Fluorine 162 Posted October 4, 2012 Does anyone else like this duo? "Shrines" is definitely in my top 5 albums of 2012 --- it's such a gorgeously constructed little masterpiece. I loved it from the first listen, but it just keeps getting better and better every time I play it. It's sweet yet sinister, with layered production that seems to creak and drip. Here's one of the singles: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ETbGpGJNVLM And here's a (somewhat shitty) video I took at their show in Minneapolis, so you can see the custom instruments they use: http://s7.photobucket.com/albums/y286/i_am_subversive/?action=view¤t=PurityRingConcert9-14-12002.mp4 1 Quote iamamiwhoami ▲ purity ring ▲ jessie ware ▲ grimes ▲ twin shadow
Madrigal 2,616 Posted October 4, 2012 What are their 5 best songs? Their free song on iTunes, "Fineshrine," was INCREDIBLE!!!!!!, but I couldn't get into anything else when I tried.
Fluorine 162 Posted October 4, 2012 My personal favorites (not including "Fineshrine") are "Saltkin," "Cartographist," "Obedear," "Belispeak," and "Crawlersout," but the album works best when you can listen to the whole thing in one go. It doesn't really work as background music. 0 Quote iamamiwhoami ▲ purity ring ▲ jessie ware ▲ grimes ▲ twin shadow
teethclick 898 Posted October 4, 2012 I have "Shrines" on vinyl, but the only song I really listen to is "Ungirthed". Have to check them out again. 0 Quote last.fm
Madrigal 2,616 Posted December 7, 2012 They're really incredible. I've been obsessed with "Fineshrine" since I got it free from iTunes, and (sadly) am only just now getting really into their stuff. I'm obsessed with their perfect bleeps and bloops!!!! Like you said, Fluorine, the album works best as one listen--like Pitchfork said, it's a work that builds upon itself.
Arzi 1,982 Posted December 7, 2012 I had been listening to Lofticries months ago, but I didn't like their album at all
Immy's bitch 34 Posted December 15, 2012 Love this album so much! I was a little disappointed at first that not every song was as catchy and upbeat as Ungirthed but the whole thing is just amazing
Madrigal 2,616 Posted February 15, 2013 Love this album so much! I was a little disappointed at first that not every song was as catchy and upbeat as Ungirthed but the whole thing is just amazing I know - "Ungirthed" and "Fineshrine" are the best, but only because they're so happy sounding. I have gotten used to the rest of it though, and I can now gladly proclaim that I am a Purity Ring fan!!!! If I was to condense the album into a five song EP, though, I know exactly which songs I would choose: Fineshrine Ungirthed Saltkin Belispeak Shuck I love "Crawlersout," "Amenamy," and "Obedear" almost as much as these five, but they're just not as awesome. Not to mention that their cover of "Grammy" is easily on par with the best songs from the record! I hope they release more covers...I'm interested to hear more of their R&B side.
Quadrophenia 81 Posted February 17, 2013 I FUCKING LOVE PURITY RING, I just got tickets to their show in Denver
Deleted User 1,353 Posted February 27, 2013 I fucking love them THAT much that I've shipped their album (it costed REALLY expensive since I live in Argentina) but I just LOVE them... I've known them since they released belispeak and I just fell in love. I love the fact that there's almost no info on them on the web, I love how they produce and write, I love her singing, I just... LOVE them entirely...Specially the light cocoon tree thing they percute during their shows...Their album is blissful masterpiece.
Quadrophenia 81 Posted April 9, 2013 I just saw them live in Denver last night, It was the fucking best concert I've been to so far, also met them afterwards and for as creepy/mysterious as their lyrics are they were super nice and awkward, Megan was the funniest person and they both actually signed my friends speeding ticket we got on the way to Denver after she was done cussing out the cops for us, she also put FTP on the ticket.

Hundred Dollar Bill 21,804 Posted July 17, 2013 I RANDOMLY FOUND THEM ON ITUNES A FEW WEEKS AGO AND BOUGHT THEIR ALBUM AND SHUCK IS ONE OF THE BEST SONGS I'VE EVER HEARD.
Madrigal 2,616 Posted July 17, 2013 I RANDOMLY FOUND THEM ON ITUNES A FEW WEEKS AGO AND BOUGHT THEIR ALBUM AND SHUCK IS ONE OF THE BEST SONGS I'VE EVER HEARD. Yay!!! I absolutely love that band, and now there's someone else to talk about their perfection with. I've already said that "Fineshrine" is my favourite song of all time, but the little vocals of "Shuck" are so qute...such a weird song, though.

But Shuck... the melody kills me. The way everything flows together, and when the bass comes in it's just so massive and consuming. I get goosebumps almost every time I listen to it. My second favorite is either Saltkin or Lofticries. Then Fineshrine, and Amenamy after that! It's honestly one of the best albums I've ever listened to, Shrines. I've never come across an album that's such a solid work all throughout. I definitely have favorites and least favorites, but even the ones I don't love I still like.

Yeah, I can say honestly I love every track. "Cartographist" and "Grandloves" can drag at times, but everything else is perfect. "Saltkin" and "Ungirthed" are so incredible, almost as good as "Fineshrine". The bridge on the former is in and of itself one of my favourite bridges ever, and the lyrics of the latter are so bizarre/creepy. but Megan's voice makes them sound adorable. "Belispeak" and "Obedear" are so dark, but they always go hand in hand in my mind...and then there's "Lofticries", which isn't bad by a long shot. Bill, have you heard their cover of "Grammy"? It's so good, when they put it up for download on their site it crashed, because the server couldn't handle all the downloads.

I'm not sure why.. But yes! Yes I have. I actually heard it for the first time last night. I was listening to Shuck and I wondered if there was a PR thread here, which led me to Grammy & Belispeak II! Grammy is really great - Megan's voice is so flawless when she raps it. Lol. Omg are we going to be the only two people driving this thread though. I tried looking for unreleased tracks the other night but I only found stuff mentioned in live performances, which I rarely ever have the patience to watch.
