She did COCC, Blue Banisters, violets bents, I think she had her time to do what she should and wanted to do, and I don't think she needs more than that for her to find herself, she already found herself and this album is a response, we know this isnt similar to her past 5 years works so wbk 3 Quote
West Coast Posted Thursday at 09:17 PM Posted Thursday at 09:17 PM The song is fine, it's not mindblowing or anything, the best part is obviously the instrumentals. There's a bit of recency bias going on with the overwhelmingly positive response, and that's normal. Let's say that it's not her promotional single with the most oomph, but I wasn't expecting that to begin with. I don't think I'll listen to it ad nauseam before the album gets out, but looking forward to hearing it in that context. 10 Quote

rosemead ramada Posted Thursday at 09:30 PM Posted Thursday at 09:30 PM I'm so happy to finally have new Lana buuuuuuut I'm a bit underwhelmed to be honest. I hope it grows on me. Usually I listen to a new Lana song on repeat like 150x in a row but I don't think this one will get that treatment Also I can't understand like 80% of what she's even singing after the first verse... is it just me or 4 Quote

Pico Ocean Boulevard Posted Thursday at 09:59 PM Posted Thursday at 09:59 PM Ngl I am gagged I love Henry Spoiler Like many of us I did not expect this type of production at all!! I am shook. This song is so gorgeous, beautiful and lush. The strings are definitely a highlight for me , they are absolutely gorgeous and send me straight to heaven and overall I love the production, the harp (I was wishing for this for ages), the twangy guitar, the jazz piano etc. I also LOVE the lyrics , the cute little spoken word part and ngl the soft leather mention gagged me as well!! Henry definitely surprised and gagged me in that way!! And honestly it's on repeat, it may not be my favorite Lana song of all time but goddamn it's such a beautiful and grandeur song, it's amazing Also a bit random but I spontaneously traveled to the sea side earlier this week and today was my last day and I am so happy Henry came in just in time. The song definitely has more country vibes but listening to a very good brandnew Lana song at one of my favorite places at the seaside was beyond beautiful regardless 9 Quote "Swan Song. It’s on my album Honeymoon. It’s the antithesis of hopefulness. It’s about trying to find beauty in giving up. If I had my way, I would continue to persist in all areas of my life, but it can be quite challenging because I can be too trusting too soon."
longtimeman Posted Thursday at 09:59 PM Posted Thursday at 09:59 PM I woke up at 4am and listened twice to the song, and I didn't really get it. After a few more hours sleep and listening to it a few more times, I'm loving it. It's not earth shattering like some of the lead singles in Lana's history are, but it's going to be a big spinner here. I haven't explored the lyrics very much, but I'm enjoying the takes from people here. I'm definitely biased because not only am I a Lana obsessive, I've also been crazy about alt country for over thirty years, and as part of that genre, the song makes a lot of sense. I really look forward to hearing it in the context of the album. 9 Quote
Make me your Dream Life Posted Thursday at 10:00 PM Posted Thursday at 10:00 PM the horn/ strings around the last part of the chorus where she brings it home "heard you were the one to hold the hand of the one that flies to close to the sun"s just absolutely classic and already timeless. the multiple meaning of cowgirl alluding to herself, another woman he might've been cheating with the bridge lowkey shading him as being a manwhore regardless, which hey sex is great but if you're committed, fidelity, communication etc. (lowkey just gives me brokeback vibes from that view) the disappointment in the chorus, it's giving well fuck, and fuck this, vibes. I feel like some Christian women can really have a lot of patience, and can be really beautiful souls, maybe in diff religions as well, didn't grow up in that but. they actually hold a lot and maybe it's that expectation from the forgiveness part that causes them to stay in the not so best situations bc of wanting to keep those ideals, but really we're only human. so i'm hoping at least in the song, that she's giving that she's over it and realizes that she's more than that and is capable of being so much more, but can act/ be through it. the complexities of being with someone and then having to separate and everything that that means. the uniqueness and honestly just genuine and simple phrasing and natural inflection carrying and just flowing just shows her mastery, and goes so well with the production. it's like she's just playing but it's this really beautiful thought that probably just came out effortlessly. the strings whisking you away, while the piano bringing it back to earth as well. it's absolutely gorgeous, holds a lot, without being overbearing. it's a smart song and sounds matter of fact that just adds to how simpler can still be very much more effective and just straightforward. 14 Quote
