Damn, thank you. I can assure you I know my angles first and foremost. But appreciate the compliment. Your username being centered around one of NFR’s best tracks is just as hot.

Now that I’ve listened to the Kali and Miley records, my excitement and appreciation for Lana’s artistry and overall existence skyrocketed even higher. I think it’s “easier” (for the lack of a better word) to make pop music that is genetically written in a way that the GP will resonate with and relate to - specially if it’s all laced with a production that captures all of the current trends (in Miley’s case). No disrespect to Kali or Miley as both albums are pretty good (Kali’s specially) but the fact that we’re about to get a 77 minutes abrasive, complex and dense body of work that will tackle pretty dark subjects and defiantly aim for different sonorities and genres all clashing together in the service of a pretty unique and singular vision and storytelling truly makes Lana stand out even more than usual. She’s truly on a lane of her own.

    Spoiler

Okay just heard the sample. It's giving Cinnamon Girl/Tulsa Jesus Freak auto-tune sexy slow-twerk vibes. Definitely Tik-Tok friendly. Not a single though.

Her voice in unbearable. It really sounds like she smokes 4 packs of cigarrettes/day.

    but, now talking about lana:

i’d die for her to release a bop as a single. Idk why, as much as I know that lana doesn’t care about the charts, I think that it would be funny for her to have like a smash hit

I agree! Her last bop in traditional terms were Doin' Time and Don't Call Me Angel - three years ago.

Maybe it'll be Peppers or Candy Necklace (if it's a bop).

I guarantee you guys that she'll drop an MV but only on the day of the release. Mark my words.

It's what that OB Instagram is for. It's what she mentioned in the interview with Billie ("just done the biggest shoot I was ever involved in"). And it's to generate buzz for the sake of album sales. The only question now is - what song will it be for?

    Spoiler

Based on the three butterflies sweater and necklace she's been donning lately, I reckon it'll be Grandfather. It also fits with the album theme (family). Plus it's just a great uplifting song, the likes of whicih she hasn't released since The greatest or maybe even Love.

@fl0r1dakil0s would this be a good ranking ? objectively speaking

    Spoiler

Looks great! From the stuff I've heard. The only thing I don't agree with is Ocean Blvd being that low. It should be in the top 3. Everybody knows it, t's a fact, kiss, kiss.

Judah Smith, based on the leak, is definitely giving bottom of the pile vibes. I'd rank Fingertips a bit lower myself (def above The Grants), but I know a lot of people love it so I don't mind.

Because I feel like she ought to be recognized for her talents among her peers and therefor I believe she should get rewarded for this album in some capacity.

So what if the album is more "low-key" or doesn't have any "Billboard 100" singles.. It's a good album, it's some of her best work, she ought to be recognized for said work.

I understand why you and some feel like she needs this validation. I'm sure herself would love it too.

But for me, she's already called "The Greatest American songwriter" by the likes of Bruce Springsteen, The Rolling Stone and even Taylor Swift among other peers, which is a lot more impressive than a fucking Grammy. She's proven herself with nearly 10 albums and over 100 songs, 15 of which have over 100,000 million views on YouTube and many have charted on the Billboard 100. What's more, she's among the top 10 most listened to women on Spotify from all the artists in the world. In my view, a Grammy would be like getting a passport after she's already "seen the world".

Three white butterflies to know you're near

I know they think that it took somebody else to make me beautiful, beautiful

As they intended me to be

    But they're wrong

I know they think that it took thousands of people to put me together again

    Like an experiment

Some big man behind the scenes sewing frankenstein black dreams into my songs (?)

    But they're wrong

God if you're near me send me three white butterflies or an owl to know you're listening

    Sitting while I’m drinking

Grandfather please stand over the shoulders of my father while he's deep sea fishing for sharks in the Pacific

Cause I’m good in spirit, warm-bodied

    ??? wrapped up in ???

    I’m folk I’m jazz I’m blue I’m green

    regrettably also a white woman

But I have good intentions even if I’m one of the last ones

If you don't believe me look at my poetry and my melodies

    feel it in your bones

I have good intentions even if I’m one of the last ones

Grandfather please stand over the shoulders of my father while he's deep sea fishing for all the things he's wishing

God if you're near me send me three white butterflies or a map to know you're fishing

    Impart on me your wisdom

It took somebody else to make me beautiful

    Wonderful

As they intended me to be

    But they were wrong

    Spoiler

I'm so in love with this song, you guys. It's Norman-level quality and could have easily fit between Mariner's, VB and FIILY. Fucking love Jack's production.

I can't wait to have it on my phone in good quality and literally overplay it till the point of knowing every little sound in it like I do with VB lmao.

I don't want to be delusional but I hope this album gets a grammy or even nominated for one. It's some of her best song writing (IMO) and I think it deserves to have some form of recognition for it.

Um, they gave Billie Eillish 200 award sand zero to Norman. The awards proved that year that it's one big popularity contest. Why would you care?

Also, the album seems more low-key than Born to Die or Lust for Life, and I don't imagine it will spawn any Billboard 100 singles. There's no Doin' Time or Love type of songs on it that we know of.

It's just not a Grammy-friendly product at all. Unless the put it in Alternative (which they should anyway), in which case she has a good shot at winning.

I mean it’s literally produced by Zach Dawes and has bass AND guitar in the production credits… i can’t imagine it being bad :trisha:

Oh shit, CN is produced by Zach Davis. Then it's bound to suck. #CrushedDreams. At least I know I should focus my energy on Taco.

So, did anything new leak? I was asleep for 8 hours.

    ROSEMEAD

    1. A&W

    2. Let The Light In

    3. The Grants

    4. Taco Truck x VB

    5. Grandfather please stand on the shoulders of my father while he's deep-sea fishing

    6. Fishtail

    7. Did you know that there's a tunnel under Ocean Blvd

    8. Kintsugi

    9. Candy Necklace

    10. Sweet

    11. Margaret

    12. Peppers

    13. Paris, Texas

    14. Fingertips

    (15. & 16. Judah Smith and Jon Batiste Interludes)

Not a fan of the interludes, Fingertips, Paris, Texas, Peppers, and Margaret, but praised the rest of the tracks and literally said that Kintsugi and Candy Necklace being in the middle of his ranking order doesn't mean anything at all, because he adores both songs and we have nothing to worry about in terms of their quality. He also really likes Sweet which he called "cute next to gorgeous".

    FLORIDAKILOS

    1. Fishtail

    2. Taco Truck x VB

    3. A&W

    4. Fingertips

    5. Paris, Texas

Not a fan of the interludes and Margaret (because of Jack's voice, lmao).

    BRIGHTSUN

    1. Kintsugi

    2. Let The Light In

    3. Margaret

    4. Taco Truck x VB

They consider this to be Lana's best album. Not a fan of Paris, Texas!

    KINTSUGI (no official ranking)

    1. Kintsugi (duh)

+ highlighted A&W, called Candy Necklace massive, thought Margaret is actually great, called Grandfather please stand on the shoulders of my father while he's deep-sea fishing excellent, praised Let The Light In and Taco Truck x VB's outro ("one for the books"), and generally raved about the tracks 8-16 sequence. The only tracks that he didn't like are the two interludes.

BOZ (no official ranking; an ATRL member tried to guess/predict BOZ's ranking order, and BOZ said that it's pretty close)

    1. Grandfather please stand on the shoulders of my father while he's deep-sea fishing

    2. A&W

Also praised The Grants, Let The Light In, Paris, Texas, and Fingertips. He really likes the Jon Batiste Interlude and has kinda warmed up to the Judah Smith Interlude (which he called eerie and psychotic). He also said that Did you know that there's a tunnel under Ocean Blvd is possibly a top 5 track on his ranking order. Not a fan of Margaret (he called the song "cute", but he doesn't like Jack's voice at all in general) and Kintsugi (he praised the lyrics, but found the track way too slow for his liking).

The rankings are all over the map, and this is the sign of a great album! I love the fact that Margaret is at the bottom of BOZ's ranking (and Rosemead doesn't like it either), while Kintsugi said that it's great and it's also made Brightsun's top 3. Ditto Paris, Texas (very high on BOZ and Floridakilos' ranking, very low on Rosemead and Brightsun's ranking) and even Kintsugi (#1 (!!!!) song for both Kintsugi and Brightsun, near the bottom of the ranking order for BOZ) and Fingertips (Rosemead's least liked song, while praised by BOZ and floridakilos). It really looks like there's something for everyone. The only tracks that haven't appeared on top 5s etc. seem to be Peppers, Sweet and the two interludes. I haven't listened to any of the leaks/snippets, but I adore all of your wildly diverse reactions to the tracks so far. I am so excited about the new album! :lange:

And based on floridakilos' tea regarding the fact that most insiders/leakers don't have Candy Necklace, this is definitely Black Bathing Suit redux (last-minute addition to the tracklist + similar spot on the tracklist (track 6 v. track 5! right after an interlude!) + similar length (5:14 v. 5:18)! lol).

    THANKS SO MUCH!

For me, Rosemead's list prolly makes the most sense since he ranked Granfather and Taco super high along with Boulevard and AW, while he has Sweet and Fingertips low - just like me.

But one thing is for sure - Candy Necklace isn't anything spectacular by the looks of it.

despite the lack of music video she's released two singles, went to an award show, put up that petty billboard in tulsa, got featured in at least three magazines AND has a tour incoming. she's promoting it HARD

She just made the cover of The Rolling Stone magazine too. On a train so I cant link but there are pics on another thread. Def more promotion than Blue Banisters and Chemtrails! I think Interscope really want and another no. 1 and weren't happy with BB's 6th or whatever position.

  12. 1 minute ago, GeminiLanaFan said:

I think Margaret is the last song recorded but Candy Necklace was recorded a bit before that. Who knows, maybe it was considered to be scrapped at some point but finally made the tracklist (BoZ talked about a lot of dram behind the scenes)

Is there a snippet for Margaret? If not, it would explain why Margaret and Candy Necklace don’t have any, since they were added last and leakers might not have them.

I don't get these opposing insights. On the one hand, Candy Necklace is THE SONG, on the other, it was almost scrapped.

Personally, I don't think John Baptiste would have collaborated with LDR in the studio (on two tracks, no less) just for it to be ""almost scrapped." I don't know what the alleged drama was all about with this track, but I doubt that it ever came to that. My two cents.

It's bound to leak soon, given the number of songs that already leaked. Also, people are mentioning shipments arriving early?

I NEED to see what Candy Necklace sounds like. I DESPERATELY NEED Grandfather in good quality. And I'm DYING to hear Taco Truck and Peppers
