Of course it's not for kids, it's for EdGy tumblr folk in their teens. It was cute at the beginning of the CryBaby era but the concept aged like milk and the way she is still fully sticking to the little-girlie metaphore is creepy in a bad way. And the albums production aswell as her vocals sound basic and uninspired af aswell.

I don't know ... an iconic, trailblazing and innovative band vs. a random mediocre altpop gurl that is about to release the second cOnCePt-album using little-children-metaphors for mental illness and sexuality.

4 years and she just uses the same kind of metaphors and songwriting. Paired with the lifeless and uninspired production of the album, that really shows she just tried to reproduced CryBaby and forced a concept. Not something worth a 4 year long wait. Haha, insulting someone out of nowhere because you don't share their opinion on a piece of music. This shows who's the dumb one here. Pathetic. Ooh crybaby (a concept that has really aged like milk during its first era) is in school by now. Soooo deep, it's really beyond me.

"Class Fight", "Teachers' Pet", "Detention", "Nurse's Office", "The Principal" ... "Lunch Box Friends" ... She's still stuck with the extremely literal children-based metaphors? talking about a lack of artistic development.

I love what she did with Jack on NFR but I'm not sure if I'm happy that WHF will probably be another Jack-album. I think the collaboration with different producers always brought out the best of her (see Ultraviolence) and I'd love her to move on to someone else.

So, after listening a few times I have to say that this record is deftinitly one of my favs from her. It reallymade me fall in love with her music agan. I was kinda over her, because my music taste had eveolved into a pretty different direction ever since ~ 2015 and Lust For Life was a big disappointment. Even though it has some of my favourite tracks from her, the messy album as a whole, with stuff like the terrible Shrieknd-Collab, the Coachella disaster, the faux-deep politicals songs etc. really made me think I was over her. I only casually listened to some f her songs, sometimes out of nostalgia, sometimes as a sort of guilty pleasure. But NFR really draw me back into her art. It's such a well crafted album! Fuck It I Love You really became my favourite track of the album. When it was released together with The greatest, I instantly loved TG and thought of FIILY as a cute, nice-to-have-song. The week before the album release was a week where I had some days off in between university stuff and plans-with-friends and I spent the last hot days of the german summer at the public swimming pool in my town. I often went there alone, swimming, reading, listening to music - and within this atmosphere FIILY really clicked with me. The surfer vibe, the summery feeling contrasting the introspective, melancholic lyrics ... I really adore this song by now. (Funny enough I link Heroin to a quite similar period in my life, during the summer of 2017) California is definitly a very epic track, something you can only listen to when you're in the right mood because it's so ... dominant. But the lyrics are really powerful and moving. The "even though we aren't in contact anymore, I'll still have your back when you need me" motif is something rarely found in Lanas music, which makes this track even more touching. Happiness is a butterfly was the song I was the least excited for - I disliked the snippets she posted on IG, especially the ones of the verses. However, listening to the full track with all its parts in their right context ... it became one of my top 3 songs from the album. The intro line "Do you want me or do you not?" already deeply moves me and I love the way the song floats between sadness, hope, anger and a kind of romantic atmosphere. Bartender is a very interesting song aswell. At first glance, it seems like Old Moneys little sister - less oldschool-glamour but kind of the same simple elegance. But then you notice the underlying anxiety, the "rush" within the songs clamness ... You can envision driving through the night with the fast passing neon lights blurring to some kind of scary pulse. It's a very special track indeed! I really don't mind How To Disappears final production. Yes, it kind of takes away from her vocal deivery and the wonderful storytelling within the lyrics, but the whole weirdness of it and the sentimental kitsch somehow elevates it onto another degree of quality. MAC and VB grew on me alot, I can finally accept the (inferior) new lyrics to TNBAR and I got this slight on-off-realtionship with Doin Time, where sometimes I think it's a lot of fun and sometimes its existence within the album's tracklist irritates me. I still stand by the thought that releasing HIADT as a single was a bad idea since it kind of took away A LOT of the effect the song would have had as an album closer if it was still some sort of suprise during the first listen. It's such a heavy, impactful song that you are often tempted to skip it when you know what's coming for you.

Whew .... 1. Honeymoon 2. Norman fucking Rockwell 3. Born To Die 4. Cruel World 5. Ride 6. Love
-
So, do we know which versions of the physical album include the alternative mix? The german edition?
-
Not really happy about this announcement as it means basicaly nothing. If she ACTUALLY plans to suprise drop it during the next year it would have been cooler as a "full suprise", her speaking about it on NFR!'s release date kind of feels unfair towards this stellar new album that would be in need of the spotlight right now.

Her double-single realeses where so on point though .. Releasing MAC and VB as the first songs was perfect because it really set the mood and introduced us to the new style of the record. Both were kind of weird and not the classic-Lana-material you'd expect. And FIILY/ The greatest was a SUPERB hype-up for the album - both songs are incredibly good and while The greatest is pretty classic Lana-material, playing in the league of her best songs, FIILY is a stellar song that really NEEDS some room to breath and bloom in order to be appreciated. If it wouldn't have been a single I guess I wouldn't have payed it the attention it deserves if I would have listened to it in the context of the full-album-release for the first time. The only bad single was HIADTFAWLMTH-BIHI because a) it's not single material and b) it really kind of spoiled the experience of hearing it as the album closer. The power that could have had ... now you know what to expect and even though it still is a very special song, the full effect it can have as a closer is kind of underminded by the early release. I think it would have been a better idea to release Love song, HIAB or Norman fucking Rockwell as a third single. Pretty happy she DID NOT release Cinnamon Girl as a single though, because it really feels like the center piece of the album and is strong enough to fully shine with all those other new excitings songs around. Having it early would have kind of weakened it just the way HIADT lost a lot of it's effect because of the single release.

A suprise release ... god, this will be the worst 15 months wait ever because every two months some gay will come up with "insider information" or some other reason why they think it will drop THIS TURESDAY. And then there will be the "BUT SHE SAID IT WILL DROP WITHIN THE NEXT 12 MONTHS" outburst ... and then it won't come out until at least 15 months after her announcement.

I really really really really disliked the snippets she shared of HIAB and it was the song I was the least excited for HOWEVER listening to the HQ leak, I really love the track now. The songwriting is still lackluster but hearing every part of the song in the context of the full thing just sounds so ... right. I love the producion and her vocal delivery is pretty good ("Do you want me or doooo yoooou nooooooot. IIIIIIII heard one thiiiin, now I'm hearing another") -
Venice Bitch could have easily been a 6:05 song. Until that point the song actually develops and grows but everything after that just feels like it's going on for the sake of it.
-
This song reminds me a bit of Old Money - it does not habe the same oldschool classiness but it's got a similar simple elegance.

Well .. the video has nice visuals but .. .that's it. I like how she chose the surfer scenes for FIILY and took the boat/ bar scenes for the Greatest but ... ugh. Like I expected it's cut in the most anticlimatic way ever. Pretty pic after pretty pic, but not taking th flow of the scong into consideration. It's ok with FIILY but a song as dramatic as The Greatest would have deserved something better. I LOOOOVE the fake surfing scenes and the muscle dude (while being over the top) is suuuuper hot. -
What a twisted definition of racism. You don't habe to habe black buddies to not be a racist and you don't have to mention how great Nina Simone is in order to be allowed to critisice Kanye Wests support of Donald Trump (a rwcist, btw). Black idiots are just as much idiots as white idiots. I don't like the name dropping but you are trying to hard to make an issue out of nothing here.

It's far too flat to be a trip hop beat. It's just ... a beat. -
Double Video for ‘Fuck It I Love You’ & ‘The Greatest’ - OUT NOW
Thunder Revenant replied to Elle's topic in New Releases
I'm a bit worried that they will have the usual LDR- music video problem: beautiful footage but cut in the most anticlimatic way possible. The preview already seems like it ... we get a super dramatic part of the song and the scenes just get stitched together randomly, not really going along with the climax of the chorus. Lana smiling and throwing darts while the most dramatic part of the song plays, wild cuts that have no connection to the flow of the track ... I really hope it's just the preview -
This track has this slight vibe of Fiona Apple during her Extraordinary Machine era. It's a great opener and title track. However, I feel that it ends too soon. The second chorus should have been just the same as the first one, then some sort of bridge (even if just an instrumental one) and then the last chorus with the extended outro.
