    MARINA (and The Diamonds)

she needs to release an international electra heart 10th anniversary edition with buy the stars, sex yeah, living dead, lonely hearts club, radioactive, evol, electra heart, maybe even just desserts, and some unreleased tracks if we're lucky such as scab and plaster, miss y and jealousy, let alone acoustic versions of radioactive, starring role and lies; these are the highlights of her career and they show her vocal and emotional strength at their best. and who cares if some tracks don't fit the electra heart story concept (like miss y), i mean, it's just a reedition of her most iconic era for her fans. if she misses such an amazing opportunity i have no words left.

so they broke up, wbk. i'm sure this news is kinda late, which is fine. i hope they're both okay and she's ready to release new material. i wonder what flowers is about? maybe it's just an intro or something?

Well I'm trying to appreciate the album now, especially its sonical diversity. The lyrics are still dumb unfortunately but I like what Marina tried to do. A song about racism, about healing after being hurt, a song about finding peace within self, a love anthem, love ballads, go fuck yourself songs... so many to choose from, actually. If it were cut to 10 or 12 decent tracks, named differently, and packed in something more interesting to look at than this minimalistic black&white portrait, I'm sure this album wouldn't receive such hatred. And she should've never said this album was "her best". Don't know what she was thinking.

Weird, she's yet to finish the rest of the album, but it doesn't mean she shouldn't release a second single, right?

This doesn't even pretend not to be fake lmao.

i know, but there was absolutely zero promotion. she always promotes at least one single. l+f focused on orange trees, froot had i'm a ruin premiered on a radio.

Well definitely it wasn't a lead single, that's why her team didn't care about it charting. Interesting what she has in store... just deliver it already girl.

The Family Jewels is flawless and nothing shall be replaced. That's that on that. If anything, more tracks could have been added.

Arcadia or something like this would be an excellent title. At this point, however, I am not even sure if she's not gonna abandon the whole album whatsoever.

I don't think they're friends or anything, probably just a Libra thing, she might relate a lot to what she wrote in the poetry book I guess. That's what she did on Twitter already.

I adore the fact that with her new manager we get decent artworks for a stripped version or remixes. Jess could never. Using L+F album cover for absolutely everything besides HH single.

While I love Froot, I don't know if it is the best song to be lip synced to. Oh No! has big potential too.
  15. I suppose it's fan favourite, so let me say Old Money is pretty boring to me. And I really like the underrated Guns and Roses, it's so relaxing and the bridge is beautiful ugh.

How can Marina be such a talented producer? Those FROOT demos sound amazing. They're so reminiscent of Mermaid vs sailor and it's truly spectacular, after all those years. I know we're all gonna die when Froot demo comes out.

the promotion of TFJ was really insane especially given how quirky and little commercial the album was. it's no wonder she was disappointed with a lack of fame in the states just because of a different label issues.

The instrumentalisation of Gold is just weird to many people's ears. I also find it hard to enjoy the song.

I reckon FROOT would perform much, much better should it have been promoted properly. Marina handled the single choices herself and didn't care about the chart performance at all, at least that's what she said at the very beginning of the campaign. Was there even any commercial made for FROOT? Because marketing strategy of both TFJ and EH was quite big.

What I meant was that the lyrics are less complicated and more straightfoward, not that it's a bad thing. Besides, choruses from FROOT: yeah ahaa oohoo yeaah yeaaah ahha. blueee gimme gimme gimme! forget forgeeeet forgeeet. weeeeeeds like weeeeds.

I understand your point of view, but "the world sucks and here's why" is 100% better than "hey, enjoy your life"; I guess that is why she got such hatred for L+F from her diehard fans -- such lyrics are completely cringeworthy and remind us of stupid psychologists who think that adding a positive post on social media would actually help somebody. If you stay cool, you'd probably enjoy your life, but she, as an artist who got recognition mostly thanks to the gay fanbase who's known to consist of social depressed outsiders, should rethink her message. And To be Human/Life is strange was "the world sucks but I don't know why", so it wasn't better either. I agree that Marina needs to be pushed sometimes, and truthfully the times when she was depressed and perfectionist, although wasn't good for her mental health, it was the time when she delivered the best. I know there is a misconception that being unhappy means being a better artist, and Marina has really criticised this idea and I agree with her -- some of her songs PROVE that she is capable of producing awesome tunes being happy (like, Froot the song -- one of the most amazing songs of hers, if not the best, actually), although it is the whole album that feels rather weaker compared to her previous records (EH/TFJ). I really like FROOT the album, but one can notice that the lyrics were much simpler (Forget, Blue, I'm a Ruin, etc.) and devoid of any metaphors known from TFJ, which I don't mind personally, but it is just a thing that can be easily noticed in comparison. The thing that I'm bugged about is that there are too many filler songs like Weeds or You (L+F) that are neither lyrically nor sonically spectacular. I wish Marina the best and she just needs to learn to strike a balance in her artistry. For me, Man's World shows that she might've achieved that, but the time will tell.

In EH she/her team clearly wanted radio-friendly tracks, that's why we got Radioactive, Primadonna, Lies, HTBAH and P&C, even though Homewrecker, Bubblegum Bitch or Teen Idle and all other ballads are absolutely amazing and they shape the record much better.
