soo good! And it's great to see that Hope and Milllion Dollar Man as some of the lesser known songs (compared to, like, Young and Beautiful) have a massive audience.
To stay on topic, I wonder which of the songs from the new album will find their way to this kind of stage. Maybe the title track?

My ranking at the moment (keep in mind it’s all very fluid):
1. Paris, Texas
2. Taco Truck x VB
3. A&W
4. Grandfather
5. Candy Necklace
6. Fingertips
7. Margaret
8. Jon Batiste Interlude
9. Peppers
10. Let The Light In
11. The Grants
12. Fishtail (this seems low for this track but I love it, ok?)
13. Kintsugi (see above)
14. Title track
15. Judah Smith Interlude
16. Sweet
It feels wrong to rank this album.
SpoilerI listened to PT in the car today with the sun shinning. It was perfect. It's just a great on-the-road song.

SpoilerParis texas is definitely the closest track to bartender she's ever made and probably ever will. And i should know, look at my user name lol. Only bartender is a little bit sadder/gloomier. Pt is more like past the point of caring, going from one place to another and not sticking around anywhere. Its an ode to self-sufficiency or autonomy. At least that's how i understood it.

I’d love visualizers for every song, just imagine the beach from the Neil photoshoot with Let The Light In
Personally, i want a dark sexy video for taco truck. A cross between the interview magazine shoot and tropico. Something slutty af

So, how many songs made everyone's top 10 LDR songs ever?
For me,
SpoilerTaco truck
Ocean Boulevard
that's a huge achievement
Also, these two are in top 25 for sure:SpoilerGrandfather,
Paris, Texas
anyone have a few right up there? -

SpoilerJust NOT being a mega depressive song would have been suffice Lana's always been a tad depressing. But this is next level.
Also, my fav Lana songs are Ride, Venice Bitch, West Coast, Blue Jeans, etc. So, it's not about trap beats, it's just about good song writing and a bit of an edge/pulse. Candy Necklace makes me want to cut my wrists or overdose. I love Lana but I love me more.

surprised how Kintsugi climbed to #3 and how disappointed i am by Candy Necklace i really like the prechorus of CN, but the chorus and that piano are so godawfully annoying smh. It's like Bartender on steroids, and not in a good way
Spoilerbartender is a gorgeous song lyrically and piano wise. I listened to Candy Necklace three times and have no fucking idea what it's supposed to be about.

3 minutes ago, Venice Peach said:I hope she keeps working with actual pianists in future albums. This is not a diss to Drew or Jack cause they did an amazing job but I missed actual compositions instead of just some accompanying chords (which also work sometimes of course)
SpoilerHonestly, she needs to STOP working with Drew altogether. Two albums is enough.
And, genuinely, I wish she'd go back to working with Emil Heyne, Rick Nowels, etc.

SpoilerIt's a very blah song imo. Very repetative, demo-ish, and you can barely hear John Baptiste. Like, THAT's the best the two of them could cook up together? I can only imagine how bad that song was that she cut out.

5 minutes ago, lanitataco said:grandfather should have been the opener
SpoilerI used to think that too. But then most other songs are sooo slow, Grandfather as number one would have made people think the album would be more upbeat. The Grants actually sets the tone pretty well.

Didn't like it the first time but it's growing on me. I feel like it'll be much better in HQ too. It's a very, very dark song though. One of her darkest ever, if not darkest?
