The Right Person Will Stay - Pre-Release Thread (OUT: May 21st, 2025)
barttttender replied to Elle's topic in New Releases
Me neither. Look at how great Birds of a Feather did. Made no difference. Also, Lana's been pretty bad with choosing singles ever since NFR, so maybe it's better that way. When I say bad at choosing singles, I mean that her non-single tracks are doing better (Cinnamon Girl, Let the Light In, Margaret, Dealer, Cherry, etc.) -

Yeah; maybe she's doing what billie did last year with hmhas. Also, if Henry is as soft and acoustic as it sounds, there's no point having it as a single imo -

Can we please please stop manifesting "somber" vibes for this record? Somber: having or conveying a feeling of deep seriousness and sadness. Did you all not have enough of seriousness on sadness on the last two-three records?! Lmao If so, please go stream Nectar of the Gods, Fingertips, Cherry Blossom, For Free,Judah Smith Interlude, Jon Batiste Interlude, Texbook, Wildfire Wildflower, Candy Necklace, Kintsugi, Yosemite, etc. -

Sorry but that's just whack. Rick Nowels co-wrote and produced some of Lana's biggest songs (e.g. Summertime Sadness, Young and Beautiful, Love). Even his throwaway cut (Say Yes to Heaven) is a massive hit a decade years later. I mean, this is the guy who wrote so many hits including a quarter of Madonna's Ray of Light. You don't just go ahead and dis Rick... As much as I love Antonoff x LDR, Jack has yet to produce a single entry into Billboard 100 for Lana. The only song that charted with his production credit on it was Tough, and he wasn't even the main producer. So, if anything - Lana's fading more with Jack at the helm than rick. Ask a person on the street what Lana song they know, and it ain't gonna be Mariner's Apartment Complex or A&W. I'll tell you that. Again, no hate towards Jack, but what you said just ain't right. -

Fyi, i'm tots fine with country. I always was. I loved the idea of LDR tackling a new genre (like btd was pop, uv was rock, nfr was surf rock...). And I always liked Tough and its country themes and influences. #LassoForever The thing I *don't* want is this stripped back/sobre vibe everyone's talkin' about. Which doesn't sound like Lana nor country to me. It just sounds like Chemtrails 2.0. or, more so, BB 2.0. That is what I *don't* want. Sounds super boring to me. -

I"m not hating on you, but I'm hoping for the opposite of somber. Hear me out: we already have a stripped-back acoustic masterpiece (Chemtrails). And Blue Banisters wasn't far off. So, we kinda already have an album (or two) full of somber guitar songs such as Nectar of the Gods, Living Legend, Cherry Blossom, Yosemite. And Ultraviolence wasn't exactly a pop record. It was guitar. It was somber. I don't think Lana should repeat herself sonically. And if she does, I hope she rips off Lust for Life (Fenway) rather than the second half of BB. Also, with Die with a Smile, Beyonce, Chappel Roan and other big country-infused guitar songs dominating the industry, a stripped-back album would fall off the radar as soon as it drops. So, I'm hoping The Right Person Will stay is bigger in production, more melodic, and catchy. More American and Ride in spirit than Nectar of the Gods and Living Legend. Somber is the last adjective I want to use to describe this record. I'm ready for some fun! -

Most likely not. Wishful thinking. But who knows -

Maybe. But thematically, production wise and genre wise, it wasn't that far off her previous records. I love OB but don't consider it a landmark record like I do BTD and NFR. -

Me too. Born to Die was huge for her, then followed by three albums. Then, Norman was huge for her, critically, and marked a turning point in her career, followed by three albums. I feel like it's time for this one to be a turning point of sorts. And this (excruciating) delay points to that. -

I mean, one month before the announced album release date? I should fucking hope so. But again, it's really obvious at this point that the album is not coming out in May. More like September if even then. So even if a single drops in April, which I doubt, don't be surprised it's only a taste of an album that's still in the making. First single: April/May for Stagecoach, second single July/August. Album September. -
None. She should cover no more songs. She's done like 50 covers, it's enough. Unless it's a Doin' Time type a thing and she makes it completely her own and it becomes a bit hit for her. Original songwriting pretty please. 🧁

We'll never know how hard it is for her in terms of paps and being in the public eye. She was stalked, bullied, she wrote entire songs about running away from publicity (13 Beaches, Bartender). That being said, there's no need to drag a fan down publicly and mock them for the "I promise" line. Not when you yourself lie to your fans pretty much every time you open your mouth.- 168 replies

If I was that fan, I'd be like: Lana, I love you - but when the fuck is the new album coming out? Give me something, anything, and I'll buy you 50 cherry-flavored vapes now -

I mean, it's quite the forgettable cover, so no big deal. Choose a cover, go down to the studio, bang it out in 2 hours, go home, then cash the check. That's what it sounds like. I hope TRPWS sounds nothing like that. -
Right now: 1. Norman Fucking Rockwell 2. Born to Die 3. Lust for Life 4. Did You Know that there's a Tunnel Under Ocean Boulevard 5. Ultraviolence 6. Honeymoon 7. Chemtrails Over the Country Club 8. Paradise 9. Blue Banisters 10. AKA Lizzy Grant

I second this. The song is legit garbage. Sounds AI generated to me. Or a Shania Twain leftover from the 90s. Most of all, it completely lacks identity. I think Chappel needs to stop mixing up genres until she gets a firm grasp on who she is as a pop girly. Even Kylie couldn't pull off country properly 30 years into her career. It's not something you just try on for size.

Gurl, she said she was working on an album for FIVE YEARS. She could not have raised expectations higher for this project from the get-go. She should have kept it quiet until she was done. The classsiest thing would have been saying "I'm working on a new album, thanks for asking. You'll hear it when I'm done, whatever that day might be," and then just shut up about it. Not given two different faux dates and two different single promises. Her/Interscope's PR team really need to have a word with her. -

She said the album will come in Sept - it didn't. She said a "few songs" will come before Stagecoach, which is a month away - they ain't. Let's no kid ourselves that there's any vinyl pressing goin' on. May 21st is not happenin' -
all of it! The music, the skits, absolutely slay (and i'm not even a gaga fan)

That's my top pick for single too. I'm imagining a high budget Tim Burton-directed aerobics video complete with black and white stripes, Wednesday-like moves, A Jenna Ortega cameo, and monsters. Really like Killa too. She killed it on SNL. It's such a bonkers track.

234 days since her last single (Tough). 720 days since her last album (OB). I mean, Lana come on. -

the most convincing imaginary tracklist yet. But track 04 gives it away (too similar to for k, part 2, or whatever that old song was called)
