  13. not this.. i'm not religious but i went with a friend to their church a few weeks ago and i was reminded of why i'm not religious.. they invited every woman in the church who has had an abortion to raise their hands and come to the front of the church so everyone could "pray for them" and they had them publicly ask for "forgiveness" for their "sin".. it's absolutely atrocious i felt so terrible for them.. i asked my friend if they do that a lot and he said they've prayed for someone to overcome their "homosexual tendencies" and that is why i am not religious bc wtf 😭 well officially, the supreme court is not meant to be political, it is meant to ensure equal justice under the law by ruling on the highest level regarding all constitutional disputes. the rulings, at least on paper, cannot be partisan and its rulings must be based on the law and the law only. now remember that's just what it's officially meant to be. in reality, it's political, always has been political, and always will be political, because it's america and the supreme court is always going to have a majority of justices on one side or the other with some sort of agenda. for example, the justices that president roosevelt appointed shared his view on on the expanding of federal power, "conveniently" lining up with his new deal regulatory reforms. and the justices that nixon appointed "conveniently" shared his "tough on crime" policy views. the supreme court has always been this way and it will always be this way because the polarized and partisan nature of our politics and society is ingrained into both americans and our laws/institutions. and the justices do not necessarily "govern"; they cannot write or pass laws. what they do is take the inalienable laws/rights we do have (in the constitution), and interpret and establish its applications in different situations, setting legal precedent going forward. Roe v. Wade was one of these legal precedents set forward long ago, and by overturning it, the court established that our constitution does not protect the legal right to an abortion. they aren't outlawing abortion which is a popular misconception, they're just saying the constitution doesn't protect it (which it does imo)
  14. 85% of americans believe abortion should be legal in at least some circumstances (the some generally means things like rape and incest), and about 65% of people believe abortion should be completely legal within the first trimester of a pregnancy.
  15. tbh i don't really hear cruel world, MPG, or FMWUTTT as angry, she just seems sort of like fed up about whatever she's singing about and the songs come off more as like ironic mocking (MPG and FMWUTTT) or sad (cruel world). songs in lana's released discography that lyrically come across as "angry" to me are dealer (she said in her insta live that she was "furious" in that song), cherry, high by the beach, 24, wait for life, i can fly, and thunder
  16. the overturning of Roe v. Wade doesn't necessarily mean that decisions like Obergefell (legal right to gay marriage) are in immediate danger bc the ruling explicitly regards abortion and doesn't set any sort of legal precedent. but what it definitely does do is give conservative states that are anti-LGBT the "confidence", so to say, to go even further regarding restrictions on the 14th amendment and it's guarantee of privacy and the things that fall under it such as gay marriage, abortion, birthright citizenship, etc. it's important to note though that Roe v. Wade was able to be overturned mainly due to a dispute regarding the due process clause of the 14th amendment, and if gay marriage/interracial marriage were to be overturned, it would have to be regarding the equal protections under the law clause of the 14th amendment which is not in dispute among the justices regardless, i'm genuinely shocked that the supreme court actually overturned Roe. it's fucked up and a huge step back for america.. justice alito is so dumb as well like he opens his opinion with, and i QUOTE, "for the first 185 years after the adoption of the constitution, each state was permitted to address this issue (abortion) in accordance with the VIEWS OF ITS CITIZENS". there is not ONE single state where more than 30% of its citizens support the overturning of Roe v Wade.. NOT ONE. the whole thing is absurd and disgusting i also want to say that the supreme court as a whole has been really fucked up this year and people haven't really been noticing. it didn't get much news coverage but this week they ruled that suspects who are not warned about their right to remain silent (Miranda rights) cannot sue a police officer for damages under federal civil rights law EVEN IF the evidence they say is used against them in court. that's a HUGE step back for americans and our rights against self-incrimination. not being able to sue police for violating the rights guaranteed to us under Miranda opens up a whole new can of worms and imo encourages police to be coercive in obtaining false statements and confessions. the supreme court has really been fucking up and setting us back in more ways than one. very disheartening day for this country
