The vocals sound so different i dont think she has ever sounded like this, idk its different,,, also the song in general is so movie soundtrack core

    Spoiler

It's gorgeous! One of her most beautiful songs ever.

She almost sounds like a little boy singing in falsetto.

One of the best on the album for sure. So surprised by it.

taco truck x vb has me :rip:

these are my winners for anyone who gives a fuck:

taco truck x vb - this just has LA written all over it. it's like if silverlake/echo park had a theme song, stopping at the taco truck (which my favorite taco truck is actually in echo park and it's called TACO ZONE no joke it's by the safeway close to the dodger stadium check it out) then we drive down the 10 and end up in venice. it's INSANE. this is 10/10 my favorite song. there's something kind of sweet about her closing with an LA song. I think it alludes to her past and where she stays planted after singing about the midwest & paris, tx, alabama, rhode island, etc.

peppers - this mega bop is just so sultry and nonchalant. she's telling you like it is, no fucks given. I think it goes hand in hand with A&W tbh.. she always knows how to push the boundaries in every fuckn way possible and then you think about her capacity after singing some heavy shit like GRANDFATHER PLZ... testing + for COVID but whatever life is like this. forever listening to this song on high.

fishtail- This is an example of a song only LDR can make. holy fuck i'm so obsessed. it's so raw in its meaning and what she's singing about. like warnings of heartbreak and the outcome - which was obvious heartbreak & they wanted her sadder. the beat just flows so well with the lyrics.

a&w - we all know about this masterpiece. what gets me the most about this song is the juxtaposition of the confessionals of the first part compared of jimmy jimmy. it's like she told you the hard truth in a very gentle way about her love life is and then jimmy jimmy is when she lets it out and shows you what she really means.

fingertips- it's very personal. i'm pretty sure this is the most direct she's ever been about her life and what she's been through in her past with her family. this is so much insight and i'm still trying to process all of it. suddenly a lot of makes sense of why family means so much to her .

sweet - if you want some basic bitch go to the beverly center and find.

candy necklace - i know you'll be on my favorites too.

    that's it that's all

    Bro, spoilers!

  3. Preliminary song and album rating and ranking:

    Spoiler

    1. Taco Truck x VB (her best closing track of all time. I just wish we got the "Lanita" part for the second time; the Taco part should've been longer and VB trap should've been a separate song. But still fab!)

    2. Did You Know that there's a Tunnel Under Ocean Boulevard (top 10 ever material)

    3. Grandfather, Please Stand on my... (top 15 ever material)

    4. Paris, Texas (short but gorgeous and very different for her)

    5. Let the Light In (Simple, lush, beautiful)

    6. AW (unique)

    7. Sweet (I warmed up to this song, it's a perfect song for a Lana Del Rey musical if they ever make one)

    8. Kintsugi (I knew this would be better than Fingertips, with Jack behind it. The "automatic singing" wordiness actually works here. It's just a bit slow and long)

    9. Peppers (It's a bit bland and repetitive for me)

    10. The Grants (sweet but not much else to it. One of her lesser opening tracks)

    11. Fishtail (I don't imagine I'd listen to this song much)

    12. Judah Priest Interlude (fits well with the atmosphere, very dramatic, doesn't work outside of the context of the album)

    13. John Baptiste Interlude (same as above)

    14. Fingertips (I really wish she'd scrapped this song)

Candy Necklace and Margaret pending. These will really decide where the album fits as a whole.

    Album rating: 7.6

    Album ranking:

    1. NFR!

    2. Lust for Life

    3. Born to Die

    4. Ultraviolence

    5. Chemtrails Over the Country Club

    6. Did You Know that There's a Tunnel Under Ocean Boulevard

    7. Honeymoon

    8. Paradise

    9. Villet Bent Backwards Over the Grass

    10. Blue Banisters

Wait why does this leak of Fingertips sound way better… like it has actual production

    Spoiler

The reverb on her voice is so annoying, though. You hear the hissing sound every time she's about to open her mouth.

There's a number of her songs that have the most intense reverb like Tomorrow Never Came, Florida Kilos, Bartender, and I just wish the vocals were recorded clearly, like Norman's - which, to date, remains her song with the absolute clearest, purest vocals. Again, it's the difference between Jack and other producers who let her give into her worst tendencies.

i think if i HAD to pick one song off the album it would be grandfather... fingertips i am sorry!!!

    Spoiler

Ah, I knew Grandfather would find it's fan base!

I'm just so in love with Jack right now. To produce Grandfather, Paris, Texas and Let the Right - one of the greatest trios of her career. I hope they make 10 more albums together. Sure, it's not Summertime Sadness and it won't chart or whatever. But it's just so god-damn beautiful!

Erm no…it’s top 6 maybe. Let’s not over rate it after first listens

    Spoiler

Well, for me, it's definitely higher than Blue Banisters, Honeymoon, Violet Bent Backwards and Paradise. May work better than Chemtrails too.

I still need to listen to it in full (with Candy Necklace etc) to really be able to gauge. It has the potential to be a better overall experience than Ultra, which is incredible but only in the first half.

the taste, the flavor. such lovely and thoughtful insights! :oprah:

    Spoiler

Taco Truck made me cry, which hasn't happened since i heard Tomorrow Never Came.

I do agree that the first part should have been longer and we needed the "lanita" part at least one more time.

i wouldnt have minded if VB trap was a separate song altogether tbh. But regardless - her best closing track ever! Periodt

The tags on the newly leaked songs are even more obnoxious :hide: Not going to destroy my first listen with these.

Honestly, guys, i wish i hadnt listen to any leaks.

24th march will be ruined for me. Don't succumb to the urge. Listen to the album in full. I'm just thankful I still have about half the album to hear

    a lil theory

      Hide contents

it's pretty evident the album is going to be divided into sections from the tracks we know of... like Act 1 could consist of The Grants to A&W and Act 3 for sure would end with the last 3 tracks: Fishtail to Taco Track.

we won't know what each act/section or whatever you're gonna call it consist of which tracks but i feel like Act 1 is solid so far :oprah3:

Act 1 is pretty solid, indeed.

    Spoiler

Sweet has grown on me. It's like a little number from a Broadway musical.

But the last one (Side D) is the one I'm living for personally.

Also, somewhat unrelated: feel like Lana closes her albums with a song, and then the next album starts where that album finished. For example, Get Free moves onto Norman ("into the blue" as in "into the surf"), Sweet Carolina into the Grants (family into family), etc. If f Taco Track is an indication of her next album, then count me in all the way! A full album of latina trip hop vibes, please

sorry to argue bc i usually don’t post rebuttals and stuff on here, but we need to realize that experimentation is extremely individual and personal. of course, something like this might not be experimental to other artists, but to lana, it may be. this is something new to her. i think it’s already been established that this record will be more experimental compared to her previous works, she said it herself in the BBC interview- this album will be remembered as “weird”

I agree.. No need to apologise! <3

Summer Bummer, Brite Lites and Ridin don’t even sound alike imo so I think we really diverge on this one in the back somewhere (ha!)

    Spoiler

Haha! No worries, man. We don't have to agree always. That's the point of a forum.

Also, apologies if calling the discussion "embarrassing" offended anyone. Love ya all. :hoe:

p.s. Can't wait till the album comes out, we'll have so much to unpack!

    So you’re telling me

That we’re allegedly getting a surfy bop we’ve been dying for and now you’re bitching about it being conventional or experimental or not at all experimental?

The forum is so unhinged :crying5:

    Ffs. Nobody's "bitching" about anythin'.

We're simply discussing the track. And I think we're all pretty civilized about it.

I feel like some users are just looking for drama on here because they're bored.

It's a board for discussing music, and obviously, people will disagree at times., and it don't mean shit

I wasn’t correcting you, I was warning everybody my post contained Peppers spoilers :D

I got it in the meantime, haha. Thanks. Peppers spoilers:

    Spoiler

Respectfully disagree. To me, it sounds super similar to Brite Lights, Summer Bummer, Ridin',  and, like, a million of her unreleased tracks.

To clarify: this is not me dissing the track. I just think it's incorrect to call it experimental in any way. It really ain't.

But to each their own, handsome.
