Her website has been updated with a tour section-- wondering if we might be getting an album announcement on Friday. Also, I've been thinking that the Metallic Stallion snippet is the same song as the leaked American Dream snippet. The production is similar and part of the MS lyrics show up in the American Dream snippet.

i've been on a marina kick again after hearing Cupid's Girl and love her discography but god DAMN did the producer of ADIAML absolutely abuse the steam-pressure-release sound that's all over the album. it's overused in so many songs too like New America and the title track. it started being the only thing i could hear. it's ruining the album for me :toofloppy:

Am I the only one who hates the shade of red that she chose? It’s too bright but also a bit cold and it completely clashes with her magenta / cyan gradient hair

like it’s such a bad shade of red and it doesn’t even exist on the FROOT title…

why couldn’t she have done magenta? Or cyan? Or white. Or anything else but that shade of red

Let's talk about some good aspects of the worst thing she's done so far in her entire career: LOVE + FEAR :creep:

Despite being her weakest project so far, I won't be ashamed to say that it did have some good moments that are worth remembering, such as:

L+F is such an era and project that makes me feel sad because it's an example at how potential can be squandered by really bad decisions. Most of the outtakes had much more potential than the released songs, and some released songs would've been much better if they weren't overproduced and chopped, like You and STBS. I really wish she had kept the original Handmade Heaven concept because I just know the L+F concept was rushed, and some of the least good songs made it into the cut. :crai:

A lot of people like to blame Marina's psychology courses and her just not having the creative juice anymore for how mediocre L+F and while I'm sure those were contributing factors in some way or another, I personally blame Jack. Even when you ignore the implied issues in their relationship and how they likely affected her personally and creatively, the fact that L+F was the album that she worked on with and centered around Jack-- yet it turned out to be her weakest project with a clear decline in artistry-- suggests to me that he was a major obstacle for her creatively, especially since her music has been improving after their breakup.

Also this could easily just have been fan coping, but I swear there were rumors going around about L+F being rushed to fulfill commitments to her label and contract, and that was in part why it was pushed with so heavily with the "double" album concept.

I think Marina taking psychology courses is such a bland excuse to explain why this album is weak. Some leftovers and early versions of tracks about personal growth are actually good, it's just how they were finished (or scrapped) that makes them bad.

I don't know whether to just blame Jack, I'm sure many other people's decisions contributed the fate of this album, lol, but yeah, I do think Jack played a big role, sadly.

I think we can definitely blame jack, the reason she worked with so many co-writers was literally because she 'doubted her decision making abilities' and I believe the reason she felt that way was due to her constantly ignoring her gut feeling about him all the time. there's also her cfs, and that london house they shared had black mold the landlord just painted over, I'm not suggesting marina is completely blameless for the album being how it is but at this point, six years later, some people are being way too harsh considering all that we know about her circumstances at the time.

this was about adiaml! which I personally believe, it's her quickest release so far and her shortest, then she announced she was going independent on tour.

with the 6th anniversary coming up soon I've been thinking about love + fear a lot. I know plans were probably scrapped due to fan reaction, though I don't think the behind the scenes issues of her cfs flair-ups and arguments with jack (and likely label/management) should be ignored, but I want to know what, if anything, she originally had in mind for the whole 'two collections that are meant to be released separately' schtick.

whilst it feels like a very rushed thing she decided to do three weeks before the album dropped, she did actually talk about it a few months before. she was meant to pick different singles too and that didn't happen.

Yeah I agree, I'm not saying that she's completely free of any blame or criticism but I've always found the very aggressive way that people talk about her and her creative output or recent lack of artistry or whatever you want to call it, a little uncomfortable given how open she's been about unknowingly struggling with CFS for years and the plethora of other glaring issues in her personal life.

After thinking about it more, IIRC the contract/label theory was about both L+F and ADIAML. L+F was marketed as a "Double-LP" to try and fulfill the (alleged) remaining two albums on her contract, but I guess that didn’t fully satisfy the label, which is why she quickly followed up with ADIAML, which like you said makes a lot of sense.

I also remember some of the "insiders" alleging that the reason some of the better outtakes were scrapped was because Jesse St. John, who was credited a lot of them, was accused of sexual misconduct.

L+F was such a cursed era particularly behind the scenes and I would really love to know what her original vision for the album was, especially with all the leaked "Aquamarina" visuals.

You're reminding me of this interview where she was on stage and someone asked her about why she decided to come back to making music and her response was something along the lines of because i want to blah blah then explicitly stated not because i have a contract to fulfill then kinda chuckled. i deffo subscribe to the theory of L+F being rushed to fulfill her contract
