I'm not hoping for that, nor did I imply I did. Don't appreciate your tone, either. -
Lana Del Rey and Quavo “Tough” - OUT NOW!
barttttender replied to rocknrollgroupie's topic in New Releases
Tough outstreams Summer Bummer on Spotify. Tomorrow, it'll overtake Old Money, officially making it into top 50 LDR tracks. https://kworb.net/spotify/artist/00FQb4jTyendYWaN8pK0wa_songs.html Still generating 380K, more than Radio, Doin' Time, Ultraviolence, Summertime Remix, National Anthem, etc. For all of you out there calling Tough a 'flop'. -

100%. By the sound of it, it'll be her slowest first single ever, even slower than LMLYLAW. I like the song, but there was a time in her career when this would have been unimaginable (West Coast, High by the Beach). I was hoping she'll start the new era with a swooping, BIG song like Ride, West Coast, or even OB. Or heaven forbid a bop. Which is why a part of me is hoping Tough is actually the first single off the record, because it would be her first commercially successful lead single since Love, seven years ago. Not so incidentally, Lust for Life was the last album she had on Billboard #1. From then, she went to 3, 2, 8 and 3. An artist need a big single for the hype... But then again, Lana clearly has zero fucks to give for how her sales/charts perform, as do her fans. So, Henry it is! Hopefully, it doesn't end up being mega slow and minimalist like "Now all those who wander are lost" or "Looking for America" because that would bring us to another 8th spot (Blue Banisters), or even lower. And yes, I know commercial success is not that important. But also, singles are there for a purpose... Just look at what West Coast and Love did for those records. -

I for one love to cry while watching a good movie or listening to music. LDR song that made me cry, that I remember: Tomorrow Never Came I just thought the lyrics are so fucking moving. I waited for you In the spot you said to wait In the city, on the park bench In the middle of the pourin' rain 'Cause I adored you I just wanted things to be the same You said to meet me up there tomorrow But tomorrow never came -

A theory: he did a lot of work on the country album over the years, using benjos and diving into the country aesthetics. But then Lana decided to move away from that direction. Then he had to jump on another project (Kendrick Lamar?), and she rejigged it with Zach and other minor producers. So, he just doesn't care as much before or doesn't think it's as "brilliant." That's why he said "let's move off that topic" the last time he was asked. -
lucky you! Better than the northman, and the lighthouse? Because those really annoyed me in a lot of ways. i last saw Wicked (9/10), and Conclave (7.5/10). The first exceeded my expectations, the second is like an airport page turner.

Well, she said it was coming in September. And then promised two singles. It's not like we made it up. -
Fine China is very soft. It wouldn't have fit UV at all. That's why she scrapped it. Now why on Earth it wasn't added on BB is another one of the :"great lana mysteries." Certainly as good if not better than Cherry Blossom and Living Legend.

Again, I strongly believe she's just not ready, and posted that announcement solely to keep us interested. Also, because she had promised an album this year, and a few more singles before the end of the year, so she's trying to atone. But she's not really planning to drop anything this year. She will most certainly change the cover, maybe even the title, when the record is actually ready. Which is more likely to be next summer, with how slow the whole thing is moving or, rather, not moving. For me, it's best to just forget that she's even posted anything. Expect a random single release in May next year, with the album in July or fall. -

Exactly. And it garnered 19 million views there. For comparison with her last MVs: Candy Necklace: 4.9m Lost at Sea: 2.1m Blue Banisters: 7.3m Arcadia: 10m Summertime Gershwin: 4.8m White Dress: 13m LMLYLAW: 8.7m Basically, Chemtrails is the only MV off her last three records that did better than Tough on YouTube, and y'all call this a flop. Just stop. -

Right??? Like, hate the track all you want, honestly. No problem at all! Loathe it. But the constant criticism of this single based on "poor performance" and "flopping" automatically discretis anyone who says so.. We're lucky Tough got Lana back on the radio and the Billboard hot 100 when none of her last three records did. NONE. Not one single charted. Tough has certainly fulfilled its purpose for this year, and like it or not, it did really well as far as LDR singles go. It's still doing 366,000 streams on Spotify daily, which is two times more than Snow on the Beach, three times more than what OB and AW are doing, and ten times more than The Grants. Also, 13 times more than Arcadia. Meanwhile, Blue Banisters (the single) is getting a measly 23,000 streams per day, and White Dress even less, which means Tough is doing about 16 times better. So, again, diss Tough all you want. But if you're calling that track a flop, what does that make her other singles this decade? Get real. -

How was Tough a flop song? It charted both higher and longer than SYTH, Love, and High by the Beach. In fact, it's her 5th longest charting single on Billboard hot 100 of all time. It's also outstreamed 150 songs of her discography, including the BB and OB singles, and it's already reached the top 50 most streamed LDR songs of all time on Spotify. I wish people who dislike Tough would stop presenting it as a flop just because they dislike it. -

we're not getting anything any time soon guys. "Lasso album coming in september" Then "no idea where lasso is going" Then "Songs coming before end of year" Then crickets Then "the right person will stay album coming may next year" then no label confirmation with a random made up release date Then ""Songs coming before april next year".... one of the songs being the same song she's teased a year ago, now as the lead single, coming full circle Lana is clearly talking shit, and she's in her uninspired era -

henry sounded all right no doubt. But i do hope it goes more interesting places than the minimal acoustic. Maybe a shift into trap like AW or a full-blown orchestra. if not, then it's kinda like if "not all those who wander are lost" as the first single of chemtrails. -
Courtney Love says that Lana Del Rey is her dream collaboration

I mean that cover was so bad that I'm kinda glad Courtney called her out on it. -

I'd rather 13 good songs than 16 with two interludes or a lame-ass cover (For Free) that I'll be skipping forever. But it's likely that this has 13, one of it being Country Roads snooze fest. So yeah Chemtrails 2.0 vibes. -

She probably realized "oh shit, first i announced lasso, then i said i'll drop two singles.... But i actually haven't got anything!" *opens PicsArt and types the first words that popped into her head, i.e. the right one will stay "There, that'll keep the kids happy until i figure out wtf this record is supposed to be" *queue delulu fans thinking it's the real deal -

Well, for starters, they've been repurposed a gazillion times. Mostly by folks going through trauma and pain, or those encouraging others to pick themselves up and move on. The very context of these statements implies self-healing, recovery, regaining balance, etc. Most of all, they're cliched statements. So, for me, this territory is more self-help isle in a bookshop, rather than any psychology corner with actual insights. But that's just my opinion. We don't have to agree on this, you know? It's just my opinion. -

I feel completely the opposite. Self-analysis for commercial use doesn't appeal to me at all. She also sounds like some sad, miserable girl on Twitter. "The right person will stay." ""Real love doesn’t make you question your worth."" "Healing starts with acceptance." "The universe has a plan; trust it." "If they wanted to, they would." These vibes aren't growth at all imo. Lana's never sounded more like a basic b to me. Hopefully, the album doesn't sound like a musical equivalent of a Pumpkin Spice Latte.
