Just wanting to see if there are any other Courtney Love/Hole fans on here. I'm a bigger fan of Ms. Love than I am of Lana even, but I've been listening to Hole for far longer. When I found out they were touring together I thought I was hallucinating— just seemed too good to be true. I am ecstatic to get to see them in one show. It's a weird pairing, but a perfect one.

For those of you who aren't familiar with her (many of you are young and probably aren't), this is what you're getting yourself into with Courtney Love:

Pretty on the Inside is a macabre masterpiece. I love that record.

Live Through This is much more accessible, and the softer side that she shows on that album splays my heart open. "Doll Parts" can make me teary-eyed on the right occasion.

I love everything that she's ever released to be honest, even her 2004 solo record which, while not great by her standards, is a lot better than most other crap.

So I was at the Seattle show yesterday on the 27th, and I thought I'd share my experience just to give other people some insight into what they are really getting themselves into at these shows.

We showed up at 6am outside the venue and there were already a few people waiting. By 8am, there was a full line that had formed, and the venue staff gave us raffle tickets for being the early birds that guaranteed us first entry into the show, which was really nice. I was in a group of four— myself, my brother, my friend, and my brother's girlfriend. We hung out all day at the show and would leave in groups of two for food and bathroom breaks. By 10am there was a line around the building, and by noon they had herded the line into winding gates, and later formed more lines on the opposite side of the venue doors. By the afternoon it was a zoo there, and one lady told me about an hour or so before the doors opened that the line on our side had extended into three levels of the parking garage across the street. There were A LOT of people there.

As far as the tickets went, myself, my brother and his girlfriend all had will-call through Adventures in Wonderland, and my friend had gotten hers through the Ticketmaster presale. The staff kept telling everybody it was a paperless event and that you needed your credit card only to get inside, but they failed to acknowledge the fact that a lot of us had the AIW tickets which were made available to us around 2pm at the box office. Anyway, the AIW tickets were totally valid. Our line got first entry as promised when the doors opened at 6:30pm, and everyone of course ran to the stage against the staff's command. My friend had a hurt knee so we walked as fast as we could and were still able to get a spot up against the barricade. About 20 minutes later we were given the okay to stand, and then shit really got insane. My brother and I secured spots at the barricade and had the two girls in front of us with our arms extended around them so that they wouldn't get crushed against the barricade.

I'm going to be honest here— the majority of the crowd was extremely rude. "Feral teenage girls" is the only way I can describe it. Fortunately my brother and I are both over 6 feet tall and weight 200 pounds each, so we were able to hold our ground, but it was a nonstop struggle from the time we stood until the end of the show. It honestly was the worst during the opening act— SO much pushing and shoving. There was a group of girls behind me who were physically assaulting me the entire show— hitting me, pinching my ribcage, kicking the backs of my knees, scratching me, pulling at my hair— it was ridiculous. One girl who looked like she was sixteen told me she was going to stab me if I didn't move. I of course didn't move, and she of course didn't stab me. One girl poured water on me. My point is, people are INSANE at these shows. My friend in Chicago warned me about it and I took her warning lightly, but now that I experienced the show, I cannot imagine being under 5'5" and lasting long on the floor. There were at least 20 girls who I saw get pulled over the barricade and taken out by security; some of them were stone cold passed out, and at one point during the show, cops came in and were arresting people.

The large group of girls behind me who were attacking me the whole time did not seem to understand that I was physically pressed against a metal fence with a 5 foot tall person in front of me whom I was trying to protect from getting crushed— they still thought they were entitled and should have been allowed to be where I was standing. Before Lana came on, after the opening act, a security guard told all the guys in the front (myself included) to put our arms out against the bar on the barricade and push our bodies back to keep the girls in front of us safe, which I had to do multiple times throughout the show, and every time I did it all of the girls behind me screamed and acted like I was abusing them. Several of them tried to tell the security to kick us out for pushing back against them, but there was literally no other option— these girls did not seem to understand that our bodies were up against steel and that we were NOT going to move any further. One girl gave me a lot of trouble (the one who was pinching my rib cage) and she kept wedging her arm in-between mine and the guy's next to me on the barricade, and I told her repeatedly to get her arm out because when a pushing wave came she was going to end up with a broken arm, but she refused to listen to me.

Luckily, I had a really nice Australian guy to my right who was protecting his girlfriend against the barricade, and to the right of us was a French female college student from Paris who was super friendly and had seen Lana before in Paris last year. I felt bad for her because she was against the barricade as well and people were pushing on her the entire time and she was fighting back.

Honestly though, the crowds— mainly teenage girls in flower crowns— need to CHILL out. I waited in line for 14 hours and we EARNED our spot against that barricade. Honestly I felt like 80% of the crowd were a bunch of spoiled high school girls who had gotten tickets through their parents, and they had absolutely no respect for anybody and were horribly entitled. One girl who was attacking me informed me she "knew more of Lana's songs than I did," and that I shouldn't even have been there— goes to show the maturity level/age group of these girls. I'm glad I was able to give them a wake-up call that they can't always get their way, especially when they are going to try to cheat their way to the front and threaten and hurt people to do so. As I said, I had the benefit of being a big guy who could easily handle their attempts at destabilizing me, but it was disturbing how aggressive and pissed off they were. When the show ended, the security guard near us came up to the barricade and gave me a thumbs up and told me I did the right thing by pushing back and holding my ground to protect my friend in front of me, and all of the girls who had spent three and a half hours mauling me scoffed and were appalled. It was a nice affirmation.

As far as Lana's show goes, it was of course incredible. She came down to the barricade and took pictures with fans midway through the set, but stopped and turned around literally FEET before us unfortunately. I got some great photos though and did my best to enjoy the music.

But, yeah, the show was as insane as I was warned it would be. Worse than punk shows. I've seen Hole live before and the crowd was tamer than this. What it comes down to is that the majority of the crowd was immature, selfish, and incredibly mean-spirited. Beware of that. Unless of course you ARE one of these people, in which case all I have to say to you is: GROW UP.

Also: make sure you are hydrated and have eaten something, even if it's light. A lot of these girls were passing out as I said and many of them were pulled over the barricade because they couldn't handle it. One of my friends from college was there on the opposite side with three of her friends, and she told me that two of her friends collapsed one had a panic attack and had to be taken out. I guess my point is, yes, these shows ARE as crazy as people are saying they are, and this is coming from a 23 year old male who has gone to multiple punk and rock shows before and been in moshpits. BE PREPARED PLEASE.

Bahaha, we were super close to one another. I remember the African American girl in line too, she saw my brother smoking and came up to us and asked for a light. The drag guy was definitely punk rock, but before the show he got into a full getup with makeup, lipstick, and a flower crown. I remember him having his friend do some of his makeup before the show.

Inside the venue, I remember there being an Australian guy with his girlfriend to my left, and then to the right of my brother and his girlfriend was this really cool girl from France who I talked to for awhile; she had seen Lana in Paris, and was living in Missoula (Montana) where she was going to school, and she had ridden a bus from there to Seattle to go to the show. She and I were getting vocally agitated with the people behind us, and there was a guy who kept ogling her from behind and she got pissed. The Australian guy and his girlfriend to my left were nice, but once I started getting ambushed by the group of girls behind me, I got really angry and was cursing up a storm and I think I might have scared them because they didn't talk to me after that. Lol.

Omg the whole security/crowd issue was so annoying, and the girls behind me were such brats. I was just like, "Look girls, I'm 23 years old— I paid for my own ticket, the gas to get here, and for my hotel room, AND I waited for 12 hours to be in the front, so no, I'm not moving for you. Sorry." They went mad though after that and were smacking and kicking me throughout the show, and whenever I'd push back they would throw a fit and act like I was abusing them, and then have the audacity to ask me to "be kind" to them. Lol. At one point they asked for security to kick us out, but the security knew the situation because one of the guys came up to me at one point and was like "Just be the bigger person, man," meanwhile as they were clawing at my back and trying to kick my knees out.

So the Australian guy wasn't her boyfriend? I just assumed because they seemed like a couple to me— in fact, I think I saw them kissing in line earlier in the day— but I don't always have the greatest gaydar so I could have been wrong(??) They both were nice but I think I made them uncomfortable because I was NOT being nice to the people behind me. Haha, oh well. It was just a high adrenaline situation. I would've been totally cool if those girls had been a bit more cooperative with me, but they just wouldn't give it up with the kicking, pinching, and slapping and whatnot.

The crowds are ridiculous. I expect it to be crazier at a large concert, however the whole thing isn't GA this time so who knows what will change. She might not even come down as per security's request because that's a lot of people to fight off. If she did you'd have like 3 secs with her to take a pic and not even talk to her. Honestly just wait until the tour kicks off in over 5 months and we have accounts from people who went because as of right now you're as clueless as we are.

Are you kidding me?! She stayed there? It's right across the street from the WaMu theater... nice place. They have a Silver Cloud here in NW Portland too but I've never been there. The Seattle one had a rooftop pool and all kinds of stuff. I had a friend who was there with some of her other friends too and she stayed there as well. I can't believe Lana was in the same hotel as me and I didn't even know it!?

Yeah, no VIP for me, not worth the money considering I already had the front row experience in Seattle. It's worth doing but it was exhausting and the people around me were really rude and pissed off because I was in the front and they weren't. I didn't give a fuck though, especially considering I waited in line outside for twelve hours— we earned the front row, and there was no talking rational with these girls. I tried to reason with them a few times and was like "Look, I know you want to be able to see her, but my body is pressed against steel with the force of 5,000 people behind me, and there is no way in hell I'm moving even if I wanted to."
I got really mad though a few times because some of them were constantly doing stuff trying to hurt me and get me to move. It was one of the only times in my life where I've actually been truly grateful for being a male with tall stature, cause there was no way anyone was moving me.

Courtney's my favorite songwriter of all time. Honestly, I think she's the best thing since sliced bread. She marches to the beat of her own drum and doesn't get her detractors the time of day, which I really admire. She's one of the most overly criticized people in the music industry (undeservedly so IMO), and I believe Lana sees that, and also sees how strong and fascinating of a figure she is.

Yes sir! I live in Portland so I'm glad I don't have to travel to Seattle this time. I stayed at the Silver Cloud across the street last time which was cool, but it's nice to not have to drive two and a half hours. I've seen Courtney/Hole twice and have had to go to Seattle for both those shows as well (she usually skips Portland, I think because she used to live here and has a long history with the city and some of the people here).

What seats did you end up getting? I got the standard tickets for $91 each, three of them. I had Ticketmaster automatically choose the best available seats, and when it spat section 103, row V at me, I wasn't going to risk refreshing the page in favor of something better, so I took it. I'm a bit confused though because I was looking at it tonight on Ticketmaster and saw some seats in my section and others that are still "for sale" at $325 each, and they claim to be VIP seats but they are in the rows BEHIND mine. I don't really get that.

That's the problem, is that people still think she's the same as she was 20 years ago. In 1994-95 during her band's world tour I don't think she was onstage sober even once. Not to excuse it, but it's somewhat understandable given that Kurt had just died. But yeah, she was on heroin and God knows what else then. She got sober when she started making movies in '96, and seemed to be fine until 2004 when she got in a shitload of trouble and was doing crack, but that ended about seven or eight years ago now. She's for all intents and purposes "clean," and I believe it shows.

Yeah, but I think you're paying more than you have to if you just bought during the presale. Like I said, independent sellers on Stubhub want $1,000 for lawn tickets at my venue, which are as far away from the stage as you can possibly get. That is absolutely insane.

Other thing is, Stubhub will have tickets available long after the shows sell out, so it'll always be there if you need to find a ticket in the next six months— sure, you'll be paying a lot, but people will still be selling them on there until the show date. The actual Ticketmaster & Live Nation sales are only going to last so long before they sell out. I'd rather try to get my tickets in the official presale. Stubhub to me is something that you should resort to using if the venue's box office is sold out and you have no other options.
