  1. March seems reasonable. She’s doing Stagecoach in April, which is probably the boldest “country” move she could make. So I can’t see the album still not being out before she does that.
  2. Well, I don’t think abortion is a moral issue. It’s a healthcare issue. And that’s fundamentally the division that exists between people who are in support of abortion being a right versus abortion not being a right. So, clearly, there’s not middle ground at the baseline level.
  3. In her defence, she’s just bringing up a valid talking point that corresponds to the conversation you’re trying to initiate — which, by the way, I understand and can appreciate. I don’t think there’s as much middle ground, honestly, as many conservative value systems maintain the idea of pro-life and so advocate for and champion the delegitimization of abortion as a right. It certainly persists, even if people are not abrasive in their approach. And anecdotally speaking, people let their beliefs slip in everyday conversation, so I do think there is a lot of division on the issue that also stems from sacred versus secular schools of thought (the former obviously having a large overlap with conservatism - but that’s a whole other conversation). Oh I definitely agree, don’t get me wrong. I just think it’s less covert now than maybe it used to be.
  4. I honestly think mainstream Republicanism has now developed into a new subset of “Trumpianism” where the latter is gaining more traction than what Republicanism might have used to be. The last Republican in office was Trump, so it’s not hard to see why the phrase “conservative” has invariably evoked Trumpian ideology when proudly worn in popular culture (I’m thinking of a lot of conservative women influencers like Blaire White, HRH Collection, Alex Clark from Poplitics, Hannah Pearl Davis, and of course the many people who are part of PragerU). In the last 4 years I have been stunned at the prevalence of it—especially post-pandemic and post-January 6—and I will truly be shocked if America reverts back.
  5. Also - I recognize that’s her Gucci bag with her name embossed inside, which she showed off on Instagram in 2018
  6. This is ridiculous and I love it. Sorry Lana </3. Also Jonathan Wilson (2016) and Joe Schilling (2018) could be added - K - 5 Josh Kemp - 5 Reeve Carney - 5 Arthur Lynn - 5 Steven Mertens - 5 Mike Mizrahi - 5 Barrie James O-Neill - 7 Francesco Carrozzini - 4 G-Eazy - 0 - OUT Chase Stogel - 6 Clayton Johnson - 5 Mike Hermosa - 11 Evan Winiker - 5 Jack Donoghue - 12
  7. I don’t think it’s a coincidence that she changed her tour intro to the Tropico score + visuals and opened with Body Electric in Paris. This, along with the “Has Anyone Else Died For You?” sign, points to a strong religious motif that evokes the Southern Gothic subgenre. And I think the song that she debuted at Fenway (“Past, Present, Future”) has a few eerie elements like the descending chord progression, ominous spoken word verse, and banshee-like layered vocals that remind me of the supernatural (hence, it’s the voodoo, Mississippi south). From a purely aesthetic standpoint, as well, her penchant for black veils this year (Skims campaign, Coachella weekend 2, Rock en Seine) fits in.
  8. When I came up with the title 3 years ago I was referencing what Lana and Sean said about their joint homes in an Instagram caption. It’s a portmanteau of California and Oklahoma. The girls that get it get it…
  9. I think this is related though, like now that country has been embraced in the mainstream, it’s almost as if she’s hesitant to call it country without any added descriptors such as “songbook style” or “Americana” or “Southern Gothic” because of how it may be received otherwise. I don’t think that means she wouldn’t have known the album’s content as you say, but rather that some additions/revisions have been made since then and that’s why we haven’t had any news of a release yet.
  10. Regardless of the fake insider, I do think the album direction has changed since the fall of 2023. It seemed while on tour in September/October, she was leaning more into a traditional country sound (even evidenced by her fashion choices on tour) but now it’s evolved into something a bit different and less stark in one direction. That would explain her hesitance around where Lasso would be going as a “country” album and also how she recently described the new songs as having a “Southern Gothic twist” to Vogue and added a “Southern Gothic” story highlight. That wasn’t a phrase she was using before recently. Her 2024 stage looks, references to bayous and the photos by Wyatt Spain Winfrey in May, new boyfriend (lol), and recent focus on Tropico as an introduction at the shows (especially with references to Jesus, her singing Body Electric, etc.) suggest a slightly new direction. It’s amazing to kind of infer how she works on albums in real time.
  11. The look was so 90s/2000s! She really pulls off that classic supermodel look which we haven’t seen from her that often. Can’t wait for tonight. Does anyone have a recording of yesterday’s stream? Looking at you Queen @ImenaOphelia
  12. Not that it’s necessarily indicative of anything, but Lana’s bio on Spotify has been cleared - wondering if it’s about to be updated to reflect some new release(s)? Typically artist bios include their most recent works so that may be something to keep an eye on.
  13. Are we forgetting she literally dropped the pre-order for Lust for Life 9 days before it came out - anything could happen
  14. This album actually changed my life and means so much to me…I’ll love it forever. Also the era I joined this site which is fun! Happy birthday 🌼🍒🪐💫🪽
  15. This song sounded very girl-group, 60s-esque to me and upon further research, I realized that The Shangri-Las had a song titled “Past, Present & Future”. Lana revealed in 2019 that some of her early work with Jack before they settled on a direction for NFR was similar to the LFL title track and she referred to it as “hip-hop girl-group” - so I wonder if this song was borne out of those early 2018 sessions and was revisited/reworked more recently for Lasso.
  16. Adding to the discourse…I think it’s fun and both lyrically and sonically does a lot to build the thematic and atmospheric world that Lana could very well be going for on a country album. It’s a heavily stylized track, which is a nice breath from the cathartic, dense, and wordy output of the last few records——which was very intellectual, profound, and beautiful, and bore some of her best work ever, and I’d love to hear some of that with a country flair on Lasso——but as she herself said, it sounds like she’s now in a more melodic place where the emphasis is on the sound and style than any detailed lyrical exploration. Hence, a genre as specific and motif-driven as country makes perfect sense for her to dive into fully now.
  17. Speeding down the highway on this sunny day and playing the song on loop..yup. Gonna be number 1 on my Spotify Wrapped for sure
  18. The quality of the video and the way she stuns in the light remind me so much of those 2017 Neil Krug pictures of her in the black dress on her balcony. Like a southern gothic twist on her witchy schtick
  19. Lana linking up with her exes for songs is kind of a girlboss move…breaking hearts and cheques, I know that’s right
  20. It’s really a perfect mix between country and hip-hop - the marriage of genres here feels so natural that I could see it being a centrepiece on Lasso, just to be that one signature upbeat song she typically features on each album. The visuals are too akin to Lana for the song to not be on her album. And I hope that heavenly yet still earthy bridge is indicative of the soundscape for the rest of the album
  21. I don’t think the September date means anything, necessarily, other than about the production time - a lot of her 7 inch vinyl releases had release dates way in advance. Candy Necklace had a fall release date even though it was available to order in the summer.
  22. I love it so much. The video is really setting the tone nicely for a country album from Lana - she looks gorgeous and they complement each other well!
