Pawnshop Blues vs. Backfire.

Haven’t listened to Disco in such a long while and damn... it kinda does have a Nirvana feel to it, specially in the verses. I hope BB has this type of energy. Something kinda eerie, timeless.

Omg if she went blonde again, I’m gonna die. I’ve always been sour that her blonde Chemtrails aesthetic (from that specific hairstyle she’d always use to the Neil Krug photoshoot) was so profoundly under explored and under appreciated.

Honeymoon is the perfect example of a halfway point between intimacy and grandiosity. I love Chemtrails but I know I do because I love Lana first; it does feel like her laziest effort to date and it shows.

I know we must respect her process and artistic choices but I’ll riot if Thunder is turned into a piano ballad. That’s where I draw the line.

You never heard that from me. I love BB and specially WW but I’m not a fan of TB at all (even though I don’t hate it either) but honestly that’s not even relevant to the discussion - I only compared this to NFR and Folklore because all 3 projects share the exact same producer and it’s becoming crystal clear how generic his trademark production has become, to the point where it’s impossible not to trace parallels. Lana is going in a different direction with BB while Lorde is going for something more sparse and similar to other projects by other artists which I find a bit pitiful since what attracts me the most about her is how singular her previous two records are. I don’t want pop-driven bops or club bangers from Lorde; I do however expect some bite, sonically and specially lyrically. California has none for me and I think it’s valid for me to feel that way about her recent output. If you wanna look at my opinion as an exaggeration that’s fine by me but at the end of the day, it’s just my opinion.

What is this bootleg NFR/Folklore? Lorde is one of my main girls and I love her to death but this ain’t it. Lyrically it’s below everything she has ever done and musically this sounds tepid, boring and uneventful. The instrumentals are plain and unimaginative and go nowhere. Plus, they kick at such an odd time at the beginning of the song... it sounds like a huge NFR stan just decided to make a homemade song on some free trial website where you can make your own beats or something. I’ve never hated a Lorde song ever before but... damn. This might be the first one to do it. I blame Jack for all of this. Someone close his casket.

At this point I’m not gonna believe anyone or anything until it’s released. When Lana herself hasn’t made up her mind yet, why should Ben and/or Boz be heralded as reliable info? She does whatever the f she wants everytime.

This might actually be my favorite cover of hers, EVER. It even surpasses UV, HM UO cover and COCC alt cover. Truly a legendary singer-songwriter moment. I’m so excited for this record. I want more diversity than just a whole album made from piano ballads but if you think about it, she always comes up with a handful of tracks that take you by surprise every era... even COCC (probably her slowest album to date) had Tulsa Jesus Freak, Dark But Just a Game and the Dance Till We Die bridge. I fully trust her to incorporate different elements into her music... specially now that she’s not working with Jack. I can feel this music is gonna operate on a more cinematic, spacey level.

I bet they would say something similar re: Blonde or self titled Beyoncé, etc. It’s not a 100% surprise release per se but maybe she’ll just drop it digitally in the supposed date and get it over with.

This sounds nothing like MAC/Venice Bitch. Come on now. I love it. The more I listen to it, the more it sets me free and fills me up with glee. Such a joyful moment from her that makes total sense after Melodrama. I think the best is yet to come tho.

Probably the bridge... it’s 3 minutes into the song and there’s a minute and a half left. Sounds like a bridge to me - which is great. I want more of that Dance Till We Die bridge energy!

I regret not having joined during the NFR/Chemtrails eras but I’m here now. Specially pumped for WW but I have this weird feeling Text Book will be a blast.
