It's just tragically authentic. We're always blabbing on about people now want experiences that are authentic and relatable that they can experience, and there is something really approachable in the way she writes that it makes it so empathetic. I don't know shit about poetry but these really moved me.

My dream is for this to be re-released with Violet poems as intervals between the songs. And 'deluxe' tracks including demos or acoustic versions of How to Disappear, Love Song and Norman. And the BAR demo. Commercially released Lana tracks a guy can dream. -
I am kinda still reeling from this. Kudos to this being properly releasing and not having some random 10 year old leak it #CassetteGirl This just elevates her legitimacy as one of America's greatest artists even higher. I really resisted reading too much or weighing into her poetry before now, but listening to her words and the authenticity in the delivery, I think this is one of her greatest artistic creations . . . maybe the best. Listening to the her speak the words conjures up so many images but the intertextual references to her body of work (and directly to Norman FUCKING Rockwell!) are also clever and considered to the point where it feels familiar. And the stories she tells are heartbreaking, beautiful, hopeful - there are too many good moments to mention but the best of the album is Sports Cruiser, where she earnestly confesses her self-doubt and imposter syndrome before resolving to change. The vulnerability is stunning. That, or the serene horror of Bare Feet on Linoleum, where a cacophony of voices ask questions over and over along with rising, moaning strings and synths - creating a terrifying dimension as Lana speaks over them before joining in as if she's been hypnotised. Awesome. I've totally disregarded Jack's contributions to NFR in the past, but his incidental music took me totally by surprise. I'm sorry. @Jarred is right. His music has huge range, like I said drawing from all kinds of sounds that remind me of Brian Eno's scores to Debussy's pianos. It's the perfect level of pleasant without boarding into obnoxiously inappropriate. Delicate soft electronic wefts that sparkle, soft and lilting pianos, quirky jazz that flows like a radio play - it accentuates Lana's vulnerability, and without it the work would not be the same. I am looking forward to rearranging a playlist of NFR's songs and Violet's poems, which I think would flow amazingly, and definitely allow a bit more variety. I think the scrappy, unpolished vocals on their own would've sounded bizarre but among the well produced sound, it couldn't have been more authentic. I have mocked the process in the past but I'm definitely eating shit now because this was so, so worth it. Lana I'll never question you again I'M SORRY.

You're very welcome, but it's a big group effort!! I am enjoying writing them out as usually I need a few listens to click with lyrics. There are many amazing heartbreaking and heartwarming moments on this. It's my favourite thing she has made as an artist! I think everything is covered now but any other q's let me know.

There is some interesting audio samples that play throughout, and are most present at the start and the end, a couple of men and women overlapping with these kinda things: "I have plenty of witty anecdotes" "Your stories are mesmerising" "I always have the most interesting stories" "I am an interesting person" "People love your stories" "You are a fantastic person" "You have plenty of interesting stories "You are an interesting performer" There are lots of variants - it almost sounds like they're practising Meisner? It gives the work a sort of terrifying dimension - the coolest part is at the end Lana starts to slowly speak along with them, like she's hypnotised.

My Bedroom Is A Sacred Place Now There Are Children At The Foot of My Bed Last year, when I wrote you my last letter, (the beginning of my future poetry), I acknowledged who you really were for the first time. I didn’t call you by any other name, I let you know that I knew the true nature of your heart. That it was evil, and that it convinced me that darkness was real, that the devil is a real devil, and that monsters don’t always know that they’re monsters. But projection is an amazing thing. After you left and burnt the house down, you tried to convince me that it was I who was holding the matches. You told me that I didn’t know who I was, but I do. I love rose gardens. I plant violets every time someone leaves me. I love the great secoys [this is a plant I dunno how to spell sorryyyy] of Yosemite And if you asked me sister to describe the first thing she thinks of when she thinks of me, she would say “Camp fire smoke”. I’m gentle, I’m funny when I’m drunk, But I haven’t been drunk for 14 years. I go on trips with my friends to the beach who don’t know that I’m crazy. I can do that. I can do anything Even leave you. Because my bedroom is a sacred place now that there are children at the end of my bed, telling me stories about the friends that they pretend to hate, that they will make up with later. And there are fresh cut flowers that I grew myself in vases from the yard on nightstands, hand carved by old pals from Big Sir. And the longer I stay here, the more I am sure, that the more I step into becoming a poet, The less I will fall into being with you. The more I step into my poetry, The less I will fall into bed with you.

Holy shit. This is the best project she's ever made. Everyone who said Jack was great, I'm sorry I doubted you. His score has such incredible range, and it totally transforms the work. Land of 100 Fires - if you loved the Hollyweird vibe of the Lust for Life trailer, you're going to love this track. It's old timey, brassy and WITCHY.

Some stories aren’t meant to be sold. Some words aren’t meant to be told. I want to leave them underneath the nightstand to be forgotten or remembered should my thoughts come upon them in the middle of the night after a long beach day. Or by you, some afternoon, to thumb through by your warm after-work hands. I love you, but you don’t understand me. I’m a real poet! My life is my poetry, my love making is my legacy! My thoughts are about nothing, and beautiful, and for free. You see, the things that can’t be bought can’t be evaluated, and that makes them beyond human reach. Untouchable, safe, otherworldy. I think it's 'sax' - she says "I sold my life rights for a big cheque" which (if autobiographical) would be selling out her music for the image of Lana del Rey. Terrance Loves You (and other parts of Honeymoon like Art Deco) has saxophone paired with the line "But I've still got jazz when I've got the blues", maybe signifying that she takes refuge in her love of music (particularly jazz which is so prominent in New York, of which sax is a staple). So by selling her namesake, she now 'can't sleep at night' because she knows fame will end eventually and she can't be wholly authentic anymore. Also, sax then comes in and plays in the next poem she reads. Obviously as I just said I'm not sure if we can take anything as actually her life and we can just wait for the book sooo n e wayyy -

Beautiful poetry - her delivery is quite frenetic and it's almost stream of consciousness which obviously is quite reminiscent of Sylvia Plath. Lots to unpack but as usual it's difficult to discern what is authentic in terms of 'autobiographical'. It's like 'yikes' re: not having a mother, but she obviously has no daughters and hasn't left her ex-husband, so I'm more taking it as the overall feeling I'm getting which is mostly pretty sad.- 132 replies

I just saw Snowpiercer and it was AWESOME. Really original, hot and talented cast (Chris Evans is my celebrity crush), inventive style and frequently quirky and super amusing. Another great Bong Joon-ho film.
