I remember an OG lipster from 2011 once talked in ATRL about chatting with Lana on tinychat and how she expressed disappointment at her label for scrapping Without You and KOL off the tracklist (I suppose she meant the standard), sadly I couldn't find the post

i am so convinced to believe btd had the same fate as uv, in terms of i think btd had been completely ready by the time emile haynie appeared on sight, with that gangster sound, similar to kinda outta luck, driving in cars, you can be the boss, velvet crowbar, marilyn monroe, national anthem demo, hundre dollar bill, carmen demo etc., it makes me to belibe so because they are very common is sound and could be easily existed within one project, but still even though she had a clear concept i doubt these songs were ever tied in a tracklist or even draft.... really want to clarify this period of her timeline (late 2010-2011 "pre-haynie rework time) for me, still shocking we dont have any timeline for her meeting and working with emile haynie

How would you describe your music-making process? How do songs like ‘Diet Mountain Dew’ and ‘Video Games’ go from initial idea to finished track?

Every one is really different. ‘Diet Mountain Dew’ I wrote at a time when I was really happy. I’d meet someone who was perfect for me. We had taken a trip to town and town, and he said “Diet Mountain Dew babe? New York City?” Then he was like, “You’re so pretty” as I smiled. For two months, I only had that line, and it wasn’t until I decided to put it into production that I fleshed out of the verse. The verse could have been anything, but the chorus, I had a long time. There’s usually only about one-fourth of the song that compels me. Something that hit home in my life. The rest of it, I just make up around it.

i believe she's talking about arthur lynn here, i believe he once said diet mountain dew was his favorite drink, and he also ran a diet mountain dew fanpage on myspace, and in some screenshots, you can see she's friends with it on myspace (i can't find any, but i know for sure she was friends with it)

perhaps diet mountain dew goes as far back as 2007? i've hypothesized they were together around the summer of 2007, however, i believe they also were together, or at least friends, in 2008, there's photos of them together in 2008, they have to be from 2008, since her hair's longer and her hair was quite short in 2007, so... i suppose it's still possible diet mountain dew goes back to 2008, diet mt. dew baby is from 2008, after all, and it would match up with what she said about having the chorus, and not quite the verses, since the verses in diet mt. dew baby are a lot shorter and the song itself was still just a concept

like a sad party — Lizzy Grant and Arthur Lynn, a former guitar...

If emile was the producer of the blue jeans demo then that’d have to be their earliest interaction march 2011… but also that guardian sampler from may 2011 also tagged born to die being produced emile hayniw

Kinda Outta Luck?

This reminded me when Lana was in Birmingham in November 2011 and someone requested her to sing that song and she was like "idk that song" :omfg2:
