It's as rigged as that one Grammy voter who didn't vote for Lana because of the SNL performance. I mean only like ~10 anonymous voters have revealed their decisions out of like 10 thousand voters but STILL, it might indicate that there are more voters like these people. For example: Two Oscar voters didn't vote for Ralph Fiennes in Conclave for Best Actor because he already has an Oscar and it would be unfair, so they gave their votes to Adrien Brody in The Brutalist instead. But the fact is that Fiennes has actually never won one and Brody has one already. (Like do your fucking reasearch or what's even wrong with having an award already lol) One voter didn't vote for Cynthia Erivo in Wicked because they thought she's too old for that role. There are many voters who haven't seen the movies nominated there. One voter said that they couldn't get through the first Dune, so they didn't bother to watch 3 hours of Dune Part 2 (which is a Best Picture nominee + 4 other categories). Some voters also complained about the runtime of The Brutalist (3.5 hours long) (the film is nominated for 10 Oscars), so they didn't get to it or didn't finish it. My question is, who the fuck gets chosen there as a voters. It's a huge privilege to be there, so at least do your job like you've earned it. There are thousands of cinephiles around the world who would agree to do that for free. It's like the Grammys where the voters are biased without any critical thinking and ability to research. These are not People's Choice Awards or MTV Movie Awards, these are fucking Oscars. Filmmakers, actors and the team have poured their souls out for their films and the voters are really disrespectful by not bothering to watch those films. That's the reason why people do not take these awards seriously these days. Okay, so, whoever gets nominated, automatically becomes a member of the Academy, if I remember correctly. That means someone like, for example, Andy Garcia who got nominated only once back in 1991 and is now 68 years old will be voting. You'll often have dodgy decisions at the Oscars (e.g, Crash winning over Brokeback Mountain because of bunch of old straight farts from the Eisenhower and Reagan eras not having taste). Is Garcia into film now as much as he used to be? Is he in good health? Does he have the energy to watch dozens of movies, a lot of which are utter garbage like Emilia Perez? Can he sit through a four-hour Holocaust movie about an architect? I don't blame him if he doesn't, to be honest. I loathed Dune 1, thought it was one of the most boring movies ever (albeit visually spectacular), and I fell asleep multiple times. I gave Dune II a decent shot, too, and had the exact same experience. And I'm a huge Chalamet and Villeneuve fan! So, I'm fine with voters not vibing with everything or not being able to squeeze it all in. When you don't click with a script, you just don't click. The Dune story to me is literal hogwash. And at the end of the day, most of these votes will be in their 60, 70s and 80s. That being said, the Erivo and Fiennes comments are just bizarre. But, again, these might just be some older voters whose faculties are not all that anymore. What I'm saying is - don't expect much.

So far as I can remember of what I have read is that you can become a voter if you have at least two friends who are members of the Academy. It makes sense that Oscar nominated people can be the members as well. I think there are a variety of age groups, from 20s, 30s, 40s, 50s, 60s ect ect. I just thought that if these people vote for Best Picture, it would be respectful and fair to watch all of these movies (like imagine if 25% of those voters watched only mid films like Emilia Perez and didn't bother to watch other movies which are actually good). Those results would be messy and not objective. They can dislike the movies of course, it's alright not to vibe with them but if you're voting in important categories like Best Picture, it should be a necessity to watch them all of them (they get special screenings for that as well) and if they can't bother watching them then drop out of the voting for this one year (which would be alright, I'm sure that all the members have the right not to vote, if they don't want to or can't) but you know...it's just hard to expect that from 10,000 voters.

Ahh, you're right! You can be invited by your peers too! Would paste what I've found on that, but this website is flat-out not working for me anymore. And, yes, it's disappointing how some don't take it seriously. But then there are so many older members (trust me on this), pampered celebrities, and folks in the middle of making long-ass TV series or Marvel shoots. I'm not justifying it, of course, just saying I'm n not surprised that not everyone is taking it religiously. Folks have contractual obligations, kids, grandkids, etc, I've also seen so many of these bizarre comments from voters over the years. It almost feels like complete amateurs or kids voting at times. Because just because someone is good at like, sound design, it doesn't mean they know shit about storytelling or acting or whatever. You know what I mean? I worked with some editors, sound designers and tech guys, and some of their tastes were questionable at best. Like, one tech guy told me his fav film of all time was Drive with Ryan Gosling. *face palm. Of all time!!! Yikes. But to be fair, their choices as of late were pretty solid, e.g. Parasite. So I don't think they'll go with Emilia Perez. And, yes, a split between Fernanda, Demi and Mikey would be fab! I want all three to win for different reasons. Though I think Demi stands the biggest chance. They'll not give it to Mikey for her first leading role - just like they didn't give it to Chalamet for Call Me By Your Name (Gary Oldman took it instead). What I really want it is for EP to win nothing and Ariana to win for Best Supporting. Also Chalamet. Haven't seen Brody yet, but he cannot be better than Chalamet. Also he already won for a Holocaust movie, and a similar role. Like, let's diversify. What's your biggest wish this season?

Honestly, I agree about the voting, they all have other obligations, so yeah, they can't focus on all the movies at the same time. And all the film knowledge and opinions are different as well. I don't really have a concrete wish this season since I haven't seen half of the movies (most of them were released last month) but so far The Substance impressed me, so I'm happy with any kind of award for this movie!

Embach 50,354 Posted yesterday at 08:34 PM MY PREDICTIONS (based on odds, other victories, media hype and gut feeling): Best Picture: Anora What could also win: Conclave (although Anora won the main prize at Producers Guild Award and it's a clear indicator of Best Picture winner, it also won Critics' Choice and Palme D'or. Conclave has only won BAFTA - it could mean nothing but it shows that it's a second favorite to win. The Brutalist is probably the third favorite.) Best Director: Sean Baker for Anora (he won at Directors Guild Award which is a great indicator for Best Director victory) Who could also win: Brady Corbet for The Brutalist (Corbet won a Golden Globe and a BAFTA) Best Actor: Adrien Brody for The Brutalist Who could also win: Timothée Chalamet - he won the SAG Award + great campaign Best Actress: Fernanda Torres for I'm Still Here Who could also win: Demi Moore or Mikey Madison - they have won important awards earlier (Demi Moore - Golden Globe/Critics' Choice/SAG Award, Mikey Madison - BAFTA + many state film critics society awards, her movie also has a great chance at winning Best Picture) but the votes might have gone split between them, which gives Fernanda Torres a chance + the movie was nominated for Best Picture which people didn't expect - a dark horse nominee) Best Supporting Actor: Kieran Culkin for A Real Pain Best Supporting Actress: Zoe Saldaña for Emilia Perez (This is Ariana Grande's last chance to win, she has a better chance than the other 3 nominees) Best Original Screenplay: Anora Best Adapted Screenplay: Conclave Best Cinematography: The Brutalist Best Editing: Conclave Best Production Design: Wicked Best Costume Design: Wicked Best Make-Up & Hair: The Substance Best Original Score: The Brutalist Best Original Song: El Mal from Emilia Perez Best Sound: Dune Part Two Best Visual Effects: Dune Part Two Best Animated Feature Film: The Wild Robot What could also win: Flow (Won aGolden Globe) Best International Feature Film: I'm Still Here (Brazil) What could also (sadly) win: Emilia Perez but after the Twitter scandal, it's hard for me to see the movie win, also the hype-build for I'm Still Here has been huge. @Cult Leader I predict that Sebastian Stan will look amazing! Looking at my previous predictions, how many I got right: Golden Globes Awards: 8/15 Critics' Choice Awards: 11/19 BAFTA: 12/21 SAG Awards: 6/15 I can't wait to see the results! Me to the nominees:

Embach 50,354 Posted yesterday at 09:27 PM This is literally my Super Bowl! And I love how stacked the Best Actress category has been with amazing performances every year in the 2020s, the most exciting and competitive one, like this category has many favorites to win. This year it's Demi vs Mikey vs Fernanda, last year had Emma Stone vs Lily Gladstone, 2023 had Michelle Yeoh vs Cate Blanchett. No matter who will win, they've won in our hearts!

Yeah, Domingo's acting does nothing for me - but his fashion is top-notch. I love that June Squibb is attending. She just walked by looking fab in her 90s. She's as old as the Oscars themselves.
