I realised there's not a thread for this band who are one of my absolute favourites (and have just announced their fourth studio album "A LA SALA" releasing April 5th), so I'm making it! Khruangbin is a three-piece band from Texas, formed of Laura Lee on bass, Mark Speer on guitar, and Donald Johnson on drums. Taking influence from 1960's Thai funk - their name literally translates to "Engine Fly" in Thai - Khruangbin is steeped in the bass heavy, psychedelic sound of their inspiration, Tarantino soundtracks and surf-rock cool. My favourite album of theirs has to be Con Todo El Mundo, and my favourite songs are probably Maria Tambien and Rules though I can honestly say that they don't have a bad song in my book. Although their studio albums are gorgeous in and of themselves (and all recorded in a barn in Burton, TX btw) , the group really shines in their live performances. I've been lucky enough to see them twice last year and I hope to catch them again when they tour the new album this year. As an intro I can really recommend this live recording: And this is the gorgeous gorgeous music video for their newest single: Maybe there some other Khru fans here And for those who might not have heard of them before, I hope this post motivates you to check them out! I think they have a very unique sound, and I don't think there's another artist which puts me in such a good mood without fail every time I listen to them.

I mean is it any wonder she cares, the backlash she got from the music industry at the beginning of career clearly still weighs on her mind as she kept talking about it in last year’s interviews - even if the conversation around her has already shifted I can imagine how finally winning a Grammy could bring that final bit of closure, regardless of whether or not she thinks they’re a true measure of artistic merit at the present time.

yeah I couldn't articulate why but that's somehow the vibe I got from the video and her selfie too <3
-
so true it would be great in that sense too! but on second thought I fear she'd never go for it... I get the feeling she's really hesitant about her music being compared to / her success being tied to other people after the whole Alex Turner debacle

omg I just saw this screenshot of Alexandra congratulating Drew Erickson and Lana for their grammy noms, apparently Drew and her have been dating for a while! she probably also knows Lana thru him... imagine the collapse if there was a Lana collab on her new album .

anyways giggling at CNN getting on their high horse and bashing NYT in that article as if they weren’t posting gaylor bait last year… I have the receipts

omg I never thought the day would come where she explicitly addressed it like this.. good for her

[Delayed] NFR! Anniversary Lime Green Vinyl Repress
honeyslow replied to hotshot2am's topic in New Releases
I emailed Velvetmusic and they said they’ve removed the listing from the website because they’re uncertain how much stock they will receive but they expect already placed orders to be shipped in 3 weeks. So it seems like the official release is coming sooner rather than later. -
Peace will always be that girl the things this song makes me feel... whew

Grammy Awards 2024 - Lana Del Rey Nominated for 5 Awards
honeyslow replied to Elle's topic in Awards & Nominations
After posting in this thread just before I went to bed I had a stupid dream about Lana at the Grammys lmfao… so here’s some free entertainment for y’all: - The first award (that Lana was nominated for) to be announced was Best Alternative Album and Lana won. When her name was read she stood up with a knowing smile on her face and looked back at someone in the crowd. She was wearing a pink dress in an Asian style with flowers embroidered on it in metallic thread (think the dresses from In The Mood For Love). It was kind of fugly tbh but still cute. Then as she walked up the steps Lana took a handful of paper stars (but a bit bigger, like origami) (from where? idk it’s a dream) and threw them all onto the stage. She stood at the podium for a second, then without saying anything she started doing some weird movements like a modern dance routine, did a cartwheel (uhuh), and then picked up a random paper from the floor. The camera zoomed into the paper stars and we could see each one had a number, the one she picked was #104. She took it to the podium unfolded it and read it, and all it said was something like “#104. Thank you. But I’m not #68 so you’ll never know.” Then she left all the paper stars on the stage and walked off. - Thanks for coming to my TED Talk sjsjjsjs -

I don’t think they’re able to know how many votes something is getting, I assume he meant he was surprised it was the last day already. -

apparently voting closes today in just over five hours at 6pm PT... the moment of truth is near even if it'll be another month before we know -
a question for the culture, would you count a Nikki collab album as LDR10 or not? I’m really not sure myself… I might as long as Lana has songwriting credits in most of the tracks, but I can definitely see an argument for no in any case the numbering of her albums is so disputed already that this would just be the final cherry on top lmao, I can already imagine the arguments
