Billboard speculates how UV's unusual aesthetic & its success will influence pop music.

"With a No. 1 debut coming, expect more brooding, rock experimentation and mystique from mainstream music's biggest stars:"

At first I found her vocals in Pretty When You Cry to be really badly done, but after a second listen I realized that maybe it was meant to sound raw and broken like that. And now I love the vulnerability. I don't know why Sad Girl is sort of underrated so far (at least from what I've observed) It's one of my favorites from her.

I think Frances had the right to state her opinion regarding things she has perceived Lana has said about glamourizing death, but I do not think Lana meant any harm. Frances seems to have acknowledged that. She clearly did not attack Lana. She simply wanted to state her piece. Nothing wrong with that.

He also used to be in a band called Gods and monsters I read somewhere that he and Jimmy Gnecco were friends, thought that was shocking. I'd have to find the receipts though.

I think they both handled it very well, and it should be done now.

Frances didn't seem angry and wasn't lashing out. She just stated how she feels about it.

Lana was asked in a interview explicitly about cobain and amy, she responded that she admired their talents and personalities.
When asked about her own feelings, she was talking about dead. And again, I think Lana views dead different then most people.

I think in her replies she makes it clear that to her, it are almost 2 different topics.

I dunno, I think there is a difference between glamourizing death and having a different relationship with dead then most people do, as in fear of dying.
Lana fits the second part. She doesn't seem afraid of it, more like it is another life.
If that makes any sence at all

I so feel you, happened to me with half of Born This Way
But maybe you'll listen to the track in 2 years and find out that you actually kind of dig it now, that's what happened to me

Does anyone have any idea as to when Lana will begin touring from the UV tracklisting? I know that she performs a song or two from the new album during the present tour, but I want to know if she will be dedicating a full tour to only songs from UV.

Brooklyn Baby - I just think that would be an awesome opener. West Coast Gods and Monsters Money, Power, Glory National Anthem Carmen Young and Beautiful Old Money Ride Cruel World Shades of Cool Sad Girl Pretty When You Cry Video Games Ultraviolence Black Beauty Summertime Sadness Blue Jeans Fucked My Way Up To The Top In my head it tells a story. She is a young aspiring artist (BB) who travels to the west coast (WC) to pursue a career. Once there, she finds out how cruel and unforgiving the music industry is (G&M) but begins her ascent (MPG). Once at the top, she sees it might not be all it is made out to be (NA and Carmen). She finds love (YB) that doesn't really last (OM) and runs away elsewhere (Ride). She forgets her old man (CW) and meets a new man (SOC) and becomes his side girl (SG). He lets her down too (PWYC) despite her undying love (VG). She sees their relationship break down (UV and BB) and then he, like the first, is gone as well (SS). She reflects on her past relationship (BJ) and decides she will love the man forever, like she said in UV. And I put FMWUTT last just because that would be such a funny last impression to leave on the audience. FMWUTT could also go elsewhere in my sequence, like between MPG and NA and still fit my story well. If that were the case, I'd say end the show with Yayo because that would make an awesome closing song.

I realize my story might be dumb but I like it

I don't know, I'd love to see UV completely live since it's recorded with a live band. I bet the entire sounds beautiful live.

She's also made a point to stand up for Lana in the press since Day One.

    From 2012, Vanity Fair:

SM: I’m looking at what’s happened with Lana Del Rey, and I feel sympathy for her. That kind of venom is what I attracted when we first came out. Everyone called me a fake even though I’d been in bands for a decade—everybody was really on our back. We weren’t “real,” whatever that fucking meant.
What’s the driving force behind the Lana backlash? Is it just because she’s good looking?
SM: She’s beautiful. She’s really talented. She’s the real deal, and I think that’s threatening to people. She clearly has an aesthetic and clearly has worked hard before she got to this point in her career. She has a past? God forbid, they lambasted her for having a musical past. It’s good she’s failed and she had the wherewithal to try again. Shouldn’t we be applauding her for that?

I agree with you. I was so excited for the track because I assumed it would have the same opening lines and melody. There was something so ethereal and ominous about the whole "Let the light in...It's a cruel, cruel wooo-oorlddd." Just the way Lana sung it and moaned those "Ohs" in succession, it made my skin crawl with delight. When I heard the actual track, I was surprised and a bit disappointed as well. Thankfully, "Cruel World" is still one of my favorite songs from the new album.

This album sounds very much like Garbage. Not so much the vocals, only sometimes, but the production is very much like a Garbage ballad or slow song(West Coast and Ultraviolence), more so from the Bleed Like Me album.

Dan wasn't involved in the writing. I think this was originally the opening on the song
    It would sound so cool.

    Let the light shine in
    It's a cruel, cruel world
Shared my body and my mind with you...

I think maybe as the track is almost 7 mins anyway Lana compromised the intro for adding a guitar outro
  20. prostitutestare liked a post in a topic by letthelightin in Cruel World Live Snippet
This intro has been on my mind since I first heard it on YT and at her concert. I think its so beautiful, I was looking forward to Cruel World so so much from this. Seriously, I was convinced from that little tidbit alone that it would be my new favorite Lana song. I was very disappointed when it wasn't on the album, but the fact that she is still singing it at concerts gives me hope that it'll be in some song or another of hers in the future. Maybe we'll know when she starts performing UV songs at concerts if it was supposed to be at the beginning of Cruel World (because she'll sing it that way) or if its a whole thing on its own. I'd say that Cruel World is likely to be the new opening song when she tours for UV as well.

I;m glad UV is weeding all the BTD lovers out o the picture. I love BTD, prob still prefer it to UV in a way [we'll see over time though], but UV is an essential artistic and musical transition for her that has revealed the artist she really wants to be. I'm invested in her as an act who can shift and grow, i don;t care to compare or expect BTD ever again to her future work.

What I am loving about the contents of this album is that I can see these songs being sung by Lana many years into the future. They have great replay value and will stand the test of time. You can tell that while, sure, creative license was  used to create many of the stories on the album, there is a certain genuine nature, an authenticity...these songs are close to Lana.
