I honestly felt this way on the first listen but I realise the lyrics, for the most part, aren't bad, they're just fresh and something we haven't had from Lana. It can take a couple listens to come around to

How is Off TO The races good lyrically? I mean they're surely tumblr-quote ready and god knows this place is filled with tumblrers but I wouldn't call them exactly good. What an overrated sing when it's really awful

 

Love, Heroin and Get Free are her best songs ever. Feel much more genuine than anything she's done before and they're just better in general. If you disagree you're stoopid and ugly

Off To The Races was lyrically fresh when it came out. Nobody else had ever done retro lyrics with reference to Lolita, Harlots AND kept the theme consistent. This helped the song age like fine wine

One complaint I do have about the album has nothing to do with the music - I've seen a lot of CD packaging (inc the booklet, etc), and the CD packaging for LfL is honestly one of the lowest effort I've seen in a while. Some packages such as Radiohead's AMSP honesty are beautiful, with debossed text and gorgeous art all over the booklet and the gatefold. I would expect more considering how much of a perfectionist Lana seems to be. The back cover of the booklet is the exact same as the back cover of the jewel case, the ONLY lyrics are riddled with mistakes that are so obvious they are inexcusable, the CD is an extremely basic single colour, and it just doesn't seem as if any sort of artistic effort has been put into the packaging.

I'm LIVING for how we were trashing Tomorrow Never Came (due to its feature) and Get Free (due to its "stupid title") before the album's release, but now we're dying over them lmao.
