Norman Fucking Rockwell - Pre-Release Thread

Every time I see the word "baddie" I automatically think of Lana's IG-wanna-be-famous-influencer friends and I don't see her dancers or Emma Tillman associated with that group. It's an insult to them like the font on this UO cover. -

The picture’s fine though... What was Chuck thinking when she chose that font??? -

I don’t mind the NFR text... but then I do? Lmfao and the LDR part bothers me. The text just looks so misplaced, or maybe it’s just the font... -

Hmm... well there’s the lyric we heard from the NFR snippet, “‘Cause you’re just a man, it’s just what you do. Your head in your hands as you color me blue.” The references to the ocean in MAC, “You’re lost at sea then I’ll command your boat to me again” + “Catch a wave and take in the sweetness. Think about it, the darkness, the deepness. All the things that make me who I am.” In VB she says, “Give me Hallmark. One dream, one life, one lover. Paint me happy in blue”. And those are the first 3 tracks... wow she really made a cohesive tracklist this time... -

I’m also expecting an 8, but he could give it a 7 if things aren’t as great due to the lyrics or he doesn’t vibe with the production on all of the songs. But honestly, I think he’ll give this an even better review than LFL overall. He liked Change and she did say the album was in the same vein as that song, and he did really like MAC. I know people think he’s “trash” and whatnot, but I like his videos. I don’t mind watching people who I disagree with and it’s entertaining seeing him warm up to her music. -

Imagine a film premiere for FIILY + TG? Just like she did for Tropico and Freak? Ugh, I wish. -
I thought about it.... played the songs we have from NFR.... looked at the cover. The excitement wore off from yesterday and I decided that.... yeah, NFR is her best album cover.

Girl, I was gonna put it higher, but then I realized it’s just a SS outtake of her just standing there with snippets of all the songs playing. It’s nostalgia. LOL -

Weren’t they her dancers and Emma Tillman, FJM’s wife? Correct me if I’m wrong, but it looked like her! -

I’m really intrigued to hear Bartender and California. Now I’m sort of lowering my expectations for TNBAR because it was produced by Rick, but maybe it will get the same treatment as Black Beauty as someone else said... and at the very least, it’ll be in higher quality. I really love the album trailer too!!! I’m surprised no one made album trailer rankings yet. lmao Here’s mine: 1) UV 2) NFR 3) LFL 4) H 5) P -

I love it! The higher contrast suits it because you can see the beautiful details better. -

Didn’t Eclipse rant on Twitter about the Shazam thing, the “Love Song” title and how “stupid” LB users are? I wonder if he deleted those tweets, because... -

Thanx for this reference! I honestly wanted her to work with the photographer behind the Paris Match photoshoot because it fits the aesthetic and mood of NFR, and I think Chuck actually did a good job at capturing what the photographer for this shoot did. I also wanted a man with her on the cover, but for him to be turned away so she’s the focus, and god damn dreams actually come true. This honestly made my day and I can’t get over it. lmao Sorry, for my enthusiasm guys. The rollout was shitty, but I’m just taking in the positive at this point. -

I think it could be tbh. It would fit perfectly between HTD and TNBAR. -

I'm usually with the consensus on here, but I have to disagree. The cover suits the lyrics. The comic book font + neon outfit + American flag is a summary of her and this album. She's always been enamored with the past, she's all about Americana, and her kitsch taste (which makes us all cringe at times) is right in your face. The album will literally end with a song with the lyrics... Smiling for miles in pink dresses and high heels on white yachts, But I'm not, baby, I'm not. No I'm not that, I'm not. Hello, it's the most famous woman you know on the iPad Calling from beyond the grave, I just wanna say, "Hi, Dad." Hope is a dangerous thing for a woman like me to have But I have it. Yeah, I have it. She's literally reaching out her hand just as she mentions it in Mariners Apartment Complex (I thought that was obvious lmao), Cali's in the background because for some reason this woman is obsessed with the landscape/history of it. Venice Bitch was inspired by it and she included her cover of Doin' Time which mentions Long Beach? The cities are on fire because you know this woman is into chaos and she's corny like that. The sky's painted and I think that's obvious what that refers to. It's a collage of what this album is about and I love it. I'm also starting to notice the cohesion in the lyrics relistening to the songs and snippets... You fucked me so good, that I almost said "I love you" then she has a song that comes later on the tracklist called, "Fuck It, I Love You!" Going by the titles, she fantasizes about a happy future (How to Disappear), they find solace temporarily {?}(California), then reality sets in and she realizes she can't change him (The Next Best American Record) and are we surprised? I'm ready for the damn album! -

The visible painting strokes, her pose, her facial expression, California on fire, the American flag. The more that I look at it, the more I love it. It has movement and has a story going on. It's really going to vibe well with the songs. -

Same here. I love mixed media and I was secretly hoping she’d be with someone on the cover for NFR. I completely see what you mean about the closing chapter part. Didn’t think about it at first, but it makes sense and I’m so happy she tried something new. Btw I think this is the second cover they shot since I can guess the original Ben or Ed didn’t like was more simple than this. I’m very happy with the cover. -

Wait... what if the “Stronger” snippet was a small part of Yosemite? And the part she sang at the listening party was the chorus it breaks into? I’m sorry, I still can’t get over how she said that song and BAR were “sister” tracks. -

Well... what if I don’t hate the song and I just think they’re poor attempts at ad-libs? lol -

They’re not complaining that she swears too much. They’re criticizing that it’s a bit cringe now because it’s not executed well. The “bitch!” in Cherry sounds more sensual than frustrated. lol It’s a good song, but it’s her attempt at doing ad-libs and slapping trap beats on it because of her current rap influences that doesn’t work for me. People are just worried that the sloppiness in LFL will bleed into NFR. I mean personally, I’m a bit over the words, “blue”, “car”, and “fast” in her lyrics, but I’m open to hearing the songs in full.
