  1. i feel like i need someone to explain the tracklist to me, there's so many different styles on the album it doesn't feel cohesive even though i love most songs individually

I feel like when you listen to LFL on vinyl, it makes much more sense. It’s almost like it’s split into four little “suites” of songs that way. And the way each side opens works so nicely. And where the first disc ends and the second starts feels like the prefect break of act one and act two. Idk I think it flows nicely, especially since similar styled songs are grouped together and the transition between genres isn’t so jarring.

Sorry, I know this belongs in the LFL thread but it felt like the time to say it.

  2. I feel like the way she was feeling while writing The Greatest (and a lot of the songs for this album) could have led to her taking a break earlier this year. Maybe she just wants to balance her music career with enough downtime and everyday life to keep herself from having a breakdown. Maybe she knows she’d never be able to quit for good. Maybe getting enough down time makes her actually excited to get out and perform. I mean, I’d be pretty tired too after the eventful decade she’s had.

  3. after listening to the Greatest again i really think that it's about her quitting?? like "the culture is lit and i had a ball, but i guess i'm burned out after all" and "i miss doing nothing" etc..? i'm scared

Just like with Swan Song, I doubt she’s really going to quit. She seems to not want to be famous really anymore, but she loves writing and creating music so much that I don’t think she’d be able to quit for very long. It’s almost like a cruel joke, having to pick between your art and your life. That’s why Joni Mitchell “quit” after almost every album just to return in no time with another. Some people are just born to create music and can’t stop even though they’re tired of the business and fame.

  4. I’m glad when Lana and Jack finally worked together, we didn’t end up with Lana over the typical 80s synths n stuff that people usually associate with Jack’s production. Tbh I originally expected something kind of like Bruce Springsteen’s 80s albums when I heard Lana and Jack would be working together. Instead they did something different from what either of them usually do and it’s so raw and honest.

(I just kinda wish Taylor Swift or Lorde would do an album more like this with him)

  5. if lana could collab with any other musical artist working today, who would you want it to be and why? i personally think she should work with Tyler, the Creator because he's my second favorite artist next to Lana and they're already friends or at least acquainted. plus their styles are very different but definitely have a little overlap in my opinion.

Father John Misty! They would mesh so well together on a song and I’m kinda surprised they haven’t done one yet. They both have that similar retro but modern vibe and have very conversational tones to their voices.

And even though I’ll probably get lots of hate for this, I’d also really like Lana to collab with Taylor Swift someday. They’re probably the best songwriters of our generation. Just imagine the song they’d write together.

  6. From the descriptions, I’m so excited for not only Bartender, but Happiness is a Butterfly. Those seem to be the most different and polarizing so far so I can’t wait to have my own opinion on them.

Tbh I feel like the wait over this past year was relatively easy to get through but these past few days since the leak make everyday last a hundred years. This week and a half is gonna take forever to go by.

  7. hold up? Are you talking about the standard double vinyl, or just the big boxset with Ultraviolence written in black? Because that double coloured vinyl sounds cheap AF

All UV editions are double vinyl. I am only familiar with the standard (black), the UO edition, and the deluxe. Idk about the picture disc one in the boxset. Both the black and the UO are the standard and will play on anything. The deluxe (bonus tracks & gatefold) won’t play on cheap record players without skipping. I’m not sure which one you’re referring to, but the deluxe sounds the best and the UO sounds the worst.

Sorry about being so off-topic. Anyone can dm me about the different vinyls and their qualities if we want to continue this and I can try to help the best I can.

  8. on the topic of uv - does anybody else's record skip on brooklyn baby? mine was brand new when i got it and it skipped on my first play ):

You need either a new stylus or to rebalance the arm, or if you have a shitty record player, you need to throw it out the window and buy a decent one. UV deluxe is a very high quality vinyl that won’t play properly on shitty record players. When I got mine, I thought it was defective and bought another and it was even worse. What a waste of money. When I finally got a decent record player though, no skips at all. I’ve read similar stories from other people about the UV deluxe vinyl too. The standard edition should play fine though on any player though and that’s cheaper to buy than a new record player.

  9. wonder what the physical edition discs will look like.

BTD had the red roses, Paradise black with the trippy rose, UV hydrangeas, Honeymoon flag and blue sky, and LFL basic ass red. I know the LDR site version is lime green, but I wonder if regular physical copies will have a picture.

Edit: wait, I don’t see the disc being green on the site...just the vinyl and cassette. Maybe it will be a picture?

It’ll probably be the album cover because the center label on the vinyl seems to be and it’s always been the same as the CD in the past.

  10. It’s so disappointing the album leaked. I know it always happens, but it still must hurt for Lana. I’m glad I have no interest in hearing the album in shit quality. I hope it doesn’t leak in high quality (I still won’t listen). I’ve been reading the lyrics though and imagining to myself what they’ll sound like, which is exciting! Luckily I can’t remember most of the sound clips we got. But based on the lyrics to Bartender, I’m even more excited to hear it. Still my most anticipated song.

  11. Ladies what songs are we most and least excited for? I want to hear opinions :hooker:

I’m most excited for Bartender. I have the clip of it stuck in my head all the time. And idk what I’m least excited for. I go through moments craving each song at different times, so there’s no songs I’m not looking forward to. Maybe Cinnamon Girl or Happiness is a Butterfly since we’ve heard more from those than the others, but I’m still super excited for them.

I’m so excited for every song that I’m kind of relieved we’ve been slowly getting more pieces of the album before it’s here, so it should be less overwhelming the first listen.

  12. a friendly reminder:

she promoted Yosemite almost in every single magazine at that time :creep:

Mentioning Yosemite in every interview is different than doing a whole magazine issue about her poetry book. She didn’t do a fucking magazine issue revolving around Yosemite lmao. You guys also used Yosemite as a reason why the whole album was scrapped and look how that turned out. The book is coming eventually whether you like it or not...

  13. Of course, a leak is never what the artist wants and I did not mean to encourage them (although I guess at this point I would be hungry enough for this album to instantly listen to one).

I just think that at this point it would not be the worst thing that could happen to her because the whole album is already wrapped up and finished, close to it's release and unlike for smaller artists the financial damage a leak would do would probably not be too harmful for Lana.

I didn’t mean to direct my whole post at you, sorry. I was agreeing with you that a leak wouldn’t hurt her sales. It would be much worse for a smaller artist for sure since they might not have a fanbase willing to buy the physical album either way. I was just adding that sales aren’t the part that matters with a leak specifically for Lana. It’s more about her having control over when and how her art enters the world. I think a leak would mostly just be harmful for her peace of mind and motivation. After keeping the album from leaking all this time, it would mostly just be disappointing for it to leak early, especially with less than three weeks left. But it’ll probably happen anyway though, it always does.

  14. Lana owns AKA. She would just owe royalties.

Yeah and Stevie Nicks owns Buckingham Nicks too. It doesn’t make a difference.. Owning doesn’t necessarily mean no permissions are required anymore. Most people involved in making it still would be involved in reissuing it. They just can’t rerelease it without Lana’s permission. There’s a lot more factors to reissuing music than just owning the publishing.

  15. Almost all albums leak nowadays. Lana is a huge artist with an obsessed - I mean loyal fanbase. A leak may be a bummer for her but it won't hurt her sales, charting whatever.

Sales aren’t the part that matters about a leak. I’m sure Lana’s not too concerned with any drops in sales either. She knows people begging for leaks and listening to them are also buying a bunch of copies. It’s about respect and consent. She deserves to release her art on her own terms, especially with her clearly trying to avoid leaks at all costs this round.

  16. After all the effort Lana put in to keep the album under lock and key for the year, I really hope the album doesn’t leak. Imagine making sure your album is safe for the first time ever and it still getting out. I can’t imagine the toll it takes on Lana with each album cycle knowing your fans don’t even respect you enough to let you have a proper album release on your own terms. I’m actually really proud of her for being able to avoid leaks this round and imagine how happy she’d be if this time it really doesn’t leak. I just can’t imagine wanting to ruin someone’s hard work like that, even out of impatience or spite or anything. I just really hope she’s able to have a regular album cycle without leaks this one time.

  17. You need all kinds of permissions to reissue an album or even to put it up on streaming services because other people were involved. Even if she wanted to (don’t know whether she’d want to or not), she can’t just make the choice on her own. It’s illegal.

For example, Stevie Nicks’ first album, Buckingham Nicks, hasn’t been reissued since 1975 and isn’t on streaming services despite her loving the album. Stevie Nicks and Keith Olson (their producer) have been interested in rereleasing it for decades but not everyone involved does, thus it’s been in limbo.

So I imagine Lana could be in a similar situation.
