Norman Fucking Rockwell - Pre-Release Thread

I’m not one of those people who dislike hip-hop Lana. Ridin and Summer Bummer are two of my favorite songs. I think Lana and Rocky make a great team. I’ve secretly thought it would be cool if they worked together more in the future and put out a little mixtape of just collabs by the two of them. -

Hearing OTTR being hated on is interesting. I haven't really heard much talk of it to begin with, either positive or negative. I'd say it's my favorite song (well, one of them) from BTD. I love how it's trashy and cutesy at the same time. I checked out some of MGK's songs and I think his music sounds crappy. However, I'm going to remain positive whatever the outcome is here, that things will be ok and NFR will be good. Lana has never disappointed me. I like all of her albums and every song on them. I don't think there's any song I truly dislike, besides maybe 2 or 3 unreleased songs I don't care for much mostly due to bad demo quality. I have faith in Lana that she's going to make this work. For example, I don't like The Weekend's music but the LFL title track still worked out well. Although it is my least favorite song on LFL.... and at least The Weekend is more tolerable than MGK. But I won't trash talk until things are confirmed and I've heard the whole song. -

Ah, I can see that now. lmao. Yes, Jay Park has maintained such a youthful appearance. He's already in his 30s. Those asian genetics as they say... -

That's the observation I made. Jay Park is one of the few tatted, edgy, hipsterish looking guys I can think up of immediately that I find HOT! A guy like that and Lana together would look so -

Yeah he's not ugly. I'm just not into his style. I can see him being Lana's type though.. -

I'm thirsty because of Cinnamon. I love the snippets so far. I just have this feeling that it's going to be one of her best songs. I kind of wish I remained uninformed about NFR as I did with LFL. The anticipation for NFR is making me so impatient. -

I actually was interested in a Wiz Khalifa collab. Changed my mind now. Agree on the no collabs comment. -
I think NFR is gonna rank up around my top 3 also.

Katy Perry - She became boring to me after Prism. Everything I've heard after Prism has been awful imo. I love One Of The Boys, Teenage Dream, her unreleased songs from the scrapped 2005-2007 album and those Matrix collabs. Even her christian album sounded good although I don't care for the message. Miley Cyrus - I liked her up until Bangerz. The Bangerz era was cringey and had some awful songs. I don't follow her anymore, though I did kind of like the song "Malibu. Avril Lavigne - I was obsessed when I was 10-13 years old. I lost interest in her after that. Looking back, I think that sk8er tomboy wannabe punk thing was cringey and her music really wasn't that good. I got bored the last time I revisited the first two albums. Tried listening to some of the stuff after The Best Damn Thing but I couldn't get into it. Slipknot - They were my favorite band for a while when I was 12/13. I find them boring and mediocre now. The Casualties - One of the first punk bands I heard. I have not kept up with them after the rape incident involving the lead vocalist. Very predictable streetpunk. No loss there. There's plenty of other bands in that genre that sound alike or better. As for Melanie Martinez, I still listen to her music, but I feel weird fully supporting her after the incident that came out last year. Tatu is another group I liked. Didn't know about Yulia's comment until now. Wow.

Lust For Life Ultraviolence Honeymoon Born To Die AKA Sirens Paradise LFL and UV are my personal top favorites. I couldn’t really make up my mind on how to place BTD and HM. BTD is a classic, the most popular, what introduced me and a lot of people to Lana. But Honeymoon was genius. I know Paradise is an extension of BTD but I usually count it apart from the original BTD album.

Moments/memories of your life involving Lana's music

My husband really likes the unreleased song "Girl That Got Away". He doesn't really understand the meaning (English is not his first language so sometimes he can't understand some slang or pick up lyrics quick enough), but he thinks it sounds cute and happy and he used to ask me to play it over again. On the other hand he can't stand "Dance For Money" because of her faux southern voice and the crappy-ish recording quality. He would ask me to change the song and is all joking like "what the hell is this?!?!" haha. I play Lana's music quite often when I'm driving so I'm sure he's heard the entire collection by now. Listening to "Elvis" and "White Pontiac Heaven" on a cloudy somewhat rainy day in my small hometown. The weather and the acoustic sound went perfectly together. "Summer Bummer", "Cherry", and the early "Lolita" version that was more pop/rock sounding are some of the songs I like to play when I pole dance. So those songs will probably always remind me of dancing. The whole Lust For Life album is my soundtrack for late 2017 up until now. I've been through a lot these past 2 years since I moved. I'm glad LFL was there for me to listen to during both my happy and not so happy moments. -

I thought being fat meant the obvious big tire of a belly, sausage arms, being several pounds overweight. But I've noticed the definition of what is "fat" varies from person to person. It's odd. I've heard some people unironically think that the "big booty thicc" type of girls are fat even if they have flat stomachs. I understand those people have different tastes, but being a dress size or two bigger than Taylor Swift or Miranda Kerr doesn't mean one is fat. Lana has never looked big/fat/overweight at all. -
Yes! I think it was better than the other tracks on "I Am Me" to be honest.

I really like her voice. Shame she wasn't taken seriously after the SNL incident and because of the wannabe punk thing she had going on (then again that might have been on the label trying to create a new Avril). "Better Off", "Undiscovered", "Pieces of me", and "Love makes the world go round" are pretty songs, and "Fall In Love With Me" (bonus track from I Am Me) is so nice it's underrated. \ I don't really care for Evan's voice in these new songs. But Ashlee still sounds great.

"Get Free" being the last track was perfect for ending the album! It sounds a little bit sad, but optimistic and positive, leaving the past behind and ready to move on. I'm curious what the upcoming album holds, since I think MAC and VB sound like they're picking up where LFL ended with that folk/rock sound. "Heroin" is one that I personally felt for during that awful time I went through. Wanting to find peace (the song sounds calm and soothing overall) but just having so much pent up anger and feeling hopeless (when she's screaming towards the end of the song). "Coachella", "Beautiful People Beautiful Problems", "Summer Bummer", "God Bless America (And All The Beautiful Women In It)", "Love", "In My Feelings", and "Cherry" were the songs that mostly cheered me up. -

Last month it was Religion, Heroin, and Swan Song. Currently it's Venice Bitch, and Summer Bummer because I've been playing it while I dance. -

Damn, everyone seems to have all this hate for LFL. I feel like the odd one out here for being in love with this album. I can understand why it put off many fans though. She stepped out of the bubble of that "old-movie-star-lounge-singer-sad-girl" we know her for. The folk, hip hop, and the political topics threw many people off because it wasn't expected coming from her. I myself didn't love LFL from the beginning. Definitely took a couple more back and forth listens for it to grow on me. I wasn't excited when I first heard the title track because I don't really like The Weekend, and that was the only song I had heard before the album came out (I haven't been active on forums so I'm not immediately up to date like everyone else on here). I went to buy the cd anyways just because I'm a fangirl, but I didn't expect it to be my favorite. At first listen I was like "Meh, sure it's good, I mean...it's Lana, but I'm not wow-ing". Over time it really grew on me and became my favorite album of hers so far. I actually liked her attempt at writing about societal/political topics, and the 70s folk inspired songs that were the last half of the album. It has some very beautiful songs (White Mustang, Cherry, 13 Beaches, Summer Bummer, Coachella, When The World Was At War, Beautiful People, Tomorrow Never Came, Heroin, Change, Get Free). LFL came out the year I moved to LA and got married. I was also listening to it on repeat around the holidays during a stressful time when things weren't so happy. This album was the soundtrack to a new chapter in my life, and it was there to comfort me. So part of my reason for this album being my favorite is personal. -

It's just the guitar parts. Besides that I don't get the UV vibes either. -

Sounds like the collabs with Stevie Nicks and Sean in LFL have rubbed off on her, judging by that soft folk/rock sound. I could imagine Stevie singing MAC. Ever since UV, every album released afterward has sounded like a continuation of the previous. I'm still not over LFL, but I am definitley looking forward to NFR.
