  1. Don’t know which song it is but it’s Billie Holiday. I like this trend of evilentity betting cake. I have to say again, i am really very happy with this recording and i hope this is, at least in part, an indication of things to come for the new album (hello "western," "west coast" and "stripped down"). Nothing about this feels like someone else’s attempt to make her “relevant” to today’s charts. There’s a subtlety and nuance to this production that most of BTD and some of Paradise is lacking; no turning everything up loud in your face going on here. For example, i am very pleasantly surprised by and pleased with how the acoustic guitar is recorded and mixed, it’s there more for color and texture rather than as a “spotlight” instrument--you feel it more than hear it. If you have good speakers or headphones listen for the sub-bass organ note that comes in at 3:19 when Barrie sings “Oh, summer wine.” It sounds amazing. That shit fills the entire room if you’re listening on speakers, and it rattles your skull if listening on headphones. I love it. I like that throughout the whole song there’s just a kick drum and snare, and that the beat just coasts along without trying to carry the backing track on its own. And how good is the drum sound? How about that marimba? And the James Bond horns sound great. Her backing vocals are excellent and so expressive, she really nailed them. Everything seems to be working together as one, to serve the whole of the song/production, rather than the song showcasing any one thing. I am geeking out pretty hard on this one, you guys. But someone answer me this: why do people (and so many at that) take music videos and upload them to their channel? There are like 25 channels already that have uploaded the video or just the audio. What the hell do people do this for?
  2. I was wondering when someone was going to bring up her flashing her ass at the beginning. I certainly wasn't going to mention anything.
  3. ^ Good one, dude. You're getting very creative lately...
  4. I don't know if Lana would even make my top 20 and i am here. U wanna fight?
  5. What's random about this that makes you say that? For me it never comes down to just one thing like a singer's voice; it's about the sum of the parts--the composition, arrangement, production, performance, even engineering--the entirety of the recording. Besides, we're talking about the golden age of record production here, a 1966 Lee Hazlewood production. This version is really great but in my opinion it can't touch the original. And even so, like i said, i think Barrie's vocals are the highlight here. Though they sound excellent together. I would love an entire record of them doing duets like this. Speaking of which, it would be a no-brainer to start doing this on tour, and they really should, but you know she hardly ever does what's obvious or logical.
  6. Where in the world did this come from? This is such a faithful cover that, let’s be real, i’d rather just listen to Lee Hazlewood & Nancy Sinatra. But i gotta say, Barrie’s voice is as perfect as can be for this song. I think he actually steals the show here. Who the hell produced this? Please produce her next album. This is the best production since AKA.
  7. WHAT IS THIS??????????? This is so Lee Hazlewood/Nancy Sinatra. Oh my god. Oh duh, no wonder, just realized what it is, ha.
  8. Yeah, i'm not into liking things ironically.
  9. Oh my god.......i was about to say something about this picture: But i guess i won't now. FINE. These are so unbelievably hideous.
  10. I am not evilentity, i do not keep receipts. I throw them out.
  11. On the first day of the tour, hours before the show, Lana Del Rey Online had a status about what the stage looked like and i asked how they were getting the information (wondering if perhaps they were inside the venue or what) and the amusing response i got was, "I'm a fansite on twitter, I find all this news"
  12. I don't know about lyrically, but she mentioned in one interview that TIWMUG is the one song on BTD that she was not happy with the production. Though if that's the case, you'd think she'd be unhappy with the production on most of the album... Oh yeah, the video that, at the time, revealed a new Paradise backing track ............................................................
  13. You know when you go into a stall in a public bathroom and there is shit all over the walls like someone's ass exploded?
  14. Thanks, Felix. Now i know the drummer's name and who wrote the arrangements, just the info i was looking for
  15. What does that say before "Orchestral Version"? DH? What is DH? This could just be an arrangement that the film's composer scored for a scene rather than the backing track for the song.
  16. Go to any article on the story and just briefly scan through the comments and you're guaranteed to come across some jackass spewing anti-Muslim garbage. It's staggering the conclusions that some people allow themselves to draw.
  17. He was recently diagnosed with Alzheimer's, yes. But you'd be surprised, Sitar. Don't underestimate people's drive and creative spirit. Here's a fascinating and inspiring note about one of my favorite composers, Alfred Schnittke: And, let me tell you, his post-stroke compositions were heavy. Also, in the last year of his life, Beethoven had to press his ear against the piano to feel the sound of what he was playing because his hearing had gotten so poor, he could barely even hear. There's also world-renowned virtuoso percussionist Evelyn Glennie who is deaf. Not saying that Bobby will exhibit the same tenacity, but you never know. He's not dead yet. On a completely unrelated note, i would love to see Maddy mowing the lawn, ha.
  18. I don’t know, from what i can remember, merchandise at concerts has been grossly overpriced well before the internet. Maybe this Paradise stuff is slightly more (taking into account inflation) than the average prices of tour merch, say, 25 years ago, but i bet not by that much. I remember when i was a kid seeing t-shirts at some concerts for around $40. I just went to an inflation calculator site, and, as an example: $40 in 1988 is the equivalent to $78.50 today. Also, most recording artists outside of the very top mega sellers, have never made that much profit from records. That’s why touring has always been very important to artists. Live performances are an artist's bread and butter. I've said this before and i'll say it again: I think where piracy and file sharing have hit the industry the most/hardest is in the budgets for recordings. Labels just don't have big money anymore to allow artists to make big budget records as they were once made (exempting Axl Rose with Chinese Democracy ) This is going pretty far back, but just as an example: In 1966 Brian Wilson racked up a $50,000 bill to Capitol records for the recording of the Beach Boys single Good Vibrations, the most expensive single at that time, spanning around 20 sessions over the course of around half a year at four different studios. That's $358,000 in today's money. For one song. Now, that was more of an exception than the rule, but it still goes to show how much $ record companies had at one point in time. Can you imagine even the biggest major label today spending $358,000 on one song for a pop artist? Sure, 5 Points is a tiny label, but just for some point of reference, what was the budget for AKA, $50,000? For the entire record. With a big producer like Kahne. Anyone have any figures from Interscope for BTD? I've been curious about this.

  20. I'm surprised by some of the things people haven't mentioned about the shows, like how they're playing the backing vocals from the album (lame--BUT someone should bribe the engineer for a copy of all of those backing vocals only mixes ), and how the Body Electric arrangement is pretty different from last summer's shows and the album version.
  21. I read the title of this thread as My New Meth Teacher. Oh, the things that this forum does to one.
