I think I'd probably have a breakdown. I would be seeing therapists it would be that serious.

I guess it would probably be Trash Magic though - it's so relaxing and probably impossible to ever get sick of.

I actually didn't view her as being a prostitute to be honest. I saw it more as she was their "pretty little object" that we stereotypically believe all biker groups to have. The girl that they all had and all loved who they take around with them but genuinely adore. I think what solidified that most for me was the scene with the guy brushing her hair. Brushing someone's hair is typically an affectionate perhaps even paternal sign, neither of which I associate with prostitution.

Out of all the Lana songs, the Blue Jeans bridge is my most anticipated part, "We went out every night, and baby that's alright, I told you that no matter what you do I'd be by your side, Cos' I'm a ride or die, whether you fail or fly, well shit at least you tried. When you walked out the door, a piece of me died, told you I wanted more, that's not what I had in mind, just want it like before, we were dancing all night, then they took you away, stole you out of my life, you just need to remember." It get's me everytime.

Also the bridge of 'This Is What Makes Us Girls' is just stunning too. "They were the only friends I ever had, we got into trouble and when stuff got bad, I got sent away I was waving on the train platform, crying cos I know I'm never coming back."
I must have a thing for bridges because the Backfire bridge is another one of my favorites.

I also love the piano in 'Every Man Gets His Wish', it's definitely on of my favorite elements to the song.

Bridge of National Anthem, "It's a love story for the new age, for the six page, we're on a quick sick rampage. Wining & dining, drinking & driving, excessive buying, overdose and dying."

The opening like to Born To Die, "Feet don't fail me now, take me to the finish line. oh my heart it breaks, every step that I take, but I'm hoping at the gates they'll tell me that you're mine." I also love the orchestra in that song too and the end.

    So many good musical moments!

Okay, I need to organize this by album/demos/unreleased because there are so many songs and so many amazing moments for me.

This is an awesome thread, Sitar, thank you. There are some more moments, but holy shit I've typed a lot and school is almost over so I'll be at rehearsal for a few hours because I'm fabulous and in a play so I'll be back to read all of your interesting responses later, bye. xoxo

When she gets all childish and you can hear her voice break in her iTunes Festival "Million Dollar Man" performance.
  11. Your Girl Lana liked a post in a topic by Poison Ivy in Lana Del Rey Questionary
1: When did you first discover Lana Del Rey - Around a year ago (I think?) when the Born To Die video came out. I used to dislike her for some reason (it often happens that I first dislike artists I end up loving, so I suppose it became a self-fulfilling prophecy at this point).

2: What was the first song that made you fall in love with her music - Well, Born To Die was the first I heard (in the video) and I kept shamefully raping the replay button every time I had the chance because the song was so addicting. Then I got over my 'hate', downloaded the whole album and holy shit I fell for her hard.

3: Favorite Lana hairstyle - BIG, I love her big hairstyles or those slight curls of hers in her more relaxed hairstyles. Oh yes and I like her as a redhead the most, all shades of red worked great.

4: Favorite live performance - I never got into watching her live performances much (I've seen a few, but I want to see her live myself) so I can't really choose.

5: Favorite lyric - THIS IS HARD. "And there's no remedy, for memory, your face is like a melody/ it won't leave my head" but really the whole Dark Paradise is so brilliant lyrically.

6: Would you make out with Lana if you had the chance to? Oh yes. Hard.

7: Favorite facial feature - Well it's not really a facial feature per se, but she looks so amazingly cute when she smiles, she has a very sweet smile so I'll go for this.

8: What's one thing you don't like about Lana? There are some things I morally disagree with a bit, but they're a bit long-winded and it's not necessarily something I don't like about her.

9: Have you ever met Lana? No
10: Who's you favorite artist after Lana? Johnny Cash/The Ronnettes/Amy Winehouse

11: Would you say you're obsessed or just a really big fan? Big fan.

12: What if Lana was secretly an evil zombie would you still love her? 'Course, that'd be two of us.

I think this is an important perspective. Life is complicated, and things don't always line up according to whatever the conventional expectations are at the moment.

that's usually true, but lana herself has said that her music is "100% autobiographical", which of course feeds our speculation. if she didn't throw clues around (and if she weren't so fascinating and hadn't lived such a full life) we wouldn't feel so compelled to try to piece together stories and people and associate them to her lyrics! bear in mind that some theories have been somewhat confirmed, while others are in the air or maybe just fantasies.

I know it was discussed more than a month ago but if you wouldn't mind I'd like to briefly touch on the un-feminist lyrics. As someone who's been in what I now realise were probably unhealthy relationships, albeit exhilarating, I really identify with a lot of what Lana's saying. But just briefly, I in no way mean to diminish or criticise your opinions by saying stuff like "you guys just don't know"; I don't know your lives or your struggles and I'm not prepared to make those judgements so this is merely my experience.

I can see how on the surface a what of her lyrical content seems to be against positive feminist ideals, but when I was in those relationships the power balance felt very natural and like feminism wasn't apart of anything. I was happy to let the men in my life lead me because they made me feel safe and there was a lot of love there. I knew how hard my heart beat for them and I could feel that in them too. For me, to love someone that much in a i-can-hardly-breathe-when-we're-not-together way made me feel so alive. I'm guilty of doing a lot of things I shouldn't have done with them but I was so free. So when they held me a little rough or something similar it didn't matter because it felt like we belonged. I can see why things like that from another perspective may have seemed off and like I was being controlled or smothered but that's not how it felt.

I was going to write a little more but I don't want to just bombard this thread with what is probably not interesting content.

The second verse of Blue Jeans!! 'I stayed up waiting, anticipating and pacing' i LOVE that line!
The whole bridge in National Anthem!
And in Ride, after the bridge when she sings the chorus again, when she says 'i ride fast' she says it differently to every other time and i loooooove it!

Can we do live performances? If so, this:
There are two moments for me. First, when she does the chorus at 2:48 and she's bellowing and it sounds so emotional and you can see it from her voice that it's coming from a very deep place. The second moment is directly after when she sings along to what sounds like could be a saxophone solo. I love that and wish it could be on the album version.

As far as studio material goes, in Every Man Gets His Wish the lines:
I was working down in the corner cafe
You would drive by in the Chevrolet
Whistle at me as my hips go sway
"Lana Del Rey how you get that way?"

I just smile. It's so sweet and classic Lana to me.

Ha, well I think I first heard of Lana on tumblr/gagadaily around a year ago or so and only watched Born To Die with the young tattooed guy who looks like the type typical-tumblr loves and I just kind of associated Lana with the places I first heard of her (which I dislike in terms of their tastes generally). Otherwise, I guess I didn't like the video overall and the 'sk8r boi' guy just added this over-polished hipstery look to it while Ride feels very raw and those men feel very 'real'. Of course, it was my loss to hold that opinion about Lana for a little while - till I fell in love with her music, pretty soon after that - but I'm still not a fan of the BTD video.

tl;dr version: I prefer raunchy old men over pretty boys

Why don’t we go to Coney Island?
One day among, the ballad sung
The record spins blue '50s song
    The veranda looks ocean ???
    Neon palms sway
    What’s happening?
    Where did we go?
The Jersey Shore was long ago
    As with our hopes
    And Ocean Grove
And so I bid you farewell

So I was perched in the tinyleak chat. I had a lot of fun!

gah! the traders were discussing what songs to leak like:
Roses, Making Out, I'm Fucked, Midnight Dancer Girlfriend, and another song with a title like My Best Day (can't really remember for sure)

Another thing of interest was that Lana has another shelved album called Rock Me Stable and songs on the album are being traded around among the community.

One trader was really pissed because he had recently gotten a hold of unreleased songs but they were all leaked during the Holocaust. I told him that he had gotten everything only to lose everything. So now he knows what true freedom is.
