what ?? i literally probably have more irl trans friends than you do.. like i know at least 30 trans adults (it's important to signify that they aren't minors) on a very close level and i'd say about 75% of them support absolute free speech - i only personally know like 6 trans ppl who don't believe that people should be able to publicly present any opinion they feel represents their worldview and they're mostly public figures who only don't do so to not start drama and would think something very differently if they weren't public figures

First of all: I am trans, I work with trans people, I organize with them. I know more than you do. It's even ridiculous to suggest otherwise.

but anywayz my two cents is that i am all for free speech but also for consequences of said free speech. it is up to the platform to decide what they want on their site, and if protecting their users from a hateful rhetoric is one of the 'wants' on said site, you agree to abide by those rules when you participate. if you do not want to abide by those rules, you agree to open yourself up to the repercussions of free speech. if someone doesnt like it, there are plenty of different social media sites to choose from that will foster that rhetoric

I'll be nicer. I don't see how unrestricted free speech will do that. There's been unrestricted free speech outside of SM and it's all led to what's happening now.

idk why you have this preconceived notion of me wanting to give you a mod queue like why would i want to give you a warning for anything.. id rather people just get along. i was actually going to comment that this thread has been quite civilised given the subject matter but whatevurrr 

 

every time we lock a thread or warn or whatever, we say you can disagree but please keep it civilised. warnings are only really issued where there are personal attacks or name calling. your postings in this thread (thus far ) have been completely fine

well i actually do like u a lot bae but one of the warnings u gave me was fucking absurd    you warned and put me on mod queue (for 3 whole weeks) for posting a fucking meme lol (this one) .. it's laughable imo.. images are very much valid responses and i'll die on that grave no matter how many times i'm unfairly suspended

My husband and I are both bi. We have many friends in the lgbtq community and many democratic friends and not a single person supports limiting free speech either. IMO I feel like it’s only the people who spend majority of their time online who want to limit speech.

Unpopular opinion, but people who advocate absolute freedom of expression on X, for example, have probably never experienced a nasty slander there. Some know how to defend themselves against it, but others are intimidated, leave the platform and are thus restricted from expressing even their free opinion there. Anyone who feels offended by restrictions should bear in mind that they also offer protection on the other side.

The internet is full of trolls and people with bad intentions, and people like Musk are about to give them more space to flourish.

I don’t understand why you’re acting so purposefully dense. If user A is presenting their argument to user B, and user C randomly comes in and insinuates they’re on crack while offering no counter argument, that is breaking the first rule of the guidelines (Posts that are purposefully inflammatory, rude, hateful, insulting, or personal attacks on any person including other members will not be tolerated). I know you know why that wasn’t allowed. Yes, images are absolutely a valid response, but dropping in the middle of a conversation, insinuating a member is on crack because they have a different view point then you, and then leaving, doesn’t contribute anything to the conversation, and just starts another loop of arguments. 

 

I think @ultrabanisters said it best though, you can absolutely have free speech, but you aren’t free from the repercussions of said free speech. Especially on a place like Lanabords. we do have rules and guidelines that were agreed to upon registering. 

 

the mod team is constantly between a rock and a hard place because we want open discussions, but 6 times out of 10 it gets out of hand, and it results in hurt feelings and out of control arguments.

Users get mad when people aren’t warned for being inflammatory and then those same users get mad when people are warned for being inflammatory. I think instead of resulting to hateful attacks or generic ‘fuck off’ statements, both sides need to be more level headed, and try to understand each other because both sides make good points
