Lana Del Rey Officially Announces TROPICO, "Coming to a City Near You"
sukiedelrey replied to Sitar's topic in New Releases
I thought it was going to be really campy and laughable....but this is fucking amazing. Like, I was expecting to cringe at the kitschness, but Tropico is going to be a masterpiece. The whole apocalyptic creepy gangsta concept is perfect. -
I really don't care about Miley--nothing against her or whatever. But this sounds like a nasally inclined 12-year-old girl's shrieky cover posted to tumblr. Maybe it just didn't suit Miley lyrically or vocally, idk, because she does have some good songs.

420 songs but many of them are live, and I have 31 remixes too.
-
While any new music would be rad....when they sang Video Games together at that show in 2011, the resulting vocal "harmony" sounded fucking terrible. On their own, their sound is great--but Woodkid's kind of deep monotone singing style didn't sound good with Lana's voice.

I thought National Anthem went like, "keeps me safe with his belt, time will tell..." And of course "love you more than those pictures before."
-
I think Lana shops at Goodwill tbh (me too). That peasant blouse is looking....unique. Also, weren't there pictures of her with an iPhone in France? Maybe the blackberry's for business idk

Unreleased songs you want Lana to rework/release
sukiedelrey replied to Hundred Dollar Bill's topic in Lana Thoughts
While You and Me is already the epitome of perfection, I honestly just want more versions. A stripped-down acoustic, an acapella track, a version with a bigger orchestra, a BTD-esque version where the trip-hop beats are more prominent, any number of ratchet dubstep remixes--A HQ LIVE VERSION, like Nirvana on MTV Unplugged way back. I just....need more. Why she left her most brilliant song in the dust is beyond me, but I guess that's just Lizzy and her team being ignorant. -
I am obsessed with You and Me. It resonates with me so personally and emotionally. I'm actually thinking about getting "give heaven a try" on my wrist as my first tattoo.

"Summertime Sadness" - Next Single in the US, July 2nd
sukiedelrey replied to Kimi Rose's topic in New Releases
I just heard it on my local radio in DC! Can't believe she's ~playing on the radio~ here in America, on a top pop station even. Also heard Y&B in Target. -
Lana Del Rey Shooting New Short Film, "Tropico"
sukiedelrey replied to TIARNZUS's topic in New Releases
THANK YOU. People need to cut this "a real, healthy, normal woman" shit out. How about a ~real woman~ is a human being that identifies as female--not a number on the scale or "sexy curves" or "huge thigh gap." By saying only people with more body fat are normal you're minimalizing naturally thin people; by saying only skinny people can be healthy you're insulting people with a naturally larger weight/shape who are doing just fine, tyvm. Body shaming in any form isn't o-fucking-kay or harmless or funny, as proved by the thousands of deaths globally (across all cultures, ages, and gender identities) from eating disorders. On a more on-topic note, I need those red shoes in my life. Any help from the more fashion-aware people? I suppose I'll have to check the Lana clothes threads. And I--like everyone else--am hopelessly excited for whatever this new video is. -

sukiedelrey replied to sweetlana's topic in New Interviews
I think it's a tenuous thing to diagnose a person from afar, but I think Lana definitely has some problems that are coming across in this interview. I've had a lifelong problem with depression and various chemical substances, but I can only imagine being barely recovered and then having this barrage of hate and scrutiny directed at you. It would be enough to change anyone for the worse. Personally I'm not offended by her mood, seeing as I have social anxiety myself and can come across as angry and awkward and aloof, but rather by what she's saying--essentially ignorant elitism and just pure bullshit. My main point is, I feel like if you have a degree in something, you should be able to talk about it. If she spent four whole years studying philosophy, I feel like she should be able to better articulate its ideas and seem aware/passionate/interested in questions regarding it. Her quotes about religion/philosophy seem underdeveloped at best and immature and misunderstanding at worst. She seems to fumble in talking about the topics that supposedly influenced her growing up and music so much--nihilism, hedonism, free will, spirituality, fate--which should be very intimate and familiar to her. Remember that cringe-worthy interview where she defined metaphysics as "mathematically proving the reality of god"?? Maybe she was too high on ~methamphetamines~ through college to pay attention to the thing she was majoring in. It's certainly a difficult thing to reconcile the stupidly hateful Lana in recent interviews with the Lana who kisses her crying fans and the Lana who wrote the sheer brilliance that is "You and Me." I suppose that's the real topic of philosophy here: human nature, having so many facets and quirks and flaws and rapid changes. Lana's only human--but a different person to everyone she meets, apparently. -
1. Velvet Crowbar - it's an amazingly raw, emotional look at two different kinds of addiction: chemicals and relationships. I feel like it leaked and people forgot about it, but it really speaks to me personally. Her vocals on the last chorus are gritty, animalistic perfection and the instrumentation is classic and bluesy. It really just displays a stunning maturity and a wealth of experiences that people tend to overlook whilst mocking some of her more mundane, pop-tailored work. 2. Playing Dangerous - can't defend this one lyrically (or the wretched Last Tango in Paris jazz sample), but somehow her vocals on the "I'm in love again" part are irresistible. 3. Last Girl on Earth - Cleopatra, Caesar, cherry cola and cigarettes. What more could you ask for? 4. The demo of "For K Part 2," also called "Rehab" - the strings in the beginning give me shivers, and the repetition of "c'mon" is so moving. Finally, "you won't hear no" is one of her most brilliantly understated lyrics. Just think about it. 5. YOU AND ME - it's the sonic equivalent of looking at hazy Polaroids whilst shooting up. PERFECTION.

1) You and Me 2) You and Me 3) You and Me 4) You and Me 5) You and Me 6) You and Me 7) You and Me 8) You and Me 9) You and Me Bonus track: sorrynotsorry That song should have been on BTD. It is perfection in every sense, sheer genius in its production, stunning in its vocals--just the swelling orchestra and the wails and undgwkhjdhdka I want to marry it sonically, visually, thematically and musically. It needs to be released and seriously I would sell my soul to hear it live.

I love it, even though I wasn't expecting to. The music, the vocals, everything. This is killing me: Dear Lord, when I get to heaven, Please let me bring my man. When he comes, tell me that you’ll let him in, Father, tell me if you can. The only part I don't like is the next lyrics: All that grace, all that body, All that face, makes me wanna party. He’s my sun, he makes me shine, Like diamonds. Like, the emotion and the imagery of the last stanza and then...the trite "makes me wanna party" and the awkward "like diahmends." Idk, I adore it but that part just irks me.

Lana Del Rey and Barrie James O'Neill Duet: "SUMMER WINE"
sukiedelrey replied to Hundred Dollar Bill's topic in New Releases
Lana and Barrie should do an encore with this at their next show. #notgonnahappenbcshehatesencores -
watch her start picking up an English accent randomly like Madonna and getting mocked for it because it's not authentic enough for the haters She looks so beautiful though, maybe she's gotten a new stylist or the old one has gotten it together?

Lana Del Rey performs at Soho House in New York
sukiedelrey replied to TrailerParkDarling's topic in Latest News
What I really miss is the samples/backing track, bass and drums from her early performances. I really love the variety of her catalogue and the trip-hop side to her music so I'm not so enchanted with these cabaret shows with the same 5 songs. But she looks beautiful as ever and I'm still in awe of how she even manages to get up on stage with her anxiety/amount of people judging her. -
She looks so much younger without all those pounds of black hair! I like the new color, kind of dark brown maroon? And she's so perfect when she smiles.
-
She looks like she's having a panic attack with the breathing in the beginning. But I love her hair and makeup *swoon*
-
I guess she's hired the 12.9 year-old hipsters on tumblr to design her single covers now. But then again I wasn't really expecting more after the SS and NA covers.
