The song is cute and basic its basically exactly what a "Charli XCX does a colab with Sam Smith to get on the radio" needs to sound like.

 

I flinched when Sam first came on only because his glaringly loud high pitch note at the beginning is so jarring compared to Charli's whisper singing in the beginning of the track.

Later in the track when they layer each other's vocals it actually fits well.

 

Honestly I agree with this being a production problem and Welcome To My Island remix was fun for how different it was from the original but I hope this kind of production doesnt bog down the album. Everything involving A G so far with this 'era' has sounded phenomenal.

Very much this. When I groaned about the collab several pages back, this is what I was envisioning and exactly what ended up happening - Charli's voice lately has been much deeper, more sultry, more gritty. Sam's is higher, if not operatic at times, and when they came on I winced because it was so SHARP it knocked me out of the song. Their voice is just very, very high.

When they were harmonizing together it was totally fine though.

I think this song is cuteeee, Sam’s voice is nice on it. Sadly, I don’t think the radio is going to eat it up (will happily accept being wrong) but it’s a nice song to add to both of their discographies.

I do. And I can hear what was done with who. It sounds like a demo that Charli made with George, was sent to AG to help with some percussion here and there plus the outro fx. The generic bass drop is very George.
