you know it's funny you mention that, bc we NEVER got more pics from that shoot that i know of either. i forgot it existed until i saw it the other day on tumblr. you're right, another problem is she's not always the cover so unless it's posted somewhere you can completely miss her in the pages of a mag.

oh god first things first mean girls is NOT a cult movie. it was a critical and commercial hit and has a very widespread fanbase, which is pretty much the polar opposite of a film with cult status like heathers or jawbreaker. secondly, she's definitely talented and to say she hasn't done more than disney movies and mean girls shows a lack of ability to access imdb tbh.

i know! i really wish i had kept up over the last few years. i used to have the issue of interview she was in the first time and it got thrown away such an iconic photo of her too: as well as the first issue of nylon she appeared in. beat will be the first of her covers that i own. maybe i'll start considering collecting if i can find reasonably priced copies of stuff.
-
the quality is bad but here's the only other pic from NT that seems to have hit the web so far i am debating ordering it off ebay or something, i am waiting for my copy of her issue of beat magazine, but intl mags can be a killer if you don't find them in domestic shops

lol this is just silliness every great voice bums a note now and then, it doesn't detract from their talent/standing as a vocal giant in the industry

i definitely don't think ryan is mediocre, but you are of course entitled to your opinion. i for one found his performance in the place beyond the pines to be great. i didn't think he was trying to be edgy, in fact i felt that he did a great job of providing depth to a character who superficially would probably not be expected to have any. luke was king of his little part of the world and became overwhelmed when the harsh realities of the external infiltrated that. i can see why you say that about the robbery scenes, what with how high his voice got and all that. i don't think we're supposed to be convinced by him as a criminal but rather simply a man quickly finding himself in over his head. how people who have seen that performance can say luke is driver 2.0 is beyond me. i happen to think he's quite versatile and has proven himself a fine actor. but again, different strokes. we're totally on the same page about kirsten and sofia, on the other hand. i think kirsten always rises to the occasion and she does great work even in bad films (idk if you've seen bachelorette but i was only able to stomach it bc of her). so many people dislike her and it seems completely irrational to me, i think she's lovely. i agree with you on all counts re: sofia. i'm an aspiring screenwriter/director myself and the virgin suicides will definitely be in my on-set binder for aesthetic inspiration. if you haven't i would highly recommend watching the work of michelangelo antonioni. he was a direct inspiration for sofia when making lost in translation and he has been a favorite director of mine for some time now. his trilogy of films l'avventura, la notte, and l'eclisse are essentials, and i think you'll appreciate them as an admirer of sofia's work ^_^ i'm going to try and compile a list of my favorite films/films that influence me and i'll share it when i'm done - i've been meaning to do it for some time so this is a good push! ps, i just changed my avatar when i came into this post and saw you linked the don jon trailer - i can't wait to see it!

thank you for reminding me, both

can't believe i haven't been in this post yet! scrolled through your list of films seen this year, op, glad to see someone else watches as many as i do :3 we've both seen a few of the same films for the first time this year. glad to see someone else had a pos opinion of the paperboy bc generally it gets ripped apart, i thought it was pretty great tho and a nice refreshing film among a lot of the shit that runs together being released. buffalo '66 is amazing. get the feeling you're maybe not a big ryan gosling fan, which would def find us on diff sides of the aisle, but glad we can agree kirsten was amazing in all good things... that film deserves a lot more attn than it did, and she deserves a lot more credit than she does. the more i look at this list it's crazy how many movies we've both seen in common this year, and for the most part i agree with your ratings altho i use letterboxd and score 1-5 stars going off netflix's star ratings (1 being hated it, 5 being loved it). also love sofia coppola. still have to watch somewhere and marie antoinette but i think she's fantastic. ugh it makes me so happy to see other ppl passionate about film sorry for rambling on and on :3 i'd love to talk films/recs if you ever are interested so feel free to message me or something! we can compare notes lol i never get to do so irl ps ita about caesar and cleopatra, one of my favorite vivien films. also the roman spring of mrs stone is great too and seems to get overlooked next to her more iconic roles. sorry again for all the text/being weird!

thanks for answering! i'll check them out. i'm very nervous about gummo from all that i've read about it. i can handle a lot of things and have forced myself to develop a strong stomach as a film studies major/enthusiast in general, but the bit about the kittens really puts me off pressing play on it.

idk straight male taste is pretty awful which is ironic lol -
i adore them, i think jamie is an amazing producer. i'd love it if lana worked with him but that's just me. coexist was my album late summer/early fall of last year.

i hope i didn't make you feel uncomfortable sharing your opinion, i certainly did not intend that <3 i just was unclear on what you meant. you are entitled to your opinion and even if i do not agree w it i respect that!

omg!! my pants are slightly diff bc they have an elastic at the ankles, which i kinda prefer tbh, but honestly i'd rock the shirt even if it is a bit femme 8) i miss her bewildered-by-the-crowds-at-the-chateau fashions.
-
can we make this happen imo 8)

not to start a debate, but how does changing her pitch one way or the other = self-degredation/anti-feminism? i've never understood the criticism (not yours specifically, i should clarify) that lana is anti-feminist/problematic bc she favors imagery that hearkens back to the 50s/60s, sings about being submissive/taken care of by a man in relationships, etc. i can't recall her ever singing that that's how women should be... she's her own woman and she owns her choices/kinks/etc. which i respect. unless there are diff specific examples i'm not thinking of idgi :/
