Honeymoon - Pre-Release and Discussion Thread

Fucking yes. And DSOTM is a prime example of how you don't need a linear story or any kind of real visuals for it to be conceptual. As I said pages back, because of albums like Cry Baby and EH, lots of people who like this genre of music are desensitized to what a concept album is because those two are so overblown. Ultraviolence absolutely is, I had no idea it was even up for debate. The track list basically tells a story for crying out loud, as much of one as Cry Baby but Lana just didn't spell it out exactly for us like Mel did. In fact if Melanie had not told the story on her own I would have never picked it up by myself with just the lyrics alone without using a bit of imagination. Conversely, not all albums with a central sound are conceptual. Pure Heroine is cohesive but not conceptual, there is no central topic. Born to Die is not conceptual for the same reason. -

I don't know, the tracklist still just sounds like a really bad fake one to me, I'm having a hard time wrapping my head around what these songs might possibly sound like. To me, the titles are just so passive somehow that if I hadn't heard HBTB I'd think the whole album was full of Honeymoons. So in a way I'm not anticipating not liking one because I have literally no clue. Honestly though I love that its so unpredictable. I'm ready to be pleasantly shocked. -
See I feel the exact opposite about TS and Lorde. To me there is no connection at all between Lorde and Lana besides Lorde saying one time in an interview that she didn't like the supposed ideas and messages behind Lana's songs. I don't think Pure Heroine sounds like BTD at all, period, at any part. No similar visuals, no similar topic they wrote about, PH doesn't even have any strings in it, it literally just has beats like most other pop albums? I guess I also just don't want to think Lana would write something like that about/towards a teen :/ (not that its much better otherwise) With TS there's Wildest Dreams, the Style video (but that came after UV), Jamie King, and obviously the Ride video thing. I remember Lana said she had found her video soulmate with Mandler but never used him again after the IKYWT mess. Why? I just feel like Lana has way many more reasons to dislike TS than Lorde. But I don't know what she thinks. Realistically she probably doesn't like either of them since they are best friends and the song is about one or the other. Hopefully this doesn't come across as aggressive. You know I you, just see it different. I'd really love to hear in a lot more detail why you think its Lorde and not TS! Because I don't get the Lorde comparisons at all lol. Oh but I do agree that the "fucked my way up to the top" is Lana singing about herself. I see it as a "look bitch, I was willing to do this and am willing to do anything to stay on top so back up, this is my field".

I'm excited for all of them because none of the titles sound like anything I'd expect from Lana except Honeymoon and Religion. I'm most excited for Misic to Watxh Boys To, followed by Freak. -
That was so brief and said really nothing? I really feel like Melanie is like Lana in 2012; everyone hates her for no real reason despite her music being pretty true to herself and good. People act like if you get super popular off your debut album you are some inauthentic piece of trash, its ridiculous.

Clearly some kind of troll. Moving on... Obviously we don't know about the music yet but visually I can see why she said HM is kind of goig back to BTD. The photos in the box set kind of are what I'd imagine BTD would have been if done by Neil. I love the return of the vintage hipster look. I think the photos set the mood of the album already for what we've heard so far. -
Y'all saying you don't like the studio versions because the live is better If the studio versions were better people would complain she can't sing live. Poor girl can't win.

@@SitarHero I think I saved around $30 changing to the UK store for all three. But then again I'm probably going to get it super late but oh well. I'm not changing it again at this point.

Is it still cheaper to order from UK even with shipping if you are in the US? I just ordered the box set, UO vinyl, and regular vinyl form elsewhere and wondering if I should change it

Guys, don't mistake people saying BTD is their least favorite as saying its bad or they hate it. I still love the singles and like I said in my other post I occasionally listen to and am brought back lots of memories from the rest. I still consider it one of my favorite albums and really the one that started my passion and love for music. I just don't get that excited to hear it which is not really unusual for an album I've been listening to for 3 years straight, and even then I still go through phases every now and then where I'll like hearing it. Its stuck with me much, much longer than any other entire album ever has and probably ever will. I can't speak for everyone but I think people here posting that its their least favorite probably feel the same way. Its not bad, its just we decided we liked the others more. I just preordered the box set, vinyl, and UO vinyl I'm curious to know if anything unreleased is going to be on there. I know none of the titles immediately jump out at us, but no one would have suspected Old Money to me a reworked Methampheatimes. Which reminds me, why are people thinking Salvatore is related to Backfire? Never mind I just realized that's the first word of the song Not one I listen to often. I still don't think its related. -
Honestly that's how I've interpreted why they did the video the way they did so I, personally, don't think you are reaching too far. I just wish they could have somehow worked out a point of view that would have given off both vibes while being consistent. That might have been impossible though.
-
I hate saying this because I defended the video before it was even out but I wasn't crazy for it. I personally didn't like the shaky camera. The thing that bothered me the most is that the beginning scenes and ending were not shaky and the middle was. If they had picked one or the other it wouldn't be so bothersome and combined with the fact that the steady scenes were what both snippets were, I was not really expecting something that looked so homemade. The lip syncing is bad too, you can barely see it right before the first chorus. I know it sounds so picky and you all are right that most people probably don't care, but I just think its the little details that made good videos great and show that the artist and whomever was on the video team actually put thought and effort into the execution. Now, I don't get why anyone would possibly call this boring. She runs around a lot and literally shoots down a helicopter with a gigantic gun so I don't really get any of that particular criticism for it. Also, the colors in it were very nice and consistent and obviously the helicopter by the window scene was amazing too.

I honestly love Honeymoon so far. I wasn't sold when we just had HM but with the other two I'm liking it a lot. I'm really excited to get it on vinyl. It does sound a lot more mature and less pop overall. I'm used to the cover now I guess. Not fond of that HM font but I get the overall feel she was going with it and I think it fits, especially after seeing what the physical releases will look like. I don't know why you all are going nuts over the UO vinyl cover, its obviously more graphically pleasing than the main one but the photo itself is not some stellar shot at all. I love TLY. I don't think we've gotten a song as emotive as that in a long time, and certainly not a moment like the "major tom" part which is absolutely breathtaking. My only thoughts are wondering why she chose it for a promotional single as its so slow and we already have HM (which is not included with the pre-order for some reason?). I know she can't play all her cards at once with the upbeat stuff, but I'm so curious about the rest if these three songs are what she's chosen to represent the album and try and get interest so far. TLY just seems so heavy for a promo single. Finally, as someone else has said earlier, its so nice to see her revealing all of the small details and being so proud of the album. I haven't tried the hotline and probably won't but this is probably more effort put into this album than she's done for the rest combined so that's really neat and encouraging. Why the Paradise hate? Personally that's one of my favorites. I guess I'm in the small minority that loves Cola and the Paradise version of Yayo. Bel-Air is heavenly too. I've come to accept that BTD really is my least favorite as I never really get in the mood to listen to it besides the singles. Its a nice trip down memory lane with the album songs but I never get an urge to listen to any of the album tracks. -

In the future if you all don't want shit leaking don't tell people its out there or even suggest it might be out there; it causes it to spread even faster because people will actively look for it if they think they can find it somewhere. This exact thing happened with I'm A Ruin and the Froot album with Marina because people accidentally found stuff online and went and told everyone (even without being detailed at all) so more and more people found it too. -

Okay but how did they get the billboard picture in that quality to make that album cover? I'm so far beyond putting anything past Lana in terms of the cover, song titles, etc. I don't try and understand anymore I just appreciate when I get something and trust I'll love it because musically she hasn't let me down majorly yet. -
That's awesome, I'm glad she's doing so well.
-
Is my iTunes stuck or is Cry Baby still in the top 10 albums?
-
I can't find tickets anywhere though I knew I should have gotten some a few weeks ago but of course as soon as I really start to like her they are gone. I feel like the opposite. Sippy Cup, to me, has the least baby imagery and seems like its somewhere on the outskirts of her fantasy land, almost in reality.
-
My highlights: Pacify Her - I love the way she sings "she's getting on my nerves" and maybe I just only listen to like 5 artists but I don't ever really hear songs where the other woman scorns the girlfriend so I thought the perspective was interesting. Play Date - I go nuts with that pre chorus (even though to me its the same melody as the second verse of AYS by MATD and i frequently sing those lyrics over it) I think the chorus is pretty awful but the rest makes up for it. I don't get why she rhymes a word with itself so many times in this album though. Alphabet Boy - "fuck your degree" love it Tag You're It - fucked up but so catchy and I like the wolf parts. So damn weird but so much fun to listen to. Milk and Cookies was the biggest disappointment to me. It sounded so promising but it had a weak chorus and the urgency to it just came off weird to me. Not a fan of Mad Hatter. I feel like today in 2015 you can't write about Alice in Wonderland without it coming across as cringey and cliche. Its so overused, as is the "I'm so fucking crazy" thing. I preordered the picture disc and am SO excited to get it. I went looking for the CD today and Barnes and Nobel didn't have it but said they could get it by the end of the week. I might try Best Buy next but if its not there I'm just going to order it online I think.

I love how twitter accounts are saying things like "the tracklist is coming soon" to sound like they have some kind of inside info. The album is coming in a month, duh the tracklist is coming soon. Not even trying to read the 50 pages I missed I'd get behind Ultraviolence being a concept album. Its not as immediately noticeable as EH or Crybaby but those albums are so overblown and have such heavy visuals associated with them that they've probably made people a little desensitized to what a concept album is. UV does tell a story and has pretty interlinked themes and that's literally what a concept album is. Don't know about the songs being meaningless without each other as most of them are fine on their own but saying UV is just a collection of songs that have zero to do with one another is kind of crazy. -
mar-tin-ehz vs mar-teen-ehz i'm from the south She comes across as so genuine in interviews, it makes me really like her more. I'm so excited to hear Crybaby but I'm too lazy to look for a download and I'll get it in a few days anyways.
-
Just started watching interviews and realized I've been pronouncing her last name wrong awk. Her speaking voice is so different from what I imagined. And fuck @ her being sold out in Atlanta.
-
A few were, and I suppose I took the "I bet the clips won't even be in the video" the wrong way. And I'd be up for a more humorous video too though I'm just having such a hard time imagining Lana to not be serious.
-
Good grief you guys have no faith in her. Did she not just drop an amazing single on us and seems to actually be promoting it? I'm sure the video will be amazing. I think she still has an eye for aesthetics and seems to really be visually focused on the album so far. I'm already trying to imagine her singing HBTB live.
