Honeymoon - Pre-Release and Discussion Thread
Leo replied to ilovetati's topic in Retired Pre-Release Threads
Just so you know, I didn't mean to criticize you (or anybody else for that matter) for speculating about whether or not she might have some mental illness. I was just opposing the idea that she needs to speak openly about it if she does. And yes, I meant that she shouldn't book shows or other events if she isn't feeling well enough to go through with them. Mental illness or not, that's just really rude and selfish regardless. -

Well not really, if she has some sort of mental illness it's nobody else's business imo. However, she shouldn't make promises she can't keep. -
Lanaboards Third Annual Ultimate Song Ranking Contest (the redo)
Leo replied to YUNGATA's topic in Latest News
Checked the thread from 2012. Back then we had "only" 86 songs to choose from (and we were still whining over how hard it was ). Now, approximately 2 years later, that number has grown to almost 200. Gives you perspective on how privileged this fanbase is, even though it may sometimes seem like ages between interesting news/events. Also, we had 54 votes last year. Only 18 now? Come on people don't be so lazy -

"Life Is Beautiful" - Soundtrack for The Age of Adaline
Leo replied to Trash Magic's topic in New Releases
If you like this teaser and are tired of people who "complain", I recommend you to skip the rest of this post. I've hated all of her soundtrack songs (except OUAD) and it seems this one won't be an exception. They all sound uninspired somehow, like she wasn't motivated at all while writing them. Not sure how to explain it but... Well, many artists claim that their best songs were the easiest ones to write, like those songs almost seemed to write themselves. I guess what actually happens in those cases is that their inspiration is strong enough to somehow block most inner obstacles like stress, negativity and self-criticism, making the songwriting seem self-acting. I always imagine Off to the Races being that kind of song for Lana, it's so complicted and so "all over the place" but it still flows perfectly, she must have been fucking high on inspiration while writing that song! Whatever... My point is that, to me, her soundtrack songs sound like the opposite of what I was trying to explain in the mess above. They sound like the result of trying very hard to write epic songs with little or no inspiration. In one word: unimaginative. -

Will the upvotes and downvotes be counted separately? I'd like that, because otherwise people are gonna use the upvotes/downvotes on songs they consider underrated/overrated instead of the songs they actually like/dislike most, making the results less accurate. -

Kim Gordon of Sonic Youth criticizes Lana in memoir
Leo replied to Deleted User's topic in Latest News
Kim makes a perfect example of why you should never shout your opinions for everyone to hear before getting your facts straight . I sincerely hope that most people will see through this misinformed, ignorant rant, but I fear they won't. Lana is a pretty complicated and sometimes self-contradictory person, so if you're not a fan I imagine it's not easy to separate right from wrong when it comes to everything that's said about her. It doesn't help that Lana often makes clumsy comments in interviews. It's sad because Lana really doesn't deserve the amount of public hate she's recieved through the years and keeps recieving, and I think we can all agree on that she doesn't seem like the kind of person who can easily "shake it off" *Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood ominously plays in the background* -
Are y'all over her by now? If not, I've found working downloads for all 4 of her EPs, so let me know if you want them.

So what are your opinions on the album so far? I like it more than I thought I would a month ago, but a little less than I thought three months ago. My favorite release is still That Iron Taste but this one comes in a close second. Her music seem to be less easily accessible for each release though, so maybe this album is more of a grower than TIT (unfortunate acronym ). At this moment: Monday Afternoon>Drown>Animal Fear>Before I Sleep>In Words>New Year>Let Me In>Ophelia>Claude's Girl>Open Wide>Skin>Undone, Undress

Do you guys still have this problem? I found a download where the songs don't cut off, pm me if you need it
-
Just bought the album and listened to the whole thing. I loved it And "Monday Afternoon" is "Here I Lie" Should've seen that one coming @@Rebel have you tried this one: http://www.newestalbum.com/2015-albums/1853-marika-hackman-we-slept-at-last-2015.html No idea if it's good but it "seems" fine to me
-
"In Words" Haven't listened to it yet, in fact I stopped listening to these new tracks long ago. Don't know why she shares them one at a time before the release like this, I get the feeling that these songs will grow a lot when listened to on the album in full. Also, I don't want to spoil that special feeling of excitement when finally getting to listen to an album you've really longed for for the first time. The wait is almost over now

Thanks! There is no deluxe on swedish itunes though And that link doesn't work for me, are there any new songs on the deluxe or just the old ones?

Can somebody tell me anything about the site "Renowned for Sound"? Are their reviews usually accurate? (I checked and they praised both btd and uv). They have posted an almost ridiculously positive review of "We Slept At Last": http://renownedforsound.com/index.php/album-review-marika-hackman-we-slept-at-last/ Is this really true? Where did you get this information?

Finally I watched Swedish Idol 2005-2010 and she was one of my absolute favorites from those years. I remember thinking that this girl will go very far. She wasn't the best singer, but definitly the one who was most star material out of all contestants during the seasons I watched. This performance is a good example of that: She's also the only public person I've ever been in love with I really like what I've heard from her new stuff so far. Apparently she had some difficult years after Idol, but it seems she's now back in full strength I'll be following this with interest.

The Guardian interview, with a (not that subtle) hipstery touch: http://www.theguardian.com/music/2015/jan/25/marika-hackman-interview-we-slept-at-last-laura-marling Love that she got inspiration from the opening credit of "True Detective", the only opening credit in a tv show I never wanted to skip besides the one in "Twin Peaks".

Fourth song from the upcoming album: Ophelia Am I the only one who's not really feeling this style she seems to be going for? The three songs we've heard besides "Drown" so far are nice and all, but they all lack something to make them stand out imo
-
The soundcloud links in the op seems fine to me, they don't work for you?
-
Same! Only a little more than 5 weeks left Starting to agree with you on Bath Is Black, it has grown on me more than I thought it would. Marika seems to agree as well, I remember her saying somewhere that Bath Is Black is the only song from her previous work that she thought was good enough to be put on a debut album, or something like that. So hopefully the upcoming album is filled with songs as good as Bath Is Black!

Probably my favorite album ever. Yayo, Kill Kill, Pawn Shop Blues and Put Me In a Movie are perhaps my top 4 Lana songs. I think all songs on the album are absolutely fantastic, except maybe For K Pt. 2 which in my opinion is "only" good.

I know, but she clearly has considered it for an album title as well. It was a joke btw, i'll keep stanning even if she names the album "Music to suck dick to" -
