Honeymoon - Pre-Release and Discussion Thread

Recommended Posts

hmm. idk. i think TLY is absolutely about barrie or inspired by him. even based on your second sentence--haven't we gathered that barrie was severely depressed? also it makes sense--"i still get trashed, baby, when i hear your tunes"--barrie was a songwriter.

speaking of TLY, god, i love it. it took awhile to click with me but now the bridge always makes me tear up--the trying to desperately connect to someone who you can't outright contact anymore. (trying to transmit, can you hear me?) it's heartbreaking.

Here's my take on it:

She sings about not being able to change a person, because he is the way he is and there is no use in changing him. She even really describes him as "crazy", which might not be an unusual lyric for Lana, but in this context it could be literal. Persons with mental disorders can#t just be changed like that from 0 to 10.

Then there is this thing with the tunes. David Bowie (who was VERY close to his brother Terry) wrote multiple tracks about him. I guess this line refers to being remembered how things were before the mental disease showed.

The bridge with the two Bowie references clearly shows that she's trying to contact someone who obviously isn't there anymore, at least not in her "realm". TVC15 is about someone crawling into a televsion and being lost into this world. Major Tom's spaceship is somewhere out there in space and clearly loses contact to earth, meaning he will most likely die. David bowie's brother was schitzophrenic, which most likely results in persons behaving like they are not experiencing what many others experience, or at least they take it differently.

Then we have the line about their love being hidden but never gone. Even though someone with a mental disorder might not be able to show his feelings, but they still are there.

And another reason why I don#t think it's about Barrie is the "I lost myself when i lost you" line. Even thouugh a break up can be veeeeeery hurtful, tjis line seems more like losing something even more important. David's brother was the one from his family he was closest with.

Not saying I'm right, it might very well be about Barrie, but this are my thoughts on TLY (and the only reason I REALLY like it .. if it would just be a break-up song, it would become extremely bladn to me)

emailed getmusic about the australian shipment and got this response

Physical pre-orders ship from our Sydney warehouse 1-5 business days prior official release date. This date is subject to change in the unlikely event of any unforeseen circumstances.

The estimated transit time via your selected shipping method eParcel is 6-10 business days.

so i wont be getting my vinyl for like 2 weeks  :toofunny:  :toofunny:  :toofunny:  :toofunny:  :toofunny:

and the boxset ships in november, right? what date?

I ordered my vinyl through them too, except with express (1-2 days) so i hopefully maybe might still get it early?? The boxset only seems to be shipping in November from the US store - the UK & AU getmusic ones imply they'll ship for release date...

"Wherefore" meant "why" in Shakespearean times, not where :slayty:

sry

So THAT's why "varför" is the swedish word for "why"  And people complain about the lack of important info in this thread  :uh:

And omg how much was that shipping method? I don't even think I saw it upon checkout, I was freaking out when it said only 250 copies of the boxset & 500 vinyls were available to australia so i rushed

And I think the express option was like $7.50 :)

I keep waking up in hopes it'd be leaked :(

Don't raise your hopes.

This time Lana didn't send any early copies (digital nor physical) to music reviewers, didn't even upload any snippet,

keeps preventing from stores who got it to sell it, and stores who haven't got it yet will probably get it a day before or so (Amoeba music). But a day before leak is useless due the NZ iTunes release which happens in 2 days from now.

So I guess no leak this era.

but I doubt someone from NZ is going to go through the trouble of leaking it since we'll all get it one day later anyway

I lurk so forgive the awful avatar but I wouldn't necessarily say just because "I lost myself when I lost you" is an extreme line for a break up that it suggests it's not about Barrie. Lana uses extreme imagery quite often "a piece of me died", "but I wish I was dead", so it wouldn't be unusual for her in relation to a traumatic break up. I don't know a whole lot about her personal life or what the tabloids say but it seemed like Barrie was very significant to her and her allusions to his depressive state and how much she seemed to lose herself in it could definitely apply to this song (I've always thought Black Beauty was about him and how she was slowly losing parts of herself "dying her hair black" etc to fit in with his world). I also got the sense that the relationship didn't end because of a lack of love but just an inability to be together healthily. Who knows, I guess it's subjective and could be a combination of the two - inspired by Bowie but also relating to Barrie (but she's not Taylor Swift so there will be no "hidden" messages in the lyrics spelling out BARRIE). Then again I don't really like the Bowie back story because it seems a little insensitive and too close to home for personal reasons.

I've been wanting to post for days considering I live in Kingston, Surrey and five minutes away from that damn record store! The one day I don't visit the board someone posts about her London signing and I miss getting tickets! This has been an emotional few weeks with added scat porn to make things interesting.

ETA: I just wanted to add that the reference to Hollywood legends could be related to what she said in an interview. I can't remember verbatim but I think it went something like she and Barrie connect by talking about Hollywood legends/famous musicians as if they were friends, or familiar or something (Im just babbling at this point).

Music To Watch Boys To - GREAT song, great concept, great vocals, wonderful execution.

24 - I really love how this builds up from a beautiful slow ballad to a Bond-track-chorus featuring spanish influences.

Religion - The message is beautifully delivered and the chorus is orgasmic.

The Blackest Day - The emotion in her voice is really strong and the chorus will be stuck in your head for a while.

Art Deco - Cute song, catchy yet stylish. Could play in some kind of scene-club.

Salvatore - She really aced this Little Italy vibe, I always wanted a mafioso song like this one.

High By The Beach - Still slays with it's bitterness and the coast-y-muddy trap vibes.

Freak - Mysterious and sexy, however it falls off quite a lot after the first chorus. Especially the bridge doesn't really do anything for me.

Swan Song - The verses aren't really that special, but the chorus infact is impressing. The song is actually quite sad and fits it's title, however some parts of it are a bit forgettable

Honeymoon - Still love this lynchian feeling with the lingering, creeping violens and her wonderful mature vocals. Compared to the rest of the album, it's not that good but it still has a very special vibe.

Terrence Loves You - I hate to rank this song so low, because the lyrics, her delivery and the instrumental is nice, but this song .. I don't know, it still hasn't really grown on me. Beautiful, but weaker in comparance to the other tracks.

Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood - The concept of the cover is nice, regarding the instrumental and her vocal delivery. However, the song itself isn't that interesting or special in my opinion and since she didn't strolled far from the original melody, it#s the same with the cover for me.

God Knows I Tried - Nice vocal delivery, the guitars and the  cicadas are cool aswell. The gospel thing really works, however it's not really my taste and I dislike the way too repetitive God Knows I - parts.
