mercifully I haven’t listened to Grandfather yet - I couldn’t make it through the non-stop tags (how did y’all do that to yourselves?!)
It's just too darn good! But well done, you -

i enjoyed it but only listened once. It didn’t quite hit me except as an interesting and pleasant opener, but thematically sound given the religious themes. Looking forward to analysing further when I hear it in context with the album. Does anyone have the lyrics (sorry, hate being that person)?
grandfather would have been one of her best openings of all time. Right up there with Born to Die. Can't believe she didn't realise that herself. 😩 -

Puh-lease! Just because someone doesn't like the same song you like, it makes them an LDR nincompoop or a music culture fail? Get real.

But, I can understand how someone would be a little disappointed with Sweet, The Grants, Fingertips and and Judah Smith interlude.

No. Wait for the album. I kinda hate it that i listened to the song out of sequence. And the "rosemean exclusive baby" crap is annoying af.

I hope the other songs sound more "full" if you get me
SpoilerYep. Told ya Sweet was "meh," espeically given it's placement on the tracklist. Again, Grandfather is THAT track y'all have been waiting for. It's that Lana track that makes you smile and you think "genius.'

Just now, Crimson and Clover said:SpoilerIt sounds like a cross between Mariner's Apartment Complex and Happiness is a Butterfly but with more delicate piano and violins and more uplifting. It sounds like swimming in the ocean on a bright sunny day or surfing the waves. Super soothing while building up. It's the quintessential Lana track and one that could've easily sat among NFR's finest. Beats Ocean Boulevard and AW for me. Spoiler: it contains the lines "God, if you're near me, send me three white butterflies or an owl to know you're listening, sitting while I'm drinking. Grandfather, please stand on the shoulder of my father while he's deep sea fishing, the sharks in the Pacific..." Gorgeous!

I don't see how or why you'd think that. But to each their own. I'm glad AW's working for you to that extent.

Why not wait before making up your mind.
SpoilerAbsolutely! I mean, I'm cool with all Lana producers minus the Blue Banisters snooze fest folks.
About 9 more Jack songs to look forward to. Can someone post the production credits leak, please? That'll have me pumped up.

Boy, haha. But yeah, I'm aware.
Only defending my fav track of all time.

Just now, margaret soty said:What? Blasphemy! All three first songs on Norman are in my top 10 all-time, Venice Bitch being number one. I listened to that song on repeat for years lmao.

Just now, ChaoticLipster said:I’m doubtful this album will be better than Norman, I actually like a lot of BB and COCC. So might not be necessarily better than those even. I think what’s happened here is the albums been hyped up by two leakers with there own taste. I think it will divide fans more than what was anticipated. But I do think there is at least something for all of us on this album.
For me, it's already better than BB (although that's a low bar to reach). I didn't love a single song on that record..
The only tracks on Chemtrails that I really love to pieces are White Dress, Wild at Heart and Chemtrails, and I think Ocean Boulevard will have at least 3 that match it (so far, it's Ocean Boulevard and Father, Please Stand...) I don't remember the last time I listened to Honeymoon, so it'll probably be ranked higher than that album too.
I predict mid-tier Lana in my album ranking.

5 minutes ago, Sportscruiser said:So we’re comparing albums based on parallel track placements? What the heck.
SpoilerNo, I was comparing them in song quality. But basically, any song on Norman is better than any song on Ocean so far. Except maybe Grandfather... That track would have fit on Norman easily. If it had replaced Next Best American Record - damn, it would have been a 10/10 album instead of only 9.8 haha.
-
SpoilerDoes anyone else feel like "Father, stand on the shoulders..." would have made a far better, more iconic opening than The Grants?
I would have placed it as first, and closed the album with The Grants.
The Grants is just a bit slight and sedated for an opener imo.

24 minutes ago, Ultraviolencequeen said:Imagine never hearing a&w
So guys, do we think this will top NFR in critical acclaim so far?
SpoilerNo. The first half of the album is better than BB, maybe even Chemtrails, but it's nowhere near as gorgeous as Norman.
1. Norman >> The Grants
2. Mariner's > Ocean boulevard
3. Venice Bitch >>>>> Sweet
4. Fuck it I Love You > AW
5. Doin' Time >>> Juda Smith Interlude
7. Cinnamon Girl >>> John Baptiste Interlude
9. California >>>> Fingertips
Maybe 12. Father... is as good as The Greatest or just about the same level gorgeous. But then The Greatest has more energy and oopmh to it lyrically and with the chorus.
It definitely doesn't top Norman (so far). I'm yet to hear the second half properly without tags, but I don't think Peppers will come close to anything on the second half of Norman lol. It sounds like a moody trap song, definitely won't beat Hope, or Bartender.
Plus, Norman doesn't have random interludes. Honestly, what is the point of the John Baptiste interlude?! Just makes the album more long-winded. Hopefully, it's the leak quality that's messing with the track.
-
10 minutes ago, Fingertips said:Let me just keep it at this: you can barely hear anything on Peppers underneath that obnoxious and loud tag. How are you going to say that it's a better song than full, untagged, HQ music? Just because you can twerk to it? You sound ridiculous. At least wait until you hear the full song untagged
The tag itself is so crazy... Like, WHY on earth would you do that? So many freaks out there. Like, if you're gonna leak stuff, do not lay your stupidity all over it.

Can we talk about how Lana's choice of singles is not what it used to be?
She used to have a knack for knowing precisely what tracks would wow people as the single. Video Games, Ride, West Coast, High By the Beach, Love, Mariner's Apartment Complex...
Then, all of a sudden, we get Let Me Love You Like a Woman (one of her weakest, least memorable singles ever), followed by Blue Banisters and Arcadia in the same year...
After listening to Grandfather for the 50th time, I know it would ve been her strongest first single since Ride and West Coast. It's absolutely gorgeous, epic and thrilling. And it's so much more positive and radio-friendly than Ocean Boulevard, which - as good as it is - is a very depressing song. I would have shot a big Ride-style video for Grandfather, and it would have reached 100 million views within a few years - compared to Blue Banisters, Arcadia and Let Me Love you Like a Woman, which altogether have, what, 10 million views?
Hopefully, whatever she picks as the next single won't be something like Sweet or Fingertips, but I wouldn't put it past her at this point lmao. Anyone else feel the same?
