barttttender 4,490 Posted Tuesday at 12:36 PM Hey guys. So, I'm pretty annoyed by the laziness of Lana's (or Itunes') team when it comes to updating her Essentials playlist. So, I was wondering what y'all would do with it if you were managing it? Here's my LDR playlist to kick things off. Note: there are 29 spots, and these are in no particular order. Also, I didn't include some of my favorite songs like Gods & Monsters or Taco Truck because this is more about Lana's hits/essential tracks, and not what me or you think are her best songs. Feel free to comment/edit or tear it apart 1. Summertime Sadness 2. Summertime Sadness (Cedric Gervais remix, I know you lot hate it but it's the biggest hit of her career) 2. Ride 3. Cola 3. Video Games 4. Summer Bummer feat. ASAP Rocky 5. Norman Fucking Rockwell 6. Radio 7. Did you know that there's a tunnel... 8. Love 9. Snow on the Beach feat. Taylor 10. Born to Die 11 Fuck it, I love you 12. Say Yes to Heaven 13. Young & Beautiful 14. Lust for Life Feat. The Weeknd 15. High by the Beach 16. Shades of Cool 17. Mariner's Apartment Complex 18. Doin' Time 19. Chemtrails Over the Country Club 20. The greatest 21. Ultraviolence 22. Don't Call Me Angel (yes, I know, you hate it, but this was a moderate hit, far more than 13 Beaches that's been sitting on that list for some stupid reason for a year now) 23.A&W 24. Blue Jeans 25.White Dress 26. Tough feat. Quavo 27. West Coast 28. National Anthem 29. Venice Bitch HM: Music to Watch Boys to, Cherry, Brooklyn Baby, Prisoner, etc. But these are just not as "essential" imo, more like fan favorites. Also, I despise Blue Banisters so didn't add any tracks from that album. But it was kinda of a flop anyway, and iTunes only has Blue Banisters as a single for the sake of having one. Thoughts? Your playlist?
Embach 37,695 Posted Tuesday at 01:29 PM Since it's made for the general public, I would add all the singles (& promotional singles like Black Beauty) from all of her albums + singles that were soundtracks, collaborations and covers, I would also additionally add these songs that went viral like The Other Woman, Margaret, Let The Light In, Art Deco, ect.

Your playlist? I Love it, expect for having Summertime Sadness twice, but I just don't like having different versions of the same song in one playlist. Also would add Arcadia. But nonetheless 10/10 Edit: or add Thunder which would lead into having 2-4 popular fan favs

Young and Beautiful 29. Say Yes to Heaven This is what I came up with. Not in order and not my favourite songs but assuming its for the public, I think this is a good mix of her most popular songs. I personally didn't include DCMA and SOTB because for an "essential Lana" I think it should be her songs (that's she's written and has at least 90% main roll in), which is also why I didn't include Once Upon a Dream (since its a cover) — but I did make an exception for Doin' Time since it's soooo popular 4 Quote The cicadas in the sunset are your guide
daphnedinkley 13,168 Posted Tuesday at 07:11 PM based on the idea that it's purely lana's essential tracks, i based my list off of obvious classics (Summertime Sadness, Video Games, etc), songs with virality / popularity that has lasted for quite some time (Radio, Let The Light In), songs that you're likely to hear at a Lana show (Arcadia, PWYC) and at least one song from each album (hence the inclusion of High By The Beach, since that was a pretty big single from HM even tho it seems to be largely forgotten now!) - then i tried to order the list to flow nicely Born To Die Cherry Blue Jeans Ultraviolence Arcadia Norman Fucking Rockwell! At least on iTunes. "Essentials" is the equivalent of an artist's Biggest Hits playlist.

As for Don't Call Me Angel, the bridge is fire, and I just like to feature bops to offset the countless ballads. Without songs like Doin' Time, Off to the Races, Blue Jeans, Don't Call Me Angel and Tough, people might misconstrue her for another Adele, and I don't like that. For me, Lana's bops are the rarest form of her music (there's like 10 of them in 12 years), which is what makes them so special. Also, using her voice for ballads is kind of.... obvious. A bop just flips that on its head, capturing a unique, sexy, sardonic, low, modern vibe that no other pop stars have going on for them. So, I'll never give up the bops in her playlists. Even Don't Call Me Angel.

Yass, we want Lana to be a pop girly. So, these collabs with Ariana, Weeknd, Taylor, and Quavo. help. It's only like 5 songs out of 29.

It's the highest chart entry for Lana ever on Billboard, at number 4. It's a collab with The Beatles of today's pop music. So many of you come out for this collab with knives, but get a grip. I don't care for Taylor as much as you, but to call this song a flop makes zero sense.
