People are entitled not to like this song or this sound for Lana. I personally find the song to be beautiful as it is, love the production, love the use of the different instruments, the sound effects and the intro. But acting like it's her best opener? It's giving recency bias. Ask again in three to six months and you'll have a different feedback in the post-release and "Unpopular Lana opinions" threads.

I find The Grants to have a beautiful and meticulous instrumentation, and the lyrics are beautiful, yet very personal as well, I wouldn't have changed anything about it honestly--but as an opener it's not quite hitting the note for me. It's a great song, but a whelming opener. I find that it flows very well knowing the title track follows, so in that sense, the song's order is logical, but I like it when albums start with a bang. Knowing Lana has the habit of putting the title track on the first or second spot, makes things difficult cause the two tracks are a pair. On a different note, I think the intro is cute and quirky.

I don't necessarily agree with your ranking (the Ride erasure?), but I think that while The Grants is a great song, with an unusual, yet interesting intro, and it has a beautiful instrumentation--I don't think it's her most impressive opening track. It doesn't affect me as much as Cruel World, Ride or White Dress. However, I think it really sets the tone for the title track that follows.

If she ever does a BBC Live lounge session again at some point, I pray that the sound engineer does his fucking job this time around
