LANALYSIS: Relating Songs To Known/Assumed Relationships
Valentino replied to Sitar's topic in Lana Thoughts
Holy smokes. Every time I think Lanalysis is like, over, it just crawls back out of the dead with some head-spinning new info. Like, how many real life people have been confirmed now? Bill Jimmy Gnecco Arthur Lynn Reeve Carney (?) Mike Mizrahi Josh Steve Merten Mr. H Mikey Rob Barrie Francesco Some of these weren't relationships but they're still important to understanding her songs. And then there's people we don't even know about, like: "record executive" the "guy who ran an underground electronics business" the "guru/cult leader" K I tried to attempt a timeline of all the men we knew about last time but there's just too much info now, wow. And somebody got her property records? We really need to collaborate somewhere on updating that opening post... It's 6 years old and it still has Jimmy Gnecco as a potential relationship when we now know he not only wasn't a relationship, but probably not even the subject of that many songs. So... is Born To Die about multiple people? She said Video Games was about Josh, but then Dark Paradise might be about Rob. What about Blue Jeans, which is supposed to be in a "trilogy" with Video Games/Born To Die (did we ever get receipts for this)? Are Body Electric and Bel-Air also about Rob? Some of UV seems to be about Barrie (Is This Happiness), but Cruel World is very mysterious, and Ultraviolence is about that "guru." Who or what is Terrence? -

Minor General Questions that Don't Deserve Their Own Thread
Valentino replied to Monicker's topic in Lana Thoughts
Is there a timeline on when and where Lana used her stage names? I'm writing a big post about her and part of it is connected to how her music changed from her 2005-2007/8 days to 2008-2011. Roughly speaking, it seems she went by Lizzy Grant (alongside other names that didn't get much use like that Sparkle Jump Rope Queen one) from 2005-2008, and around 2007-8 she got the idea for Lana Del Rey and started developing that. By the time she got signed (?) she was working with different producers and trying to develop the Lana image more. Her pure pop songs all seem to be from 2008-2011 and, tbh, don't sound really like the rest of her stuff. Are there any sources about her working with producers, or if they tried to mold her into a certain type of artist? Really if anyone has some sort of history of her recording career that would be splendid because I'm having a hard time finding sources for this stuff. -
I don't think she's uncovering a conspiracy (what is the conspiracy even) as much as commenting on the things she saw. She's talked about "sleeping with the boss" in an interview before. The casting couch, unfortunately, is not a new phenomenon. I think she's interested in "new politicians" (influencers) like criminals and celebrities. National Anthem bridge is another one that talks about the "new age" and celebrity (sixth page). For the most part she doesn't seem to pass judgment on it; she either observes it or even participates in it in song (Hit and Run, FMWUTTT, PMIAM). It's kind of dark, but she's been referencing these themes for a long time (also, violence has been one too... that makes me really sad).

Same!! But ABBA is very strict about using their music for sampling so I doubt it.

I never imagined when I first heard "You (Ha Ha Ha)" four years ago that I would be hanging out on Lanaboards waiting for Charli's album to leak and painstakingly arranging my library to make sense, lol. Anyway, after remembering that "I Wanna Be With U" and "Party 4 U" were contenders for XCX3, I decided to put together a theoretical tracklist for XCX3. I'm imagining that, like Melodrama and hopeless fountain kingdom ( ) this is a concept album based around the idea of a party. Speaking of which, isn't it crazy there would have been three albums released this year centering around parties? And all three artists have spoken about the importance of parties in their lives? And Charli knows both of them? Hmmmmm. Anyway the first half is kind of the fun boppy songs (except Down Like Whoa), with the middle of the album being Charli waiting for this guy to show up because "she only threw this party for him," and then we get into the sad (Die For, Can You Hear Me) or sonically dark songs (Waterfall, I Wanna Be With U). After a triumphant final attempt to get through to this gentleman (Can You Hear Me) she decides to just have an after-afterparty where instead of falling in love with a guy, she falls in love with the world. Because what's more beautiful than that sense of world peace and love for one's man caused by being totally drunk? We're all in love!!! Come to my Party - Charli is both starting the party and inviting the listener to hang with her. This song is a bop and a half, should have been a lead single, so makes sense to frontload it like this. Good Girls Bounce Down Like Whoa - This is a dark song so it should have been in the second half but (a) I didn't want to depress everyone by having a second half full of downers and (b) it flows super well into No Angel, lol No Angel Girls Night Out - he's still not here, so she's having fun with her girls instead Party 4 U - Homegirl is sad and upset; from here we enter the 'dark' portion of the album Die For - she considers that her cheating on him and ignoring him have actually only served to worsen their relationship and desperately begs for him not to leave her Waterfall I Wanna Be With U Queen Lizzy Can You Hear Me - a final 'happy-sounding' song before the encore, to lift the mood a little After the Afterparty (SOPHIE or single version, depending on how much you can stomach Discord Quality) - We don't know if he heard her, but she's ready to move on and embrace the people who have been with her - her girls, her fellow party-goers, the world. "We're all in love." We end on the euphoria of a party. Also it's nice because the album starts with a robotic voice saying 'X-C-X'/namedropping herself and now we have Charli herself saying 'X-X-X-C-X Charli' I know we're all over XCX3 because it's been like 3 months since it leaked but I still think about it all the time and what the finished version might be called so if anyone else wants to discuss tracklists, fan-made album covers, titles (where did 'XCX Girl in an XCX World' come from?) please @ me.

Warner seems to suck, Neon Hitch also had trouble getting her album out with them. Charli is so screwed, any momentum she's ever had is gone. :/ I can't believe she had I Love It and Boom Clap and Fancy and the label totally failed to capitalize on these huge hits. On the bright side the GP still kinda remembers her name. I told my boyfriend I was seeing Halsey because Charli was the opening act and he was like "wait, are you sure it's not the other way around? Charli's more famous." He's not a pophead at all, either. She may still have some "oh, THAT girl!" reactions left if they let her reLEASE HER MUSIC What should I do if I wanna meet Charli? Wait after her act? After the entire show? I've never tried to meet an artist before, I have no idea how this works x.x

I listened to TKO the other day and I have been converted. It sounds like a Vroom Vroom outtake. Incredible. I need all PC Music related stuff to leak. Just finish leaking the whole album (and Exchange tracks and HQ CTMP). I feel there's no way Charli is gonna release any of this stuff, both because it's been leaked and because it's been like months since she recorded it. She got over Sucker so quickly. I hope she proves me wrong and surprise releases XCX World tomorrow , but I think messy stans is the only way we're getting anything. :/

Wasn't there speculation about this in the Lanalysis thread since 2012? Obviously we didn't know these allegations yet but I know someone was claiming the Harvey was a real person. I really hope the media isn't gonna try to paint her as the villain for this song. But I also hope they don't speculate on whether she was a victim. We know she's sensitive about what they say about her. We don't know what happened (if anything happened) and probably never will, and maybe it's for the best. I hope she doesn't feel forced to comment on this. This is honestly one of the worst potential Lanalysis discoveries because the implications are potentially horrendous. Ugh. Also, it very clearly says "Harvey." There's a 'v' sound that cannot be explained at all by "ah he's". Her lyrics books are notoriously bad, and since when is Genius a credible source on lyrics? I've seen plenty of incorrect lyrics on there because afaik they're fan submitted.

Who records these songs from Discord? I heard from someone it's possible to mute the notification sound. If that's the case, couldn't someone mute the notification sound before recording the track? Or are the notification sounds appearing on the leakers end? Anyway Discord ruined leaks, all we've gotten is snippets and bad quality stuff while making the leaks an even more exclusive process. The process of leaks used to be fun, if slow, and now it's just really boring. I'd rather bring back Charlatan Xbox on Churchcloud. All I know is if No Angel leaks in Discord Quality I'm going to scream

YES ughhhhhhhh If anyone could let me know where it could be found, that'd be great

Did the Sophie version of ATAP ever leak in full?
-
I just listened to the Sophie demo of ATAP and. Um. Can this please leak? Can No Angel leak first? Can all of Charli's SOPHIE/A.G. collaborations leak? Charli/PCMusic is my musical vibe right now. Also Boys will not be on my XCX3 master playlist because it just kinda sucks. I'm sorry but the hook is sooo weak. No amount of promo or topless boys can prop up that flop chorus.

This sounds really cool! Gonna try it out and burn it to CD if I like it so I can pretend I'm listening to XCX3. I can't find an email for Atlanric records but y'all should let them know (politely ) about how much you'd totally buy XCX3.
