Also, wishing rape on someone isn't okay, ever. I know people can feel a lot of anger in situations like this, but we can't support victims while wishing something that horrible on others. Wish for them to lose their hair or their Hot Pockets are always too cold...  but don't take our pain and wish it unto others. It trivializes it. It makes a joke out of it. I don't know if you read the actual account. But Melanie did not "flirt her way" to intercourse. She coerced Timothy who repeated again and again that she didn't want to, made excuses to turn Melanie away. She was not sexually interested in Melanie and has reiterated that. 
This was not a flirtatious fling. Melanie took advantage of her unwilling friend. What you're doing right now is called victim blaming.

It's not about not realizing what was happening. When shit like this happens, your body can betray you and leave you defenseless, confused, etc. Even if Timothy didn't push her away at the moment it doesn't mean she gave consent and that she's happy with it. It was a crime. End of story.

I think something some people are neglecting to mention is that a lack of response may not have sprung out from paralyzing fear. If Timothy’s account is correct then she was probably mentally and physically exhausted. As she puts it, she just wanted it to end. So relenting to Melanie may have seemed like her only option at that point in order to finally get some peace. But we shouldn’t forget that harassing someone to the point of relenting is NOT consent.

I can see that most of you prob never went through a traumatic situation since you aren't able to understand what does "state of shock" means. The last time something really bad happened to me/someone else I wasn't even able to cry or talk at the moment, I was just standing in the middle of the room when "the bad thing" happened.

Not everyone will have this response though. Personally I would probably lay there, scared out of my mind. I wouldn't have the guts to fight.

IF Timothy didn't say no, there are many possibilities why:
 
- Afraid she'd disappoint Melanie
- Scared about what Melanie would do if she tried to fight her off
- Paralyzed with fear
- Confused as to what was happening
- Staying quiet while at the same time trying to comprehend why her best friend would do such a thing etc.

Even if they go to court and Melanie isn't charged, it doesn't mean she's innocent. I was raped, took it to court, and nothing happened to my rapist because he is wealthy and I didn't have " enough proof"
