Tropico named 2nd biggest flop of 2013 by VH1
PennCentralFan replied to Foolish's topic in Awards & Nominations
I don't know how you measure flop? But being on a list with Justin Timberlake and Lady Gaga puts her with good company. My guess is that when you are big enough to be on a flop list you have made it. So she has made it. This is really no big deal. Actors sometimes make movies that don't live up to the expectations of others and it's no big deal. I like Tropico but my preference would have been for her to release three videos for the songs instead but I love Tropic none the less. Considering that it is a 27 minute short film or extended video these things are not very commercial anyways. I just hope she didn't lose too much money on this. lol. -
Yes I love Never Let Me Go and Every Man Gets His Wish. I also find Angels Forever Forever Angeles and JFK as haunting beautiful songs that deserve to be released. Other favorite songs include Afraid, On Our Way, and Hawaiian Tropic.

Minor General Questions that Don't Deserve Their Own Thread
PennCentralFan replied to Monicker's topic in Lana Thoughts
Is he one of the gangster/robbers in the film? The scene where they rob the men. Is he also featured in the Gods and Monsters and part in the film? -
There could be a family member or ancester with that last name. Or a family member or family friend with that as a first or last name.

Is "Beyoncé" just a big rip-off of Lana Del Rey?
PennCentralFan replied to evilentity's topic in Lana Thoughts
I agree with your assessment. Lana is very influencial among other artists. Miley has covered her song, Taylor Swift and Ke$ha have clearly been inspired by Lana. But Beyonce is completely copying Lana. This is needs to hit the blogosphere and mainstream media. -
Ultraviolence - Pre-Release Thread
PennCentralFan replied to lflflflflflflflflflf's topic in Retired Pre-Release Threads
I would not put too much into the album title as a clue to the sound or type of music. My guess we'll see a black beauty EP style album but that is a guess. I also think we'll get more 60s pop like Queen of Disaster and Never Let Me Go or On Our Way. Does Dark Side of Moon give any clues to the type of music on the album? I don't think Destroyer was destructive by KISS. -

I'm hoping for AFFA and JFK and Never Let Me Go. -
I like the cover of her dressed like the Virgin Mary.

I liked it. It's the ultimate complement to Lana that Miley covered it. I really don't think Miley has an overly nasal sound to her voice.
-
Cool. A good mixture of Roman Catholicism and Americana.

Who is the daddy? Not judging just curious.

I am glad to be entertaining to you.

Well, this is a forum devoted to Lana Del Rey and the posts should be about her and how awesome she is. She is the best musician on Earth right now I would say. But as far as religion goes, I would say that a key to understanding Lana's lyrics and imagery is knowing something about Roman Catholicism. You can say the same for Lady Gaga and Madonna. I feel bad for those of you who cannot appreciate or did not appreciate Catholic School girls gone bad. LOL.

Lizzy in old Lake Placid area newspapers
PennCentralFan replied to evilentity's topic in Lana Thoughts
The point is that Lana does not come from a family that has a disproportionate amount of social and financial power and is not what most people would call high-status. Sure she comes from money but her family worked pretty hard for it. Plus WASPy people don't live in trailer parks in New Jersey follow some guy to the South and work as a cocktail waitress and attend Fordham which is a Jesuit school in New York and is not a WASPy institution and it does not sponsor Fraternities and Sororities which are mainstays of WASPy culture. I am not the one who doesn't understand. You don't understand what and who WASPs are and what it means to be WASPy. -

I don't know why some of you have a problem with me objecting to the term WASP. One her lifestyle was in fact very middle class even though she comes from some money she did some very normal things that millions of girls like her (catholic, middle- to upper-class) did. The WASPy thing in my opinion is a mistake. For example wealthy Catholics like Paris Hilton and the Kennedy family did a lot of the same things as many middle-class Catholic families in the US. But the Kennedy's and the Hiltons are not WASPs. Saying she did WASPy things is incorrect especially within the US context where WASP means Protestant Upper-Class. And the things she did as a child and so on is very common for millions of middle-class kids in the US as well. WASPy implies values and a world-view that is not shared by non-WASPs in the US. -

Yeah, but someone who is Catholic is not a WASP by any means. Some Roman Catholics may find the term insulting. I am not saying she would, but some Catholics would take offense at being called a WASP or being WASPy as early in the country's history and well into the 1960s Catholics were discriminated against. JFK was and is a big deal to some Catholics still.. -

She is not a WASP by any measure. The P stands for Protestant. -

That's awesome. Her religious background is pretty much normal for Roman Catholic kids who went to Catholic Schools. As one of them myself it's pretty normal. Also the Birthright charity is not necessarilty anti-abortion or anti-choice. It's mostly about providing services and aid and money and baby clothes and things for young mothers who need them. -
This is a Lana Del Rey forum and not the place to sing the praises of others unless Lana likes them. Lana is Roman Catholic by the way. Someday there will be a news report on live television where you will see them cut open the side of a hotel where Adele has been living Howard Hughes like so they can get a forklift to take her out on a pallet and send her to the hospital.
-
Adele is on her way to morbid obesity. I expect a Mama Cass ending for her. But seriously, this is a Lana Del Rey forum. If you want to sing the praises of Britney--who I like, Lady Gaga--who I like, and others this isn't really the place for it. I like Lana a million times better than any other female singer and entertainer right now and I pretty much like all the rest even Miley and Taylor and Ke$sha and all the rest, but this is a forum for Lana Del Rey and as a follower of her when she disses someone else I diss someone else.
-
This is a forum dedicated to Lana Del Rey so I would expect and want and need posts supportive of Lana and her songs. I agree with Lana's sentiments exactly in So Legit.

I love the look. Classic American casual. Blue jeans, white shirt, cardigan and baseball cap. Be young, be dope, be proud like an American. She looks so huggable in this Fall weather.

Let's hope she helps to keep Turkey secular. LOL.
