So she seems to sacrifice her musical carreer for the sake of the entire "Poppy project" (= making generic pop music to mock generic, dumb pop stars)...

Geez this whole "Itunes NZ" talk ... those few hours before the album will drop in your own country does not really make that much difference when we waited for so long

Yes! I hope we'll get some cool merch this time, I didn't like the Endless Summer shirts and not the current ones in her webshop either... Please let it be some cool and wearable shirts.
    This. The truth, it burns.

I hope for it's demo version to leak one day just to see how better it sounds without Weeknd's voice & Max Martin's assistance.

I think she meant something really huge like a world war. (And you never know what her exact words were since it's an interview translated from English to German (and back).)

I don't hate it, but I was hoping for something more so I guess I'm a tiny bit disappointed. The pictures are great, but the perfect booklet, for me, would include the lyrics for the songs with some cool pictures or illustrations surrounding them... and more pictures of Lana. And, if possible, some cool architecture and flowers, but we already got that.I love to read the lyrics while listening to the songs the first time... it's just you, the music and the lyrics. It's nice. And I don't really get the gas station theme either (maybe it reminds her of her days as a child during their car trips? Keeps the "always on the road" image?) although I have to admit that that station looks really cool in the pictures.
But yeah, I suppose I'm spoiled by Krug's amazing photographies which creates a special feeling... but I actually like Chuck's photos too, I think she's great. The editorial pictures she's done look good.
    Ok, I'll stop here.

Edit: And I REALLY hope that error in the Love lyrics won't be there in the physical booklet!!

This would have been such a good cover. Signature stare , signature vehicle in the background but with a different pose to change it up a bit . DAMN .

It's actually crazy and bizzare how much the artistic direction of this album changed ... It went from this crazy witchy/space/futureretro vibe with Lana as a hologram to this 60s/70s aesthetic? I would have loved to have listened to the album around the time the trailer was released, I feel like the music may have been so different and amazing.

Maybe they were a bit scared to do something so different with Lana, so they changed the aesthetic to one that was familiar to Lana and her image?

As a former copy editor and proof reader the "Back to work or GO the coffee shop" error in the booklet is killing me.  It's not difficult to avoid small mistakes like these. I guess it's not a huge deal, just messy.

CatchTheBreeze sent me this interview, I'm not good with translation so please tell me if something doesn't make sense/ sounds off and I'll change it. I think there is some pretty interesting information on Change.

"I've got more fun in life now"
5 years ago shooting star Lana Del Rey amazed and enchanted the world of music with her debut album. On July 21 her fourth record will be released. Which's title is program.

I: Mrs Del Rey, your debut record five years ago was called "Born To Die", the new one is called "Lust For Life". Are these album titles documenting where you were standing in your life during the respective time?

LDR: Yes, I've developed in a quite good way, considering my overall feeling of happiness.I am still on the way and growth and chaos will keep me company through my life. But nonetheless I can clearly feel the change. I've got more fun in life than years ago.

I: Is your new song "Change" about this transformation?

LDR: Exactly. "Change" is the last song I wrote for this album. The four words I sing during the chorus are basically saying everything: honest, able, beautiful and stable. That's how I want to be. My whole life is defined by this quest, the quest to belong somewhere, to be part of something. I progressed a lot on this path.

I: How do you know that?

LDR: Because of my behaviour. And the way I deal with people.I've become a lot more relaxed and open-minded. I'msurely more self-assured aswell. In the beginning, I was very afraid, I did not know what people expected from me.I was under heavy surveillance, I lived under a cover everyone wanted to peak under.

    I: Why?

LDR: The people were a lot more wary of me than with a lot of other artists. "Video Games", my first single, was very polarizing. I still don't really know why though. Because of that, I had the feeling that I was present in the world of music, but not really a part of it for a long time. By now I'm not afraid to approach people. It's no coincidence I invited a lot of other musicians to be on my new record.

I: Like Fleetwood Mac's Stevie Nicks, who's joining you on "Beautiful People, Beautiful Problems"

LDR: Stevie is a friend of my producer Rick Nowels. She's so great, I'd call her a friend by now. Stevie's been doing music for 50 years now, she#s been around in the 70s, she's seen everything. One could be jealous. The Eagles, Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young - this whole sound of that time, I love it to death. Since I ive in L.A., I've been looking for other artists - other people - who feel the same.

I: Did you already got to know a lot of 60s- and 70s-pop fans?

LDR: The funny thing is, I've built a fantastic circle of friends in L.A, who all share this passion. Father John Misty and his wife Emma Tillman belong to those friends. Or Miles Kane and Alex Turner, the two boys from The Last Shadow Puppets. We're some sort of small folk-community. We spread this Laurel-Canyon-vibe I like a lot.

I: Sean Lennon's on the record aswell, participating on the track "Tomorrow Never Came". How did that happen?

LDR: I'm talking about my ideal relationship on that song. The song is one of the few on this album that's now about me. I use John Lennon and Yoko Ono as an example. I imagine the two of them, sitting on a bank in Central Park intimately, this couple prompts romantic feelings for me. So it immediatly suggested itself to ask Sean, since I also really like his music. And he immediatly told me he'd be there.

I: When was the last time you danced on the "H" of the Hollywood sign in Los Angeles , naked, like you discribe it in the duet "Lust For Life" with Abel Tesfaye alias The Weeknd?

LDR: (laughs) Never, that's pretty high! You can't just reach it with a ladder. But there are some pretty cool cafés and the Beachwood Canyon, which has some beautiful, hidden corners.

I: Your voice and The Weeknd's voice go together perfectly by the way.

LDR: Thanks. Our chemistry's right. Abel was one of the first to post the clip for "Video Games" in 2011. I've contacted him and we became friends.

I: a few weeks ago, you've revealed you put a witch-curse on Donald Trump. Did it work?

LDR: (laughs) I don't know. Everything we see of him now is the same as it was during the voting campaigns. He's actually continuing to be the same. Because of that, I'm afraid the curse hasn't worked yet. I'd really wish for a peaceful, chill time, that's what I talk about on the track "Coachella - Woodstock In My Mind" for example. Where did it go, the golden hippie-age? Instead there are threatening scenarios and Trump keeps on adding fuel to the fire. He said some things, women should be afraid of. I just hope nothing bad happens within the next three-and-a-half years.

Btw Lana is mentioned on the frontpage of the german local newspaper "Neue Westfälische" (Bielefeld) and there's an interview with her inside – get that promo, Lana! I don't recognize the interview (it's by a guy called Steffen Rüth) so I don't lnow if it's really a completely new one... If anyone's interested I can post the (german) text. Unfortunately it can't be found online.

It's fascinating how each of Lana's albums sound completely different from the last, yet she the retains her classic signature sound and each album is individually cohesive.

Somewhere between 66-75, Hoping for a good 72 though.
She already admitted that she thinks its "lack of cohesiveness" or whatever might not make it a critically acclaimed record, but she's gotten over it, its for us so we shouldn't care either.

I get its a "cute" novelty but cassette sound quality is fucking horrible. The only people buying that shit are pretentious hipsters.
  24. CatchTheBreeze liked a post in a topic by BluVelvUnderground in Snippets are letting us know that Lana's albums are still concept, and this one is really thought-out.
I originally posted this in the Pre-Release thread, but thought it'd get more attention here. Wanna explain something I happened to notice while checking out the snippets.

I honestly think "Love" was meant to set the mood for the album overall. It has the guitar, but it has the "wall of sound" hip-hop to it, as well. And then, from "Lust for Life" to "Coachella", it really is like a stretch of sexy, summer-driven hip-hop tracks and ends on a positive track that is political - and then, we get all the guitars, and the veteran folk singers (or related to them) rather than the contemporary artists that feature in the first half. I think it's very intentional that the last half is going to have a Woodstock-vibe, only through some of the familiar hip-hop additions that modernize classic sounds. "Tomorrow Never Came" sounds very 1967-71 rock. Definitely see where she's connecting the "two generations", and why she probably feels kids looking into vintage music may find it denser if they understand that history is sort of repeating itself through the anxiety of the current political American heat. It's exactly what she said she wanted to do with the album, and her chronology of the tracks seems to really suit that concept. Even at around the half-point of the album, if you count "Love" as just the intro/combination of the two sounds, and "Coachella" the track that moves the hip-hop into its poltical, folk-driven side.

Lana still doing concept, for sure.

    A SORT OF CHART (lol):

INTRODUCTION (folk guitar strings open the album, but blends into spacey, "wall-to-wall" hip-hop noises)
    01. Love

    SEXY, SUMMER-Y, HIP-HOP (7 "wall-to-wall" hip-hop noises)
    02. Lust for Life
    03. 13 Beaches
    04. Cherry
    05. White Mustang
    06. Summer Bummer
    07. Groupie Love
    08. In My Feelings

THE BRIDGE (a more stripped back hip-hop beat, letting the album kind of cool off a bit before getting more poltically-minded)
    09. Coachella..

POLITICAL "GANGSTA" FOLKY-Y (7 "wall-to-wall" hip-hop noises, but more laid back, with heavier guitar and folk featured artists)
    10. God Bless America..
    11. When the War Was at War...
    12. Beautiful People, Beautiful Problems
    13. Tomorrow Never Came
    14. Heroin
    15. Change
    16. Get Free

It's like she takes us from "Coachella" to "Woodstock" by using that track as a bridge. As I predicted, the song works in concept of the album; but releasing it as a single is bizarre. From what we have in the snippets, this album seems to be very well-thought out.
