Norman Fucking Rockwell - Pre-Release Thread

So, Marina collab? First, there was the selfie of the two of them with Jack... Now there's the picture of Larina with Chuck (who will likely produce all videos for this era)... Curious to hear how it turns out. I Thought a Marina collab would have been better on Marina's album... However, I trust Lana to have that song fit on NFR. -

I think you’re absolutely right. I see VB on the second half of the album, maybe towards the end, but surely not as the closer track (maybe as the same place as Heroin). Like you said, that line would be weird to finish a record. I think UV only got 74 because of its message, that was considered almost anti feminist. That would be cool but has any artist got a 90? If she got a 80, that would be an achievement. (In my mind, she deserves a 110) -

VB is a perfect teaser: we want more, we wanna see if the album will go in that direction, it is a very long song full of nuances, that we can appreciate after many listenings. If it had been released with the album, it would have overshadowed the others track of NFR. -

God LFL divided! Hope NFR « unites » us again. Already this album feels timeless. Can’t wait to see the track list and the length of the songs -

With the two songs out we heard, it’s more and more unlikely I think. Maybe a reworked Yosemite has a chance, as long as she feels the scraped songs are « lighter in tone », since this is how she feels working with Jack. She is working and writing non stop and let’s not forget that she loses interest fast when it comes to her old stuff. -

I wouldn't surprised if HIaB went more guitar-driven after the first chorus, like the other two. ABOUT HIaB... I have posted that one earlier on, but I will do it again. The «babies on the tourlyfe» could very much be a reference to LiL Uzi Vert. (source: https://pitchfork.com/news/lana-del-rey-previews-new-song-happiness-is-a-butterfly-listen/ ) Like she is always referencing to other songs or books in her songs. So many of you are so harsh towards that song because of one line heard on a 25-second snippet. Give it a chance... Nobody was expecting VB to be THAT song. Maybe HIaB will have an incredible production, especilally of Jack is involved on that one too. -

She knows how mpatient we are to hear new stuff. With Jack involved, I guess that it’s a longer process (she said he comes to LA like 9 days a month), and she wanted to give us something before the release. Plus these two songs are very « end of summer », perfect for September. And even though we live in a super fast world, ironically, the music industry likes to have longer pre-release periods before the album, with 3-4-5 songs released before it (including singles and promo singles). -

It would make sense, since she said that the song she thinks of maybe putting out in October is more serious. So maybe HIaB or the Sylvia song, if that’s a real song. MAC’s video doesn’t impress me much, but I love the VB one. Very vintage and home-made. And it fits the song as well. -
The rumour on many Lana fan accounts on Insta state that Lana sold her unreleased Wild One song to Ariana (Ariana renamed it Better Off, and it is on Sweetener) It’s probably bullshit since Lana nor Justin Parker are mentioned as songwriters though.

a good choice, but not "old school" enough for a Lana cover IMO. -

I wonder if this new album is about all her exes... MAC is about a guy who said that she was fucked up and sad thouigh she wasn't (many stated it could be Barrie). VB brings back the writer boyfriend seen in UV"s Is This Happiness. The title track is about a guy who is vainly calling himself an artist all the time (could it be about G-Eazy? Don't know the guy, but he seems kinda cocky). Since all her tltle tracks reflect the album and the atmosphere, maybe this is why she chose that track? -

The video is cute. Way better, IMO, than the MAC one. Very vintage and trippy, like the song. -

It was a great decision not to release VB the same week as MAC. The Earth would have imploded. -

The title is amazing. She has always been about Americana, twisted in a modern way. The title embodies that perfectly. Rockwell is the all-American, perfect painter. Like Schultz (the Peanuts comic). She really surprised us this time, with the title of the record. It is so fresh and new. The sound of this album is very interesting. And I have the same feeling listening to MAC and VB as I did listening to Hm and UV : as if I had found a lost vinyl by a fallen California starlet. And the surprise didn't get spoiled by a fucking leak!!!!!!! It was just so magical to listen to it for the first time as it went live. -

Ok, nobody could have guessed that title!!! -
Crimson and clovers!??!?? Love her!!!!!

Having a thought: is Jack God?!?

If it is indeed 10 minute-long, we better prepare for a big outro, something soaring (I have my hopes on the same psych-electric guitars at the end of MAC)

I m with you on that one. If there is a Marina collab, maybe it will be for her album, not Lana's. The music we got so far is very introspective: a collab would feel a bit weird. But hey, maybe we will change our minds when we hear the next single... -
and let's not forget she's an album type of girl. Many songs from her can feel weird or out of place taken alone. But the whole landscape she creates is always magical. Music To Watch Boys To felt weird to me, when we first got it, and Terrence Loves You as well. But on Honeymoon, with the rest of the album: they are just masterpieces. AMEN! Preach!!! I remember the slander for HM, where so many said it was too boring, when it came out. But now, HM is considered heavenly. All the songs I didn't like from her at first always found a way to hit me hard, at the right moment.

Of all the unreleased songs mentioned, Yosemite still has a chance from what we know of it (being laid-back and acoustic). It wouldn't feel out of place with the other two. I am afraid RBFY is being in hibernation, as well as other unreleased gems. I am sure we will get to hear them at some point in our lives, just not in the next year, I think. Maybe she is keeping them in store to have them released when she goes on a break or is busy with a super project (like her musical)? The song I dream of having is The Good Life: the presumed snippet we heard this summer just sent me to Heaven. -

Death By Naivety would be a bit too much. Yosemite could be nice. Divine sounds like a Mariah album. But I don't know either how it could be named. -

We have yet to hear VB in full, but with MAC and the sound of the snippet, am I the only one who is not so much craving for Yosemite anymore? I love acoustic Lana, and BAR sure was incredible, but these two singles are just so lovely and perfect to sing over a camp fire, and I really wanted Yosemite because of its acoustic side. Can’t wait for tomorrow!! -

Venice Bitch would not be a statement enough. Maybe the next single will give us the title of the album. I see MAC and VB as promo singles, very perfect for that time of year, but the sound of the album to come could be a bit different
