  1. Lana Del Rey creates OPERAS. Song Cycles. Beginning Middle End (which is why there should not be bonus hits as they have nothing to do with the story). it is not just happenstance of what is written then (as proven as some of the songs were written long ago, and come back belonging in this particular song cycle opera. Lust for Life was in a way 2 halves divided into one whole. Can anyone say and believe it that "Ride" is anything but 100% Lana (the full version monologue and epilogue) and the video (that was much like Roy Orbinson's "A love so beautiful" with the producer of Johnny Cash's "Hurt" and America album sets.
  2. but should everyone work for free while others steal their work? Should Drake and Eminem and all the Metal Groups work for free? As touring is their big money. Should merchandise also be given away free then? (and not just those free goody bags at awards, premieres, etc. now Drake & Eminem don't need money they are now accustomed to a lifestyle (see:Elton John) and living without that lifestyle, (and Drake is not as old as Elton) so Drake has to live for many years in the lifestyle he is accustomed to Should the guy who drives the bus or provides security etc work for free? Why would they. It is only a job for them. to paraphrase Kristofferson "Free is just another word for nothing left to lose" So by going the streaming route, in a way it is career suicide ======================================================================= @slang- the country music industry/market is one to study over the years from pre-class of 1989 to post 90s and the new streaming method Country industry is ignoring the 50 weeks that Bebe Rexha & Florida Georgia Line have been #1 and going with the airplay only charts and still putting the women & minorities at a major disadvantage. The country artists that are becoming most popular now are ones that are in playlists online, where people don't know if they are white or black or male or female, HOWEVER- nor though, are they being named, so people don't necessary know who to later on listen to. It's throwaway and country threw out all of the pre-1990s artists when the change came in, telling them no airplay nor label touring support. Most groups folded as they couldn't afford it (nor would many places take a chance on an artist that has no radio or record company support). Some later on get "sponsored" by a superstar (like Willie Nelson had done for him, and he reciprocated, or John Anderson, etc. Or prior headliners get forced to be fifth on a bill, getting 3 songs to an audience who doesn't know them That of course doesn't also take in the abuse of women that is known now, and how they were expected to "...……." to the DJs and Promotors and heads of labels (most of which were/are male dominated) and even female execs were expected to do the same.) From what I know even metal were (perhaps are) solely reliant on Sharon Osbourne for letting them play the big tours over the years (which of course did help many for the future). But it all boils down to- will artists in the future play for free? record for free? and for this thread- it is not about an artist needing to sell 5 million (or even 1 million) It is about the album itself. I doubt studio musicians (the boys /players) would work for nothing. (which is why they are union members isn't it?) Life would get in the way. Ask the 99.999% who recorded one record over the years and had to get a real job. They obviously didn't. (same with actors, writers, playwrights etc.)
  3. Lana Del Rey wants us to listen to the entire album, song cycles/concept albums, as has been the case Born to Die, Paradise, Ultraviolence, Honeymoon, Lust for Life, and the new Norman Fucking Rockwell -all the tracks like in the others are there for a reason, with no filler (IMHO). (which is also why petty arguments over not liking this or that one or two songs is silly, because everyone else now is providing one song and the rest mostly filler or not heard and never to be heard.) these thoughts are based on this LONG Rolling Stone © article that needs to be read in its entirety- (only 4 paragraphs for fair use are printed out here I may be biased, but if Lana can't do it, I can't see anyone doing it. And I agree with the article- in the end, this will kill the music industry of which singers and songwriters and players (studio musicians) etc won't be able to devote their time/life to. (note- this might not apply worldwide, but it does apply in USA and Canada). ========================================================================================================= https://www.rollingstone.com/music/music-features/the-album-is-in-deep-trouble-and-the-music-business-probably-cant-save-it-753795/ © Rolling Stone, Tim Ingham The Album Is in Deep Trouble – and the Music Business Probably Can’t Save it Sales are plummeting, and the music industry is returning to the era of track-led consumption. Is the LP doomed? Make no mistake, the album is fighting for its life. Sales of music’s most beloved format are in free fall in the United States this year. According to figures published by the RIAA (Recording Industry Association of America), the value of total stateside album sales in the first half of 2018 (across download, CD and vinyl) plummeted by 25.8 percent when compared with the first half of 2017. If that percentage decline holds for the full year, and there’s every indication it will, annual U.S. album sales in 2018 will end up at half the size of what they were as recently as 2015. To put it more plainly, U.S. consumers will spend around half a billion dollars less on albums this year than they did in 2017...…..(many more paragraphs follow)- (read entire article which was also published in Billboard)
  4. Biggest piece of dreck. Anti-Semitic Racist Misogyst and in actuality, nothing happened. Not even a song. Bad acting all around too Don't know when Ryan lost it, but it is doubtful he can ever find it. Cody Fern though was great on House of Cards 2018 and the Versace Killing movie Solidifies though trump=devil. No redeeming values. And also again proving one doesn't need a cheesy moustache to be one of the most evil entities ever.
  5. It sure looks like It was, but not positive
  6. Depends on who wins and when it's announced. Ignore all spin until it's official In Lana & Chuck & President & MIchelle Obama I trust.
  7. If Lana Del Rey is doing a cover, may I recommend that Lana covers Lana Del Rey's Yayo2018, the cover version she will use for the last song on the Norman FUCKING Rockwell (who in reality was a racist) song cycle. or perhaps Elton John's "One more arrow" btw, you can find me underneath the palms...
  8. Elton is a liberal and always was New album looks to be the greatest song cycle ever.. btw, see this weeks NY Mag (not newyorker but New York Magazine) for a great article written by Bill Wyman on Reg (Elton's original real name)
  9. Sean Lennon & Lana are finally together in a picture. Hope both Sean and Rocky are on the new album.
  10. How to disappear is one of the greatest protest songs of all time. Shows how the pitiful deplorable trump man seethes with self-pity, stupidty, and total lack of being able to get it up both proverbially and in their general life, totally pathetic losers and pathos And probably the Apple version is the one that she will sing with just piano (hopefully better than the hack that was there) Where was Byron @itsMr_Thomas but if not Byron, one dream that Lana & Elton were to duet on this the song cycle /suite /concept of the 3 songs so far are amazing. And 100% Lana. Jack should be happy he is along for the ride.
  11. episode 8 sucked in fact, if not for Joan Collins & Jessica Lange, and Jennifer Lynch directing, this whole season sucks. (as does recently rewatching 16 candles, John Hughes is a disgrace to society. Yet he was an icon???) and the irony is- Episode 8 of Jennifer Lynch's dad, David, in Twin Peaks 2017 was the greatest episode in tv history (or tied with the last episode of Twin Peaks 2017) What year is this?
  12. How to disappear is one of the greatest protest songs of all time. Shows how the pitiful deplorable trump man seethes with self-pity, stupidty, and total lack of being able to get it up both proverbially and in their general life, totally pathetic losers and pathos And probably the Apple version is the one that she will sing with just piano (hopefully better than the hack (LOL) that was there) Where was Byron @itsMr_Thomas but if not Byron, one dream that Lana & Elton were to duet on this the suite of the 3 songs so far are amazing. And 100% Lana. Jack should be happy he is along for the ride.
  13. This morning, Oct 26 it was announced the 11th bomb has been found all of them going to the Democratic possible candidates in 2020, all favorite targets that trump in his Nazi/Neo-Nazi like hate rallies have used as articles of their rhetoric. authorities are now positing that the bombs came from Florida and whether functional or meant to scare, the aim is the same, to prop trump up, and to send a warning "that next time..." Senator Booker is the latest, others reportedly including my President & Michelle Obama, President Bill & Hillary Clinton, Eric Holder, Senator Kamala Harris, Rep. Maxine Waters (two), Actor & activist Robert De Niro, Holocaust survivor George Soros, among the 11 and CNN also got one, as the anti-freedom of press trump continues. trump now is wanting the army to be called in (what is he going to call to shoot to kill all the refugees???) and now trump and the Republicans are going after Transgenders, and LGBT community But Sen Harris, Booker, President & Michelle Obama, Eric Holder, etc. shall persist, and no, they will not be silenced.
  14. Connie Francis' You're gonna miss me https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ffJEU0HpqUg
  15. Oct. 20, 2018 chart with Born to Die not being on the 200 this week, Lana falls out of the Top 20 (and with there being five albums that in the next four to six months that might hit 300 weeks (all male based), odds are the Top 20 is now out of reach, as there are not that many albums above not on the chart. (She would need a remastered Born to Run with Holiday song so that it remains on the chart all year, the last couple of years Born has dropped off during the Christmas seasonal records and special box sets hitting the chart. That is the only way to consistently pick up weeks. (Keep in mind Lana had passed the Beatles & AC/DC & Eminem but all 3 recharted and have remained constant on the chart, and there are those albums released after Lana's that now are nearing or above). that said- Still don't quite understand how it is not on the 200, being that Born to Die is bulleting at #19 on the Alternative album 25 chart after 212 wks on that chart Born to Die is bulleting at #48 on the Rock 50 album chart after 220 wks on that chart and amazing is that on the Social 50 chart, Lana is #12, which is the highest she ever was on this chart, being on this chart for 132 wks.
  16. Big Eyes & I can Fly & Coachella amazing how current these sound today how the lyrics are spot-on perfect
  17. Here's to Connie Francis. Who by the way was viciously and brutally attacked (the R word that triggers some people so I won't write it) by a male and her life was never the same. it does appear its a he vs SHE season (and unfortunately I think Ryan believes men can do whatever they want and its not the victims fault based on his recent remarks. (Does that mean Kevin Spacey will star in the next season?) I am aghast at the words Ryan M used. (BTW- he may indeed lose at SCOTUS in the Feud / Olivia DeHavilland case now that (that scumbagasshole is on scotus, and in their narrow blinders might pick the case up (even though it would work both ways but Republicans are always too blinded by blinders to think one step ahead, which is why they always go backwards). ==================================================================================== some History on Connie Francis- (with the R word redacted from this wiki entry-) 1977-1981- After her modest success with "(Should I) Tie a Yellow Ribbon Round the Old Oak Tree?" Francis began performing regularly again. While appearing at the Westbury Music Fair in New York, on November 8, 1974, Francis was (r word redacted) at the Jericho Turnpike Howard Johnson's Lodge in Jericho, New York, and nearly suffocated under the weight of a heavy mattress the culprit had thrown upon her.[2] She subsequently sued the motel chain for failing to provide adequate security and reportedly won a $2.5 million judgment,[14] at the time one of the largest such judgments in history, leading to a reform in hotel security. Her (the scumbag asshole who ***** her) was never found.[15] During the years after the incident, Francis went into depression, taking as many as 50 Darvon pills a day and rarely leaving her home in Essex Fells, New Jersey.[16] In 1977, Francis underwent nasal surgery and completely lost her voice. She went through several more operations and even when she got her voice back, she was forced to take vocal lessons. Although she had taken vocal lessons previously, this was the first time she had been asked to do so. In 1978, Francis returned to the recording studio to cut an album titled Who's Happy Now? The leading recording on this album was a disco version of "Where the Boys Are". She recorded this song also in Japanese, Italian, and Spanish, as she had done before with her original 1960 version. Several songs from the Who's Happy Now? sessions were subsequently recorded in Italian, Spanish, Japanese, and German. The Spanish and German recordings became albums of their own in as Connie Francis en Español in Spain and as Was ich bin (What I Am) in Germany. All three albums and the singles culled from them were released on United Artists Records. Francis returned to the recording studio in 1981 to cut "Comme ci, comme ça", and "I'm Me Again". The latter became the title track of a subsequent album which featured the aforementioned new songs, as well as previously unreleased material from the 1950s and 1960s. "I'm Me Again" became Francis' last single to chart on the AC charts. Both the single and the album were Francis' last original releases on MGM Records; Polydor bought the label in 1976 and discontinued it in 1982.
  18. but he'll always have a song on the charts with his name on it as he himself said on SNL He actually bragged about it
  19. notes about the Oct. 13, 2018 chart where Born to Die holds at 314 weeks (unfortunately) Born to Die is #18 on the Alternative Album Top 25 chart in its 211th week Born to Die is #45 on the Rock Album Top 50 Chart in its 219th week Duet with Cat Power is #23 in its 6th week on the TripleA chart and what would be really cool (but TPTB probably won't allow it) would be the following- The misogynist rock hall of fame (which should really be retitled the Music Hall of Fame) announced the 15 nominees for the class of 2019 (to be announced in Dec. and given in March 29, 2019 at the Barklays Center in NYC) Only 3 women were on the ballot out of 15. One of the three is Stevie Nicks, solo. (Fleetwood Mac is already in the Hall). (the other 2 are Janet Jackson and Chaka Khan as the leader of Rufus) It would be nice if Stevie Nicks would request that Lana Del Rey be one of the people who inducts her into the Hall (should Stevie be one of the inductees when they announce it). Wouldn't that really be cool? (and that only requires a speech, doesn't require a song). ya hear that Stevie?
  20. I kept wondering why Banks would be going negative on Lana then I realized this is publicity hound Azealia and not alternative singer Jillian Banks. and no, art deco was not about Azealia. That was always one of the single most stupid things I ever heard. Good for Lana. and go and vote this year to stop trump's agenda of hate.
  21. https://www.salon.com/2018/10/05/so-its-true-republicans-really-do-hate-women/ They really do hate women. It's long been frowned upon to acknowledge this fundamental truth: Misogyny is at the heart of right-wing politics. Pointing out that hatred of women and a desire to keep them under the boot is an animating force of Republican politics is sure to draw pained expressions from many liberal men, certain that the feminists are being hysterical again. Surely feminists don't think it's quite as simple as that, right? Surely we understand that anti-abortion views are about a sincere belief that life begins at conception and anyway, Republicans aren't serious when they say they're going to ban abortion. That's just something they say to rile up the rubes, to trick them into voting for the real agenda, which is about economics and taxes. Certainly you women can't think you are important enough that oppressing you is a major priority for Republicans, right? We're not hearing that argument much these days, though the price that had to be paid for the wake-up call was steep indeed: The election of a gloating misogynist who brags about his lengthy career sexual assault. Now the Senate, with Friday's cloture vote to move forward with the nomination of Brett Kavanaugh, is one step from seating a piggish frat boy who has been credibly accused of abusive sexual conduct by multiple women to the Supreme Court. Once there, he will almost certainly be the fifth vote to gut abortion rights and to start chipping away at LGBT rights and contraception access. (more paragraphs, ends with-) In the instant classic work of feminist philosophy, "Down Girl: The Logic of Misogyny," Kate Manne disputes the naive conception of misogyny as some sort of knee-jerk hatred of women. Instead, she argues that it's about the policing of women. A misogynist is perfectly happy with women if they behave the way he wants them to, by being servile and pleasing. But when women start to resist their assigned role and start insisting on respect, justice and equality, the fangs will come out. We saw the truth of Manne's theory play out throughout this Kavanaugh hearing. Oh, we heard so much about how Kavanaugh loved the silent, smiling women and girls who were brought out to flank him at every public appearance. A great deal of attention was paid to letting us know exactly how much Kavanaugh adores the women who populate his world and take orders from him, such as his law clerks and the girls on the basketball team he coaches. But when women started saying no to him and started speaking up, he got red-faced, screaming and self-pitying. Republicans in Congress were so deeply moved by his performance because they, too, cannot believe these women who think they have a right to speak out. That was why it had to be Brett Kavanaugh, rather than substituting in some other right-wing judge with equivalent qualifications and fewer allegations of drunken sexual assault. Because Republican misogyny is not an act, and the party and its followers eagerly seized this opportunity to put women in their place. …

  23. actually it is 100% polar opposite. But the Republican operatives want people to think it is. there are only 2 parties, and no independents as all independents are actually a or b. or anarchists who have no idea how the system works (like Sarandon, Nader, Sanders) but feel free to love Kavanaugh. Who peeled an onion and cried on cue as the entire performance of his was scripted and written by Republican operative Don McGahn At least 10% of the public does. Thankfully there are people like Gabby Giffords and Liberal Mike Bloomberg and others who are applying what Scalia & the Republicans made legal to help the Democratic party. And the gofunds that already raised 3 million to fund an opponent to Collins (who was and is Republican). and no to term limits for judges. That would not solve anything. Brexit had help with Steve Bannon, Nigel & Boris combining, along with those behind trump. (Same with other far right nationalists). So Brexit is also partially our fault too. trump has to be defeated soundly and loudly at the polls if he (or his daughter) is the nominee in 2020.
  24. How exactly can one blame the Democratic party when the Republicans fixed this, had complete control fully stopped Judge Merrick Garland and totally stopped and how now the public knows the reason why W Bush did not allow the papers to be released from Kavanaugh's time with W, as he was an operative for W, and how this never came out during any of the other hearings thanks to W hiding the papers. As to why they stuck with Kavanaugh, as someone said, there were many other conservative justices with the same conservative views, but Kavanaugh is the one to complete the Koch Brothers dream of bringing America back to the age of NO rights for Women, Gays, or any non-extreme fundamental Christians (and that doesn't include Jews either) and against any protest at all. again, when the Republicans own all the branches, how can anyone blame the Democratic party? I blame those that did not strongly back President Obama and the bots of Bernie who demanded 100% and that stupid ass Michael Aventatti who has his own agenda and is someone I wouldn't vote for in a million years. Now is not the time to burn it down anarchy style Now is the time to GOTV and vote as if your life depends upon it, because it does.
  25. the only way to change what has happened is to vote 100% Democratic for this election, then win back control of the House, maybe the Senate (more likely in 2020), and the Presidency in 2020 and then if one doesn't like this or that person, at that time vote for someone different, but looking for perfection or whining that one person isn't perfect only takes things back further (meaning those in West Virginia need Joe Manchin to win so that his seat remains in the Democratic party and if the Senate turns blue, then the committees have the majority to control the agenda and stop trump/Kavanaugh and the deplorable that handled the hearings Don McGahn (who was the operative that stopped a full investigation and trump's words of "full" were full of shit as they never were going to allow a full investigation or anything about his temperament at all. without further ranting- I saw this being played today somewhere and it is most appropriate. Music & Lyrics© Harry Chapin "Why did the little girls grow crooked While the little boys grow tall The boys were taught to tumble The girls told not to fall The girls answered the telephone The boys answered the call That's why little girls grew crooked While the little boys grew tall Why did the little girls grow crippled While the little boys grow strong The boys allowed to come of age The girls just came along The girls were told sing harmonies The boys could all sing songs That's why little girls grew crippled While little boys grew strong Why did the little girls come broken While the little boys came whole The little boys were set aflame The girls told to fan the coals The boys all told to be themselves While the girls were told play the roles That's why little girls came broken While little boys came whole Why were the little girls all frightened To be just what they are The boys were told to ask themselves How high how far The girls were told to reach the shelves While the boys were reaching stars That's why little girls were frightened To be just what they are And still they bled for us all As the moon rode the sky They carried our seed When our need ran high They fed all our children In the night as they cried Womankind wept As mankind died Why were the little girls left hurtin' When all the boys were done And the girls left in the moonlight When the boys went to meet the sun And when the girls were open Why had the little all won? That's why little girls were hurtin' When the little boys were done Why did the little girls grow crooked While the little boys grew tall It's maybe because the little boys Didn't ever have to grow up at all " /Lyrics from The Harry Chapin Archive at Harrychapin.com\
