do you have anything positive to say on here ? :toofunny:

giving one of those people who exclusively complain about everything, why are you people even here :deadbanana:

Huh? Just because I say there are a few skips on a record, it doesn't mean I don't love them all. But a ranking has to be made somehow. Hence, going the way of skips!

The only albums I don''t listen to are Violet and BB. Huge fan of most of the others.

so i know i’m VERY excited for the album & it’s entire sound, how do you guys feel this will rank amongst your favorite pieces of work from Lana? i’m curious about the general consensus even though a majority of it we haven’t heard in full!

My rankings are mainly about the albums having the list skip tracks. Like, I love Born to Die's singles (they're some of her greatest ever), but I never listen to the whole album.

    1. NFR (love all tracks to pieces!)

    2. LUST FOR LIFE (like all except Coachella, which is one of her worst)

    3. OCEAN BOULEVARD (already dislike

    Spoiler

Fingertips and Judah Smith interlude, a lot)

    4. CHEMTRAILS OVER THE COUNTRY CLUB (For Free, Breaking Up Slowly and Yosemite are all skips imo, plus the album is too short)

5 HONEYMOON (Feak, Burnt Norton and Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood are skips, but there are also some songs that are slow for me...)

    6. BORN TO DIE (objectively a lesser album than Ultraviolence with even more skips - like most of the second half - but the singles are some of her greatest)

    7. ULTRAVIOLENCE (too front-loaded, and I don't like most of the songs in the second half, but the singles are so damn good)

    8. PARADISE (only listen to Cola, Ride, American, Gods and Monsters, and Burning Desire))

    9. BLUE BANISTERS (only like Wildfire, Thunder and Black Bathing Suit)

    10. VIOLET BENT BACKWARDS OVER THE GRASS (only liked Violet and Happy)

Mind of you with me just means remembering being with someone. I feel like taking mind of things is a very southern way of wording it, which is why many people may think it sounds off. It just means to have awareness of the present, or a memory.

take mind you don’t git lost now ya hear?

Very insightful. To a non-native Speaker. Thank ya.

the only thing is - if it's the only Southern bit on the record, it'a still a bit jarring. But okay wont nitpick

Probably been answered already because I’m 25 pages behind.. but I think (not 100% sure as I haven’t heard myself).. that the backing singers mess up on the first line and say “mind of you with me”.. which is what boz and kintsugi refer to, when kintsugi teased that, it was in response to either the first or last line of the entire record, so he’s referring to what the backing singers say in the opening line

    Spoiler

I was thinking about that... Grammatically, it's quite weird. "I'm gonna take mind of you with me." As a writer, it bugs me quite a lot. Another reason why I WOULDN'T open the record with that track. The "Three butterflies" line from Grandfather would have been sooo much better.

There is a clear difference between BB, NFR and pre-NFR piano imo… (NFR piano my fave). The difference is in the producers, Rick, Jack, and Drew all use different pianos

To me, only Sweet and Fingertips have BB style piano which makes sense because they were produced by Drew Erickson, but even The Grants sounds different to me, the piano is more soft and “heavenly”

Also Drew is a basic bitch on the piano, compared to Jack and Rick. It's a fact, kiss, kiss)

never got the chance to listen to kintsugi, but what i can say is that fingertips SLAPS and i don't get how people rank it lower on their list.

Because it's just a song she made up while driving and recorded on her iPhone? It's giving D for effort. Zero expectations from Kintsugi, too and hope she drops this "automatic singing" nonsense. Bring on the Jack Antonoff produced (proper) songs.

Actually The Grants does directly cover her family. She’s singing about her Uncle Dave who died while rock climbing the Rocky Mountains, she references him again in Fingertips. I think The Grants serve as a mission statement. Personally I think it would make a better album closer

    Spoiler

100%! Grandfather would have been her best opener since Born to Die.

I know what you're saying, but the point for Lana may not be radio play. I think she knows exactly what she's doing. She chose to not really promote BB and seemed to want those songs out for other reasons that didn't involve the charts. She's capable of taking her music and career wherever she wants it to go, it's her story, not Ben and Eds.

Agreed! All I'm saying, though, is that she could have just as easily released this track in April, and sth more commercial next week.

oh god forbid a woman have agency over her own creative work:usrsney:

ever head of the saying "it takes a village?" That's why artists have managers, pr agencies, etc - to pull them back to reality. Look, i'm not dissing the grants. But we all know it's more of a single number 5 (if a single at all), and not album realise time worthy. The point of a single in the first place was radio play, which the grants has no chance of getting.

    (LOL)

, and The greatest are the only tracks from the second half of their respective albums that have been released as singles. And she didn't even intend to release The greatest if I remember correctly, lmao!

I haven't listened to The Grants yetbut I knew that she wouldn't want to release any of the alleged bops (tracks 14-16). These tracks will find their audience anyway as long as they're as good as insiders have implied. Not to mention that casual listeners will be gagged and taken by surprise by the gradual sonic change (orchestral -> experimental/dark -> laid-back/loose -> fun/sexy) of the album. Thematically, The Grants makes a lot of sense as a single/final introductory track to the album's themes/thesis (and her label wouldn't let her release Kintsugi or Fingertips no matter how much she loves these very dense tracks).

I have to admit that I expected Grandfather please stand on the shoulders of my father while he's deep-sea fishing to be the final pre-release single. But the long-ass title and the unanimous raves by all of you who have already listened to it means that it has the potential to be generally successful when the album is released. I'm pretty sure that many people will be talking about it (the title alone is eye-catching to say the least, lol).

i get that she has an emotional connection to the song. But ffs, your album is coming in 2 weeks. Release a bop to get people talking. Then wait a few more weeks and do your sentimental shit. Her management is the issue, letting her do whatever she wants. That's why BB was, like, 6th on billboard. Hopefully ocean doesnt end even lower. The grants - as fine a song as it is - won't do much to get people, i.e. the general public, psyched for the record, that's for sure

White dress bores me tbh-it’s so damn slow.

Keep-WAH(despite it being somewhat generic), title track, Tulsa, Dark but just a game.

hey! go easy with the chemtrails slander. :) half of that album was perfection:

    wild at heart

    white dress

    chemtrails

    not all those who wonder

    dance till we die

    dark but just a game

The Grants having that long intro makes it non-single worthy to me. I feel like something from the second half of the album would have been a better choice. Lana hasn’t picked good singles lately(A&W being the exception), so not really that surprised

    Spoiler

Yeah, it al went downhill from Let Me Love You Like a Woman. That's when she lost her single-picking skills.

Grants as next single that’s cool. Gives another look into the core of the album I feel.  That said I would have preferred another single lol, we will take it though.

I still think the surprise is a doc/behind the scenes type deal or maybe a recorded performance as some have said. I really want a Lana doc though!

Ah, man, another piano ballad as a single? :(  But that screenshot doesn't prove it - here in the UAE, the only other track that's showing now is Judah Smith Interlude, all other tracks are Track 1, Track 3, etc. Yesterday, all of them were showing.

    It doesn't mean a thing.

hope it's not something tour related, like something like a tour but with a twist to it, just because i can't afford to go so it wouldn't matter to me:bebe:

it'll probably be a live version of Sweet and Ocean Boulevard and she'll drop some tour news. I'll wait till the 14th and stop speculating and hyping it up.
