The Rock/Punk/Metal Heads Thread

Recommended Posts

I always found this album by Witihin Temptation their most impressive. I know most of their fans saw it as a disappointment and just a side project, but I saw this era as phenomenal, with everything that I search for in an album.

And I find it truly so annoying that people in the metal/rock community are the most whiny when it comes to a band 'changing' their sound. Every single one of my favourite rock bands I listen to has faced non-stop negative comments at some point in their career, when to me I always saw it as their sound evolving rather than changing and downgrading. and it actually infuriates me that there is so much close-mindedness in the alternative community.

I went to Good Things Festival which is kinda the new thing since Soundwave got cancelled a few years ago.

Bullet For My Valentine brought back my faith and I'm getting back into them. They put on such a good show, even better than Stone Sour and Offspring imo hehe, when they were the two big headliners of the festival. I have an embarrassing confession too, I thought the lead singer and the guy who does the screaming we're the same, like I thought Matt Tuck did all the vocals ugh. He's still very attractive too tho. The lead guitarist Michael kept looking over our way and pointing. I just love their interaction from on stage.

Baby Metal was fucking awesome too!

This wasn't really the best year metal/rock, but, as an old school trash fan, I've been spoiled the past few years by some of my favorite bands releasing their best albums in over a decade.

Here are some things I liked during the year.

1.Sodom - Partisan

Without a doubt my favorite metal release of the year. If it weren't for Janelle and Gaga releasing this would for sure be album (well, ep) of the year.10/10

2. Castle - Deal Thy Fate

Bandcamp find. Killer album. I liked it the first listen, forgot about it for awhile, but after re-listening to it the past few weeks it's really grown on me. 10/10

3. Judas Priest - Firepower

Legends. One of their best albums in years. 10/10 would rock to this again.

4. Ghost - Prequelle

It's a 10 track album with an overdone 'spooky kids singing a nursery rhythm' intro, 2 instrumentals, and some fillers, but Pro Memoria, See The Light, and Dance Macabre were some of my favorite songs of the year.  7/10

5. Otep - Kult 45

Idk, I've been an Otep fan for years, so I almost feel obligated to include it even though it wasn't great lol. It was just one big "fuck Trump" album, which, while nice and necessary, got kind of old halfway through. A non-stop political album was just... boring? 5/10

Honorable mention:  Myrkur - Juniper

It's been such a slow year that I'm adding a 2 track ep with only one track I care about lol. 5/10 since I only give a shit about half of the ep

Not necessarily favorites, but here are some decent albums I enjoyed.

Bring Me The Horizons new album AMO is questionable to most but I genuinely love it. I can always appreciate bands switching up their sound, so long as at least half the album is still good. Some songs hit me in the fucking feeeels like in the dark and I don't know what to say. I love heavy metal and medicine.

Within Temptations RESIST album is great too. I think I prefer the singles of the album but I love Holy Ground so much. Only one I'm not too keen on is The Reckoning still hahaha
