10milestereo 228 Posted November 17, 2012 So, I can't be the only French music/culture aficionado here. Share some of your favorites! Dimitry Kubrick 165 Posted November 17, 2012 As a french boy : i only listen to Serge Gainsbourg and Edith Piaf
10milestereo 228 Posted November 17, 2012 I love the classics, but I also love a lot of contemporary stuff. My favorite thing about being fluent in French is being able to understand Gainsbourg's lyrics and puns. And I got to meet Charlotte!
Cleopatra 1,099 Posted November 17, 2012 Heard this in the movie "For Lovers Only" by the Polish Brothers.
Myriam 559 Posted November 17, 2012 Yes, finally this thread! this (every Aznavour song kills me tbh) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W-4g-pXZ8AQ There are so many songs I love I can't possibly share them all, but I do have to say that I love the classics a lot more than the contemporary stuff ( I don't even listen to new french songs that much really) 2 Quote Long hair, Lana that's my bitch
10milestereo 228 Posted November 17, 2012 ^I love all of those songs you posted! Aznavour kills me every time too. His lyrics are so incredible. <3 I haven't listened to Dalida in ages, but I used to be obsessed with that song. The Mireille Matthieu song was new for me and I love her singing style. As for the contemporary stuff, there are some great ones happening right now, but you really have to dig to find them. Arthur H is by far my favorite of them all because I feel like he continues the Aznavour and Gainsbourg legacy with his own spin. I was lucky enough to see him live in NYC this year and he is just a master of a performer. I also love Florent Marchet, but he is not at all well-known. Another of my favorites: Of course, we can't forget Brel and Brassens: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nflF1G2XFpk
10milestereo 228 Posted November 17, 2012 ^She's lovely! I've been following her since her first album and Blonde is definitely the best. I also love this. SO 80s!
deeth 107 Posted November 17, 2012 I always listen to Aznavour with my grandfather. I like Serge and Charlotte Gainsbourg. I was supposed to see Charlotte live this summer, but her backtrack was lost by the airline and she refused to perform. Huge disappointment! 0 Quote To be away from all, to be one of everything
10milestereo 228 Posted November 17, 2012 I'm so sorry she canceled your show! Will she reschedule? I was gutted she didn't come to the US again on this tour. Maybe next time. She and her band were absolutely amazing on the IRM tour! She's also so gracious and down to earth in person.

I'm still hoping she'll do a show here in the future, I've never seen her live. You're lucky and it's exciting to hear that she's awesome live. : ) 0 Quote To be away from all, to be one of everything
10milestereo 228 Posted November 17, 2012 ^I think next time she releases an album (and I don't count Stage Whisper), she will definitely tour North America and Europe again.

Hello Heaven 1,578 Posted December 6, 2012 WHY HAVE I ONLY JUST NOTICED THIS THREAD? Vanessa Paradis is the only person other than Lana who I'd say I truly stan for. Ugh I love all of her stuff, all the cheesy 80's stuff to her latest stuff. I also recently started collecting some of her vinyls, they're so cute. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C72piaGmahs I guess I listen to -M- quite a bit too, seeing as he's a good friend of Vanessa. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tbYAMlNvQSI And, hey, if you like french music, you have to love Serge. I love what him and Franck Langolff produced for Vanessa. Argh she's so beautiful in this video. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mXoxtUYCGdk

Je dis aime is one of my favorite French albums. I forgot to post this when we were fangasming over her earlier in the thread:
Fluorine 162 Posted December 9, 2012 I love Mylene Farmer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=puQJbvnbycE I actually just bought a ticket to her November '13 show in Brussels, even though I have no idea if I can make the trip yet. I do have a friend there who gave me an open invitation to come visit any time next year, but we haven't worked out the details. It's not a huge deal if I end up not being able to go, but at least it's a possibility! 1 Quote iamamiwhoami ▲ purity ring ▲ jessie ware ▲ grimes ▲ twin shadow

Hello Heaven 1,578 Posted December 9, 2012 I love M! Je dis aime is one of my favorite French albums. I haven't bought any of his albums yet because some of them are quite expensive to get over here (because he's irrelevant in England) plus I prefer buying physical copies of albums rather than downloading but I'm definatly considering getting at least one of his albums.

They're quite cheap on Amazon France. I usually do a once a year big order from there and get all the releases I want. You'd think import albums would be easier to find in NYC, but no one cares about French music here.
