Lust For Life - Post-Release Discussion Thread + Poll
GeminiLanaFan replied to Elle's topic in Post-Release Threads
It doesn't deserve all the backlash it receives here. I said it before, and many times, but although I loooovveee HM, we needed something a bit more diverse for her next project. Many here listen to the demos of the songs and wish LFL sounded like that: I'm sorry, but it would have been a «toned down» HM, which would have bored the rest of the world. -
And IMO, JK Rowling is way worse than Lana, because she meant what she said and did no misapp in her writing...

Those are all valid arguments and it’s true that the world sure don’t seem very stable at the moment and anything can change. But I can’t imagine her dropping a date without having consulted with Interscope first. As for other Interscope artists releasing this year, Dua and Gaga aren’t in the same register as Lana and are spaced enough not to change anything. And maybe these hard times with bare minimum for release are what she always wanted. And as for Adele, she will have a number one no matter when she releases her new album. Plus: everyone is expecting her new album for last two years now and she is still not releasing it, so music execs can’t go forever putting projects on hold because Adele might drop it (by the way: how lucky are we, as fans? Since Adele’s 25, Lana released HM, LFL, NFR and will probably release COCC before the rumoured « 30 »).

I still can’t understand to this day why she teased that one: did she think we wouldn’t harass her for that one until the end of time? Maybe the snippet game would work if she teased 30 seconds of each song the day the album is released? Anyways, there’ll surely be an obscure retail site that will leak a preview of the album a week before and Interscope will still send copies early and one fucker will leak it anyways.

White Hot Forever was « too obvious » for a Lana title, just like Honeymoon was. It’s the kind of title that has no surprise whatsoever, as if it was « expected » from her. Paradise, also, doesn’t have that wow factor I got when first announced: Ultraviolence was shocking; Norman Fucking Rockwell was surprising and so Americana; Chemtrails over the Country Club, though more fitting for a poetry book maybe, is mysterious, and has a duality in it that I really like. I’m curious for the sound and lyrics of the title track (can’t see why there wouldn’t be one), same as I was when she first mentioned Mariners Apartment Complex.

NFR wasn’t supposed to have any covers, until she changed her mind with Doin’ Time (and let’s be honest: it didn’t hurt NFR’s numbers to have that one included), so maybe COCC doesn’t have any either? I’m curious about the song they recorded together last year, if it fits COCC’s sound and is a good song, ok. But wasn’t it intended for his scrapped record? He is releasing a new album in July, but it’s more punk than what he usually does, so I wonder what will happen to that collab, if we’ll hear that one some day.

I love her selfies these days. It’s the most natural she looked in a long time and she is gorgeous. And it reflects how we all are at the moment: au naturel.

If « If This is The End I want a boyfriend » made it to the album, it would be wise to get that song out « fast », in the next months. Not sure if « quarantine songs » would be à propos in 2021, if the world doesn’t live a second wave of the pandemic. I was skeptical too of an album in 2020, but when she announces a precise release date, I’m inclined to believe it’s happening (I know, I got clown makeup all over my face).

I agree with 100%. The « political songs » from LFL were more peace-oriented than really politic. And you can pretty much always see them in another (and more personal) light. The same could be true with COCC if there are any songs mentioning the current state of the world. LFA wasn’t that precise either.

It’s 90 days to allow physical releases as well. Could she release it digitally first, then have physical copies made a couple of weeks after, like Beyoncé did with her last albums? If so, she could rework COCC a bit (not sure it’s a good thing though) with the recent events. If she chose to have physical copies released later on, the leaks sure would be harder to get this time lol.

I don’t even think that the social media storm surrounding her is that big, honestly. In the national media, artists in general don’t weigh that much at the moment, and we’re talking about one celebrity who is being unfairly « torn down » on Twitter (told y’a: no matter what she posts, they tear her down). The fandoms will calm down. And honestly, this speaks tons: to focus on one celebrity when the picture is clearly bigger is a fucking waste of time and speaks tons about those people’s motivations on the matter. (Not talking about any of us here, but of the other fandoms that attack her).

I agree with you. She’s « ignorant » (as I am, honestly) probably because the POC around her are mainly musicians (from what we see in her socials) and « made it ». It’s easy to think that the world is exactly the same as your entourage, we all fall into that trap.

Hey, no problem, I am very much «wordy» myself

That is a very thought-out answer, thank you!

Well, she is vocal when it comes to what matters to her (her version of feminism, mass shooting involving children). I'm not saying that the racial persecution doesn't touch her, but she is responding the way most white folks are: I didnt think it was that bad. Bobby, from Queer Eye, made a terrific post about what is White privilege (https://www.instagram.com/p/CA1dAI2pWgE/). It was enlightening for me, and the situation in the States these days must have been for her too, especially since the POC around her must be singers and persons that have succeeded and do not represent the vast majority of that community. As for the criticism she is receiving with her recent posts, this is down right BS and wanting to tear her down. The looting video first posted was probably to film how things are going down, that her city is shaken up. She removed it after thinking what message it was sending. The rest has the right tone.

I had this discussion with my BF this morning, as what could be done, after the protests and donations. The leadership in the US must make a stand, but what could they promise that would not only calm down the protesters, but also not seem like total BS to calm down the troops and do nothing afterwards? What would be the next step in repairing 400 years of injustice? What would be the first step towards change?? One step sure is to prosecute after having suspended shady cops, but what could be the next step after that? And with that dumb president in office, responding with force, not understanding anything about anything, representing the white establishment that can get away with anything, I surely don't know what will happen next.
