Adjusting syllables is actually something very common within music, and imo is completely fine. Take Katy Perry's "unconditional" and how Lana pronounces diamonds in some songs (with 3 syllables)

eh was her production peak bc she had a really high budget and could express her vision to the maximum. this came with a bunch of downsides too, tho, as it was when she felt the most "constrained" and it's understandable: the more the industry gives you, the more the industry expects from you. I feel like TFJ and FROOT were equally good eras, bc in some way o another she still made up for it: TFj had iconic imagery and beautiful melodies, and it's when she was the most genuine and "relatable" (I don't value relatability but a lot of people do, so). FROOT had probably her best visuals, I loved the fact that the cover was kind of an acknowledgement to her gay fans and at the same time felt a lot like a trip to the 80s (Kate Bush teas). The single covers were amazing and the color palettes... like she invented colors. rainbow who? light who? spectrum who? radiation WHO??? Eh had peak production, great storytelling (mainly visual) and iconic songs. like all her eras were carefully crafted and they all have something iconic to them that you can instantly recognise.

when i look at F+L I find it really hard to do so.

the cover is ugly, she looks like a giraffe on crack and the b&w color pattern doesn't help. also, it's not a recurrent theme, the b&w, it's limited to the cover and HH, while during the past eras there was always a recurrent element that made everything make sense with the rest.

Superstar cover is... a cropped picture. slay i guess?

the songs are cute, they are not bad songs and i can bop to them i guess (apart from superstar. thats bad), but it just feels deeply underwhelming. like if any other artist came up with this id be like: ok sis nice outfit. but this has no creative vision. none. at all. when you look at the project from afar, what do you see?

when i look at TFJ from afar i see a young, #relatable, talented girl with high expectations and a desperate need to prove other people wrong. shes cute and makes bops and occasional social commentary. work merna!

when i look at EH I see a slightly older, more mature, very dissatisfied, talented singer who wants to completely turn her career around and explore how women have been socialised in the american society. she employs a rich, bubblegum production and incredible visuals. ICONIC STORYTELLING. slay

when i look at FROOT I see a mature, happy, peaceful talented singer who feels satisfied with what she has and no longer craves for fame. she's living her life and beefing with charli XCX on twitter bc that's literally her worst problem. she has found what she had been looking for in herself, not in others, and wants to express this feeling to the rest of the world with a more intimate production, a better outlook on the word and at times iconic lyricism. her visuals are on fleek. kate bush WHO?? 

 

when i look at F+L i see nothing. i see some nice songs, a nice production and a nice cover. but that's it. i dont feel like she had a creative vision. i dont feel like she had something to tell. and not every artist has to, but it's what set marina apart. her vision. the way she always put herself in what she did
