I know Charles well and I can tell she’s very effected by how much we don’t love In The City. I think she thought she’d have a little smash on her hands and is probs gonna do the whole “I don’t like that one anyway” thing a year down the line. 
 
I kind of wish she didn’t put it out because it just was such a mess even without the Sam feature (para MI)

i feel like the crash era had so much squandered potential... like it started out super high concept and interesting but then it just sorta stopped. i think charli got bored with it. shes not a conceptual musician shes a vibes musician

ughhh i’m so tired of this disingenuous argument, this conversation always comes up because charli struggles to be receptive to negative feedback and makes it everyone else’s problem. it has nothing to do with seeing her as a “vessel” or being “miserable” or whatever you’re talking about… i’ve been a fan for over a decade and i have enjoyed most of what she’s released, crash for example is completely generic and i love it. the vast majority of artists i listen to are not hyperpop, i’m capable of enjoying other music. in my opinion in the city is just not a good song;  the melody is boring, the writing is boring, it’s not good. it wouldn’t be any better if it were pcm. she’s got dozens of leaks with even weaker production that don’t even have lyrics, just 3 minutes of mumbling and nonsense and they still manage to be catchier than this. stop parrotting this point about how everyone hates anything that’s not beep bop boop when in reality it’s just because people think the music is bad. if you like the song then cool other people are entitled to disagree. moving on

charlene is mostly unproblematic and i have been quicker than most to excuse some of her recent transgressions but i do get quite annoyed when she goes off on social media about being disappointed by her fans, and this is not the first time. i feel like she really misinterprets our relationship; people engage with her artistry because they enjoy it but there is no obligation to blindly support everything she does... she is a massively influential artist and deserves all her flowers but when people critique her work and she takes it very personally and publicly pops off, to me it comes across as entitled. she's proud of the stuff she creates which is great, and people don't have the right to harass her or say nasty things but if people think she's releasing a flop song with a flop artist (and i do) they can say so. she's not shy about sharing her own opinions so i don't know why she thinks she can police anyone else's, provided they are reasonably respectful. sure i feel bad for sam if people are dragging them but like... don't make music for such a huge audience if you're not prepared to accept diverse reactions to it. i wasn't really even aware people were saying anything terrible until she posted that tik tok about it so someone correct me if i'm wrong, maybe she was totally in line to scold people for being super rude but that's not the impression i've gotten

Even without Sam, I HATE this. Like this might be my least favorite Charles song ever. It’s so bland, generic, predictable, dated and tacky. Sam honestly may elevate it because it goes nowhere. I honestly wish it stayed in the trash.
